    Hi Sameer! I’m Kevin from Perú. First of all, I want to thank you for writing the book beyond the MBA hype! It was so eye opening to realize that I was blindly trying to get an MBA degree without even knowing what to do with it or being conscious about the large amount of debt it would take in order to study the MBA. Also, thank you for all your content in your website and TH-cam channel.
    Well, now I want to ask you how should I start looking for MBAs. My approach is to have a great time abroad and learn some stuff that I can apply afterwards, but I really don’t want to mess with a high gmat score or compete with high profile students. It is important to mention that I want to stay working in the US but I really don’t need a 6 figure salary, just a job that lets me pay back the MBA in a reasonable time. So, after saying all this, what I was thinking is to pursue a not so expensive MBA even though I know the trade-off is to get a not so recognized degree and maybe a lower quality experience as if I went to a top MBA program.
    I think I can commit to work hard for getting a job and focus on this from day 1. Also, my preferred location is California.
    I’ve also read that you encourage people for having a plan b. My plan b would be to come back to my country and look for a job, that’s it. That’s why I don’t want to get a very expensive MBA, because in my country salaries are not very high.
    Last but not least, I want to mention that I have a friend of mine that got into Hult MBA and it seems like he has secured a job. He needs first to end his program and then will start working on his H1B. So if he can do it with that kind of school, I guess there are other ones that could work, right?
    All the best and hope you can answer this message.
    Kevin

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Glad you found the book and our blogs/videos helpful.
      Coming to your queries, here are some things to be aware of. If you skip the GMAT, you may be compelled to apply to lower ranked programs. Even if you aren't targeting 6-figure salaries, you're still competing with other international MBA grads from better programs as well as local (American) students. Having a strong brand can open up more doors.
      If financing the MBA is a challenge, you can aim for bschools where you're more likely to get scholarships. That's another aspect where a good GMAT score can help.
      You have a pretty good and unique professional profile. Don't underestimate your potential by lowering the bar. Have a mix of Ambitious, practical and backup schools. If you get multiple offers, you can always pick the one where the RoI seems the best, even if you have to go with plan B.

      MBA Crystal Ball doesn't give scholarships. We help applicants choose the right program and then help them in putting in strong applications. Based on that they get scholarships from the bschools they apply to. Here are some stories of applicants who've managed to get MBA scholarships from programs across the world. For matters related to eligibility, rather than relying on a 3rd party's opinion, it's best to check directly with some of your target universities. More so in your case, since you have a double degree.

      Universities make the decisions based on different internal policies, specially for cases such as yours. Which is why we suggest getting in touch with them for the right answer.
