This entire score is astonishing and unforgettable... and the portion beginning at 2:42, when Horner launched the pipe organ and those spiraling strings for the hourglass spell, was a jaw-dropper. I wish any of the multiple composers who've written music for the X-Men's Phoenix had found anything half as awe-inspiring as this.
This was certainly the most tense scene of the movie! I had one of the characters I grew to like in this film, plus a track that captured the vibe of both ALIEN and STAR TREK II. GOD I LOVE THIS!!
One of the many classic cues of this marvelous soundtrack by the great James horner!!! Love the dreamy harp followed by the partially rising horns in between, great cue James composed!! Those horns are very identical to style of the horns at the beginning of the cue " Khan's pets" from James's Star trek 2 soundtrack! I haven't heard all of James's soundtracks but ive heard a pretty good number of them and so far Krull is my favorite!!! James put so much into it, his powerful music matched the huge event of the movie. James was such a gifted composer, and at his young tender age around this time of this soundtrack how could somebody that young be seasoned enough to compose a major masterpiece like the Krull soundtrack, amazing!!!!
Excellent adaptation near the start of the discordant horns heard in Khan's introduction in Star Trek II and in Aliens. That was always a great creepy sound. Also hearkens to one of my favorite cues from the following year's Star Trek III ("Stealing the Enterprise"). Excellent use of choir.
Just listen to the orchestral texture he creates at the start of this. Honestly, could you wish for a better evocation of a creepy, drafty spider's lair? And then that terrifying chord at 1:33 when the spider appears!
All of the comments speak about Khan and Star Trek 2, didnt anybody realize, that from the Beginning this is most similar to Aliens? Especially at 2:13 it is nearly the same like the Queens motive from „Queen to Bishop“ before switching back to Wrath of Khan 😉
A short while back. I wrote a short story for kids. An imagined scene that could have used in the last Chipmunk movie. "Theodore vs THE JUNGLE MONSTER!"; had a mammoth Tarantula as the fiend that terrorized the youngest members of the group. If I filmed that scene. I would have insisted that you would adapt your piece "The Widows web", for it. The movie would have gotten a PG rating, but the scene would have been memorable.
3:00 'kirk you do this you'll never sit in the captains chair again....'
'warp speed'
Now I want to draw that horrific spider..
RIP James Horner thank you for your awesome art and sound.

I give you THIS time.
THIS SCORE IS THE STUFF THAT NIGHTMARES ARE MADE OF...
Phantanos Definitely haunting and beautiful at the same time.
Cold and beautiful.
You'd like Star Trek 2 Wrath of Kahn as well then. Many of the cues are similar. Also some from Star Trek 3, try Genesis Countdown for example.

I picture Kirk, Savik, and McCoy searching Regula 1
...and yes the space-doors finally opening during the theft of Enterprise
And Ripley searching for Newt in the incubation room
I agree, but wait!! the film is Krull! not Star Trek. Go figure!
Phasers on stun... Move out..
2:42 I swear this suddenly just switched to the score from Star Trek 2. LOL
"Widow's Web" not Windows... And clearly the best cut on the score!
Great as Howard Shore's LOTR score is, this just stomps all over the music for Shelob's Lair.
2:42 - strong inspiration for new Dune

He Made these Movies transcend
When the theater put out movies ; not saying shows are not good today it's just the orchestra was quite unique .

Window or Widow?
Widow.
i know this is facetious. and I LOVE this soundtrack (why can't you buy it?) but how can a window have a web? ;-)
devi2691 You can buy it, or at least you could. I have the two CD set.
My windows have lots of webs - maybe I should clean them.

widow's web please, not window...
5 years later. Still a window 🤦♂
Stealing the Enterprise.
He treats his music like a poem.
In the same sense as Star Wars is like a poem, everything rhymes.
@@MAnuscript421 Fuck off lol, this fucking meme. It's so dense!
