I miss these bright, uplifting scores and movies. Everything is now dark, sombre and minimalist, I hate it. I love these epic scores and crescendo moments that lift you up and make you feel like you've just conquered the world.
Absolutely Immense Score.. To me Krull, Battle Beyond the Stars and Star Trek Wrath of Khan are Amazing.. Some people don't like how similar they are.. But I love all the motifs he uses in them.. They don't make em like this anymore
Yes they are similar, even the same, but I don't care. I guess it helps that I really like all three movie. Over the years I've come to think of these 3 soundtracks as coming from a single "super movie".
The similarity between Krull and Star Trek, The Wrath of Khan is extraordinary! There are portions of each where if you close your eyes and listen, you might not be able to tell which soundtrack you're listening to. Some people like you and I don't care (or maybe don't mind) the similarity. Others may find it objectionable. But, as you say, "they don't make em like this anymore."
Greg N I need to watch Battle Beyond the Stars again.. I've watched the other two so much I've neglected BBTS.. But I'm always listening to the Soundtracks. James Horner passing was such a great loss to the world of Film Scores
Vic Glazer This is so true, It's just the way he uses strings and the build up to certain parts of the Scores are so great. He had so much more to offer and there's so many films that come out now that I think would have been better with a James Horner Soundtrack
Couldnt have said it better myself. This movie perfectly illustrates how a score can elevate the film to make it better than it actually is. Horner will remain my favorite composer of all time.
Watching "Krull" for the first time on TV, I missed James Horner's name in the credits. But when I heard this part of the soundtrack, I knew exactly whose work it was.
That little motif at 1:23 is classic from Horner. I’ve heard that in Deep Impact and House Of Sand And Fog. Such a talent. His soundtracks were special.
Wonderful orchestral music! It's been a long time since we had movies like this! Surprising! Amazing! I liked very much! Pure entertainment of excellent quality!
Nah, current Hollywood can't make a remake to save themselves, they have become to cynical, too cautious and too PC. Look at the mess they made of Clash of the Titans. Leave it be, it's so much the better for being such a product of the 80's.
Even apart from the comments made by others, which are spot on, it would still suck swamp water. There'd also be shaky cam, jump cuts, lens flare, all-child casting, a TG sub-theme, and a powerful lesson in cooperation for all when the Beast turns out to have been a mutated Krull-origin being who was cast out by bigoted haters and came back for revenge. Because, you know, outsiders never come trying to conquer your homeworld.
They were composed by the same man. All movie composers are like that...to some degree. Listen to how similar some of the PT stuff by John Williams is to the OT (STAR WARS).
Angela Roquemore I get what you're saying, but the John Williams stuff was from the same franchise. James Horner put "James Horner" into multiple movies. It's one of the things he was most criticized for, but I love it. From "Humanoids from the Deep" all the way up to "Star Trek III", they were all basically Star Trek soundtracks. I love that.
+Gary Stone I don't think it was entirely his own choice, from what I have read a lot of the time the directors and producers were saying "we hired you because of your work on xxx and we want the same sound". In his later work when he could afford to be more choosy he develops a much broader style.
Oh Heck Here I Go! Although James Horner was a Gifted and Imaginative Composer His Work and His Self Belief in his own Orchestral Pieces Did Not Coalesce Until the Very Late 80s and the 90s onwards Earning them a Far More Original and Distinctive Richer Aesthetic as Opposed to being Resonant of a Previous Composition? Up until this Point His Work were Essentially Collages, and Montages of Previous Compositions! Not Only this His Leaning towards Classical Composers such as Holst, Beethoven, Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky is Self Evident in the High Procussion Deep Roll of the Drums and the Low Timbre of an Approaching Dread! Also is Worthy of Note is the Profound Influence of Jerry Goldsmith on His Work. For a Small Blurb such as this, examples and films are too numerous to cross reference and present a cogent argument for this case?! But if you are a True Admirer of Jerry Goldsmith and You’ve also Collected Horner then Extensive Listening will Bear this Out!? It has annoyed me that such Films as Cocoon 1&2 have basically Sampled STII and Aliens for their Soundtracks? This Is Weak, Miserly and Unimaginative! It also Dilutes the Integrity of those Compositions!? Imagine if the Director Listened to Paramount Regarding the Soundtrack to STII? Would you Believe that they Actually wanted to re-cycle The Motion Picture Soundtrack? How Odd or more to the Point How Horrible it would have been attempting to essentially shoehorn a Purpose Made Composition into a scene it was never Composed For? It is hardly worth imagination!? But as I don’t intend to write a thesis on this- James Horner was a Gifted Composer, not a Great Composer and Unfortunately Only Really Began to Really Mature Artistically, Musically at the Point of His Very Sad and Profound Loss. One can only Wonder at the Compositions that He Could Have Realised in the 21st Century?
"Don't worry. If it's there, I'll come back with it."
"If you do not come back with it, you'll not come back at all."
screw you ynir for being a blimy pessimist!
RIP Freddie Jones.
Ooo, deep…

