    Hi Sameer,
    Happened to read a notification that Kellog has waived off GMAT scores as an application criteria in the current COVID scenario. What is your judgement on the fact that will not having a GMAT be bottleneck in the future, when it would come to recruitment?
    Look forward on hearing your thoughts.

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As you might know, some top consulting and Ibanking companies ask for GMAT scores to filter out candidates. And schools like Kellogg act as feeder programs to those industries. But in line with the fact that the program has proactively waived off the requirement, recruiters may also start looking at other factors in case of those who don't have a GMAT score. They don't want to lose out on the talent pool. In the worst case, you could take the test as an MBA student, if they are still insisting on it.

    ....
    so does that mean i need to have studied mathematics in grade 12?
    i want to study bba in ireland
    i am a indian student with PCB (physics, chemistry biology) as my Main subjects in grade 12 i studied mathematics in 11 but left it in grade 12 .
    so even if i havenot studied mathematics in 12 can i still get admission in universities of Dublin.

    Hello Sir,
    I am a engineer officer in merchant navy. I want to know whether having a different major in engineering (marine engineering) will be favourable for admissions in MBA colleges because unlike other engineering streams I don't have any desk job experience since most of my work is practical oriented.
    And will it be enough to have a sailing period of 15-18 months as work experience??

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We help several merchant navy applicants get into top bschools each year. But all of them have had more experience than you do. While the underrepresented field can help you stand out, there are other challenges that you'll have to tackle. Mostly on the post-MBA career goals. Our advice - take it slow and don't apply too prematurely.

      Going abroad for higher studies will always carry the work permit risk. There are some international student friendly countries like Canada that are popular, since they make it easy to get work permits. What'll happen in the post Corona scenario is anybody's guess for now.

  • @smitdesai425

    So Sameer, I will be totally transparent about my case. I was supposed to graduate last year doing Bcom from Mithibai, but unfortunately, I managed to get myself KTs in some subjects and the other subjects which I passed in have pretty low grades. I will try to give my best in the subjects in which I have to reappear and probably by January or February of the next year, I will be done with my graduation but with a poor grade or GPA overall.
    And since last year I have set a goal for myself to take place in one of the top B schools in the world but with a low cost as well. So after a long research, I found the University of St. Gallen. It's SIM (Strategy and International Management) program is the one where my mind is set now. So I would like your valuable advice and expertise on this

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Such situations are always tough to handle, specially when you're aiming for the elite programs. The biggest hurdle is eligibility, as some programs may specifically mention their minimum academic criteria. For that reason, before you start the application process, it's best to connect directly with the admissions team of your target program, share your profile details and ask them if they'd encourage you to apply. If they do, then put in your best in every component that's still under your control.

      Tough to predict how it'll all unfold. Take the call based on your personal outlook and the level of risk you're comfortable with. Some are waiting and watching. Others are going ahead, since they expect to graduate 1-2 years later, when (hopefully) the situation wouldn't be as bad. The silver lining is that it could become a little easier to get into better programs, given the current situation.

    Hi Sameer,
    I have been interested in exploring the Kellogg one year program. Considering that they have waived off the GMAT score requirement for round 3, I have the following questions:
    1. Do you think, it makes sense to apply to a college in US at this point in time
    2. Looking at my profile, what do you think are my chances of getting through a Kellogg one year without GMAT
    3. My entire career has been in Marketing, currently, I work in Brand Marketing for Flipkart. I plan to continue in Brand Marketing post my MBA. Do you think if I get through a 1-year Kellogg, it will add significant value to my resume considering I have almost 8 yrs of work exp. out of which 6 yrs are core marketing?
    Awaiting your response.

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If this is a last minute decision, it won't be a good idea. Always better to apply to programs where you've done in-depth research and validated the value as well as fit.
      Some thoughts on your goal:
      - Client facing marketing roles are tougher to come by for international students.
      - Branding is very culture dependent. Think about if/how your current experience translates to another geography.

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bschools don't put an upper limit, but it would be in your interest to find out the challenges of going in as an 'outlier' student in terms of age and experience. All good programs will ask for a GMAT or GRE score.

      It's always tougher for freshers with no experience to get a job while competing with locals. MBA grads have an advantage since they already have several years of experience that recruiters can use. England has more opportunities than Ireland.

