First airing in Japan last summer, Sand Land is coming worldwide exclusively to Hulu.
It includes never before scenes and a brand-new story that continues from the movie created by Akira Toriyama!
Story
The world’s water supply is all but dried up, with the small amount remaining controlled by a greedy king. Tired of suffering under the king’s rule, Sheriff Rao reaches out to Sand Land’s demons for help, and together they set off on a journey to discover The Legendary Spring. Beelzebub has a childish charm with quotes like, ""I stayed up late and went to bed without brushing my teeth,"" but he also has the strength to fight off his enemies. The small town sheriff Rao is well-liked and has the personality to respect demons like equals. The demon Thief is good at stealing and actually not much older than Beelzebub, but is treated like an old man because of his appearance and the way he talks. Through his journey with Beelzebub and his friends, Rao soon realizes that demons are not enemies of humans.

Technically wouldnt dragon ball super be his finale work once adapted sure it takes some liberties but it fellows alot of the manga

SandLand is single-volume manga he drew about 23yrs ago. The story is quite simple road traveling through world's largest desert to find a legendary water spring that never runs dry, but they seem to have expanded the story/events in this CGI anime adaptation.
Toriyama never made more SandLand, just that single tankōbon (volume) but it's somewhat thicker/more pages than example in typical DB volume.
Toriyama's lesser known masterpiece finally gets an adaptation. Can't wait!

I’m glad to see Toriyama’s other works getting the recognition it deserves. I would’ve never guessed that we would be getting a sand land anime and game this spring. Thanks for the parting gift Toriyama. We all miss you.

Really going all in on this property huh. A new film, a new game, a new series.
I support it, it’s just funny after how long this has been around as a manga. Guess Toriyama is big enough now that people are seeing value in his other works. The accessible Mad Max meets Dragon Ball/Dragon Quest nature of Sand Land is smart, in terms of cashing in on something and investing in a franchise.
its a One-Shot Manga tho, i dont understand how they can make a movie and let alone a series based on it.
@@horacionivar2869Sand Land is a manga with 14 chapters and all of those chapters are in a single volume. Don't think that it has little material to adapt or it is a one shot.

Anime series means I can now truly tell people it's like Dragon Ball and Blue Dragon combined! :) Akira's got a hit here.
Blue Dragon also got an animated series, though the story was drastically different between it and the game.

@@AzaiaMonota True, but many of us didn't know it existed until they announced the pending game about a year ago. There are a LOT of mangas from when I was young (I'm 40 now) that may have been available in the US but I still don't know about, and what's worse is that several of them are really good.

I started watching this on Hulu without ever hearing about it before. The art style looked so familiar, I had to look it up. Sure enough, it's from Akira Toriyama. One of the last things he ever worked on. Toriyama truly was a master and a genius.
He probably contributed to the stuff that goes past his original one shot manga but that came out around 2009 iirc, the series and game are pretty recwnt

Fun fact: Beelzebub’s va, Mutsumi Tamura, also plays Daruizen, a similar demon monster in the magical girl anime Healin Good Precure. She’s basically been in both sides of the shonen/shoujo spectrum as similar characters!

It's a Hulu series tho. Not Netflix so it won't be on Netflix probably for 6months to a yr after release and that's if Netflix get the rights to stream it on their platform. But if this show becomes extremely popular then Netflix wont have it for a while

Toriyama personally worked with Disney on the production of this anime. it was actually the last project he worked on completely before his untimely death so please support this anime guys
There was a movie of it before this series came out as well. Was Toriyama involved with the movie?
@@OWmyDragonballz the movie only covers the first three episodes of the the series and it was Toho, who was in charge of production Toriyama wasn’t really involved with the film toriyama personally worked with the Disney anime committee to expand on the story and make more episodes to make the adaptation more faithful to the manga
@@shinkisaragi4369 And the second arc even though it’s anime only, is canon since Toriyama wrote it. So I guess you could say that while the manga is canon, the anime is even more canon because it continues the manga story.

this is very clearly a Akira Toriyama product & already love the look of dragon quest i watched & finished Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai 2020 so i can't wait to see where this goes

Nothing to be confused about really. The series will cover the events of the manga + film, but also the series features an expanded narrative from Toriyama himself, that part will be newly written.
Don’t ask how I know. Just look it up. It’s all well documented on the Wikipedia with cited sources.

@Kerunou still kinda confused. These look like 1:1 scenes from the movie save for two moments. I can't tell if this is just the movie with extra scenes and cut up into episodes or if this is a newly animated and written version of Sand Land.
And it's a really good show and it's totally worth your time.

It's great to see Hulu is getting original anime tv series premiering on their platform and Not getting automatically thrown to Netflix just for the popularity of it's consumer demographic.

It’s licensed by Disney. It’s not gonna be going to Netflix ever. Hulu on by Disney that’s why it’s on their platform but it’s also gonna be on Disney+ simultaneously.