World too PC now

How right you are!
Best fantasy B movie ever, with an A soundtrack!
Couldnt have said it better myself. This movie perfectly illustrates how a score can elevate the film to make it better than it actually is. Horner will remain my favorite composer of all time.
2:25. What an amazing transition.
Watching "Krull" for the first time on TV, I missed James Horner's name in the credits. But when I heard this part of the soundtrack, I knew exactly whose work it was.
Some of the most achingly beautiful "Quest music" ever written! I can feel the Glaive in my hands even now...😁
Me too
Then, that "Take the fire from my hand."
agreed..i am 47 and feel my the ache of time in my bones..but when spring comes..this music makes me feel young and alive again!
Goodbye Mister Horner, thank you for all the beautiful music!

James Horner RIP
Magic at the Movies. Krull is one of the best and always will be
Epic, just fucking epic score. His eyes light up when the molten ash drops off the glaive. Then the blades come out. Just a beautiful score.
one of the best by James Horner R.I.P
2:53 I want this played at my funeral.
Wonderful orchestral music! It's been a long time since we had movies like this! Surprising! Amazing! I liked very much! Pure entertainment of excellent quality!
One of my favorite movies, sound track plays in my mind allot
BRUTAL ❤❤❤❤❤👌
They should do a remake of this movie. Would be awesome!
Nah, current Hollywood can't make a remake to save themselves, they have become to cynical, too cautious and too PC. Look at the mess they made of Clash of the Titans. Leave it be, it's so much the better for being such a product of the 80's.
Maybe an Amazon/Netflix would be a good alternative.. Stretch out the story so we can learn more about Krull, The Widow of The Web and the Slayers
They would ruin it with an all-female cast and an SJW theme.
Amazing orchestration
This, I think with Star Treks II & III, is one of his best works...oh yea and Battle Beyond the Stars
Best song ever to hype up good men
So Magical.
Merci vous merci krull Horner ans all
Lets go for a ride on a Firemare!!!!!!!
Every time I get to 7:10, I expect the horns from the ST2 main theme.
They were composed by the same man. All movie composers are like that...to some degree. Listen to how similar some of the PT stuff by John Williams is to the OT (STAR WARS).

Gary Stone That's a movie I never heard of... . This movie is more like an LOTR or Lion/Witch/Wardrobe style score for him than his STAR TREK scores.
+Gary Stone I don't think it was entirely his own choice, from what I have read a lot of the time the directors and producers were saying "we hired you because of your work on xxx and we want the same sound". In his later work when he could afford to be more choosy he develops a much broader style.
Also, ST2 was really low budget, they probably got a deal on him to not have to come up with a completely unique score :)
The Quest For The Glave epic ❤😮😊😢🎉
This is magnificent!
Love this piece, it's so magical x
The piano piece from 4:18 should last much longer.
"I.... Can not stop.. the sand."
" You Cannot Stop time"
Best DUNGEONS@DRAGONS style theme music EVER!!
2:24
If they ever do a Legend of Zelda Movie they need this too be the music for when link gets the Master Sword.
It drives me bonkers that the title is misspelled.
The Beast is their son.
Glaive
Glaive +1
Glaive + 2
Light sabre
I'm titch..... Adequate