    Hello Sameer, hope you are doing good.
    I have applied for master's in Trinity College Dublin and have got an admit. It's one year course, due to pandemic, there's been some rumours that some of these courses may go online. Which defeats the purpose of going abroad, learning the job market, getting exposure and awareness. Isn't it kinda skeptical to join, if it's online?

    With the recent Corona outbreak, I suddenly found a lot of free time in my hands. I started prepping for GMAT two weeks ago and took the first practice test and scored 730 with just two weeks of prep. I hope with few months of hard work I can get much higher. • @MBACrystalBall

      Don't look at just the averages, since they hide more than they reveal. The average at many bschools get skewed because of the high salaries of MBA grads who get into the bulge bracket investment banks or the elite consulting firms. Ireland isn't considered to a top destination for those jobs.

      @@MBACrystalBall Actually I have an offer for MIM from UCD and most of their graduates work as Business Analyst or Management Consulting Analyst and have salaries around €25000 which I think is too less considering their Tuition is around €20,000 and cost of living is also very high.
      Is this a pretty Bad ROI do u think?

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pranaygawas709 Can't comment on RoI since that would depend on how much you're spending to get the degree, whether you've got any scholarship, living costs, your best-vs-worst case scenario etc. Other than the industry/role, there's also the PPP angle to consider. A McKinsey consultant working in USA, India and Ireland will have significantly different salaries. Plus there's also a difference in the salaries for MiM vs MBA grads, with MBAs getting a substantially better deal.

      Interesting analogy about birds!

      Regardless of what works for birds, in humans delivery before time isn't considered a good thing, unless we're talking about logistics companies.
      When it comes to higher ed, a change of perspective will be helpful. If you stop looking at an MBA as an end in itself, you'll find more meaning to what you're currently doing.
      If you've enjoyed working in the sales domain, there's no reason to switch tracks just for diversification. Having 5 years of experience in one domain works better than 1 year each in 5 roles.

    Hi Sameer and Team, hope you guys are doing well!
    I'm planning to pursue MBA from one of the top 25 bschools
    I have ~5yrs of work-ex( ~1 yr in software company, ~3 yrs in startup and ~1 in consulting). Now, searching for a job after consulting stint. Is it the right time for me to pursue MBA, given the no. of job switch I've made. Also, which is the right exam to prepare for, GRE or GMAT?
    I'm not IIT/NIT grad

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Last year would've been an ideal time to apply if you're targetting 2-year MBA programs in USA, from a statistical fit point of view. The job switching does make it tougher to connect the dots. Here are some thoughts on that: www.mbacrystalball.com/blog/2018/09/24/explain-frequent-job-switching-mba/
      If you don't have a preference for GRE or GMAT, go with GMAT.

    Hi @Sameer Kamat, I would want your valuable suggestion- so I have 5.5 years of experience in IT Sector as a Software Tester and I am planning for MBA In Project Management from Dublin Business School, Ireland ( you did not mention this college in your video) . So what are your thoughts on this , is the college good and will it be worth opting for an MBA after 5 years of experience in IT. How will the job prospect be after an year I.e around 2022 end in Ireland wrt MBA in Project Management.

      We aren't aware of anyone who attended that program, since most applicants working with us target higher ranking and more selective programs. So there isn't much first hand information to share. Try getting in touch with current students to find out the ground realities.

    I wish to know how the COVID19 pandemic would impact the job placements at B-Schools. Is it right time to do MBA if getting a decent employment post-MBA is top priority? I have gotten an admission in Ted Rogers school of managment's MBA in management of technology and innovation program and I am in dilemma right now.

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Employment would be hit that's for sure. What is tough to predict is - by how much and for how long. As a general rule, grads from the top schools with recognisable MBA brands will bounce back faster. If you aren't sure about the market value of your admit, then it would be good to seriously evaluate if you want to take up the offer.

      Check the placement stats for international students in your target programs, and also chat with a few students to learn about the challenges they face.
      FYI, if you choose to come back, the Irish degree is unlikely to have a strong brand recall among Indian employers.

      The lower you go with the bschool ranking, the more flexible they get in overlooking flaws in the profile. But the lower you go, the less valuable the degree. So make sure you draw the line well and check with the program office whether you'd be eligible.
