I bought my PS5 beginning of the year and I gave my PlayStation 4 to my son. my 5 was working perfectly fine until I re-signed into my PlayStation 4 and ever since then in April it has not been updating and I finally came across this video today and it worked . thank you so much.

Why? It’s literally the same information brought to the PS5. Controller not charging? Take controller cable and plug it in. Now your controller should charge.
Good that you made this video. I had a couple times a slight glitch. So when I checked it didn't update. I looked at the version number then went into safe mode and sure enough it allowed an update there. Seems still some people think the rest mode problem is around and it shouldn't be

Hey man. My PlayStation just refuses to Update. Like at ALL! USB, WiFi, LAN nothing and now I’m stuck on Safe Mode. I even got to the point where I tried to factory reset and it still was asking for an update before it resets. Everything I’ve tried to do isn’t working and I don’t have the receipt to send it to get fixed with the warranty. I need help
You missed most probably the biggest issue if your PS5 isn't updating. The SSD is full. Check your storage, if full, delete some old media/videos/pictures that you might have captured during gameplay. I would say if you can clear 20GB of data, then you should be clear. I suppose 10GB would also do. Freeing up only 2GB of data might not be enough. I actually had a game patch complain that there wasn't enough space to install the update. I can see the same being for the OS. On the PS5, SSD space is a commodity.

I think the title of the video is inaccurate. I don’t think it’s intentional. Your video doesn’t say why it’s not automatically updating, just how to go in and update it if it didn’t automatically update. I haven’t had this issue yet, knock on wood lol. But, if it did happen I’d be curious as to why? Also, once you follow your tips on updating manually, will it start auto updating again on the next update, or will people with this problem keep having the problem? Sometimes when you read something online, without hearing tone of voice, it can be misinterpreted. I don’t want to sound like a negative Nancy. I wasn’t trying to come off aggressively or anything. I always use a hardwired connection on my PS5 and never had any issues regardless on how good your wifi connection is. PS: Hardwired is always the best and fastest connection for gaming in general.
Not when the modem/router is in an entirely different room. This is the 2nd system I've bought for my daughter. First one had many issues. Now this one times out trying to install the update. This is beyond annoying.
Another fantastic video! So far system updates have been pretty straightforward, when I awaken my console from rest mode the update is already downloaded and waiting for me to press install. Nice to know there's other options.
My system update stopped downloading part way through it, and realised I had a game running so I closed it, and it still didn't work, so I restarted the PS5 and then it worked.
Before proceed on this method is good to delete first the already downloaded update file and then to update the software from safe mode menu as in the video .
Is it safe to leave the switch off on my power strip when im not at home? When Tv and Console is connected to it? I have the one with On and Off Click. Thanks for advice!

When updating it it stays at 2.17 MB I have a ether net cable and have done muiltible internet test and they say my internet is fine I'll left it for 2 hours and it's still at 2.17mb
Any idea what to do when the USB method doesn't work either? No matter what I do, update online offline, safe mode, regular mode, or even full factory reset. I get error SU-101217-2. It also doesn't let me connect to wifi, only Ethernet. It's out of warranty so Sony won't fix it without paying a lot.
Another great video John. Having odd thing happening with my PS5 which works fine except when using a USB wireless headset. I get a black screen drop out for about 3 secs. Sound is fine just black screen. Connected to LG CX and changed hdmi lead and sockets. It's odd as only happens with headset and tried several different ones.
Cancel that and thanks as you're reply got me thinking. I think I've worked it out and why it happens after 20 mins. It's my Sony soundbar going to sleep I think.
Mate do you have any info on the internal storage upgrade? I've just had to delete CW PS5 version due to not enough storage. All I have is Warzone, MW and CW on my console. Ive had the issue of a cpl games not updating after the updates were downloaded. But going into safemode and clearing the cache solved that...the next option would be to rebuild the database
I had a case where the update failed and it booted into safe mode only with everything blanked out other than the option to update the system or restart. Restart simply brought me back into safe mode and update always failed and booted back into safe mode. Took hours to figure out what's wrong and wanted to take it back to the store. Holding the power button and booting into safe mode somehow took the system to the proper safe mode with everything available and I was able to get to the home screen and download the system. It somehow worked and not sure if this will ever happen again. When in doubt, boot into safe mode even when you are already in safe mode
I know this is a old post. I'm currently having this issue with update 7.0 the Discord update that just dropped today. My PS5 was in rest mode when the update applied and when I turned it on boom safe mode like you described. I've had only one option to get my PS5 back the rebuild database clear cache etc none of that worked not even the USB method. So unfortunately I had to completely reset and I lost all of my saved clips. I'm so pissed off about that. So three times in a row I get back to the dashboard and everything is like normal. But if I install either through USB or internet the newest update it always goes to that odd safe mode where you can pick anything. Please John or someone help me please it's driving me crazy. My games play fine if I don't update.
@@chipperripper0896 hey in my case I had to switch it off and switch it onto safe mode. At the time there were 2 'safe modes'. The one where it goes by itself and the one I can boot to myself. You don't want to be in the first one (don't just power on), you want the second one (keep holding power). If it's still the same case similar to mine you should be in the save mode where yo can download the update. If this doesn't help I'd suggest you switch off auto update. Wait a week before you update your system after an update is pushed out in case there are any bugs or errors. Also switching off auto update means you won't just switch on your console and find yourself in the safe mode of doom and you'll run every update on your own time. I do understand that if you need to play online or go online eg for Spotify you need the latest system update so you probably won't be able to hold off an update for a week.

I could get it to update fully via flash drive or download it in safe mode. Well now I can't even get back to the dashboard like I could before I did the initialize part. Now it's forever stuck in safe mode. Everytime I try to install the software or update it always says it can't be completed three times in a row then after that the console just shuts off. I'm at a complete loss. See my problem is I basically always leave my 5 in rest mode cause I love to remote play while at work in single player games. The new discord update finally comes out and it basically bricked my console over night. I'm so mad right now I don't know what to even do. Just thank God I still have my Switch OLED.
I'm having an opposite problem. I've turned off auto updates for everything after the Stellar Blade debacle and even went offline entirely until Elden Ring dlc. Now every time I turn the net on it tries to update Stellar Blade automatically. I have to cancel and delete to make sure I still own what I paid for. Why is auto off not actually OFF? Anybody know?🙏

Don’t forget to delete the PS4 version & save room. Just highlight over the R6S pic on your UI hit options, select PS5 version if you haven’t already figured that out.. GL

I turned off automatic installation but left the “download updates” on. I like to read what’s new in the updates.

You must go in and select Ethernet instead of WiFi.. it doesn't switch automatically!

I would assume so as long as you’re completely turning off your ps5 before you flip the switch on your power strip you should be okay.

How do you make it automatically update all of it? I always have to be there to advance the update a couple of times.
It should be in power settings there should be a setting to install updates while in rest mode

Lol I had the same issue, got my ps5 last week.. played rainbow 6 for 2-3 days on the playstation 4 version... Then realised I had to again download the ps5 version.. 😭
@@AchelseaFan10 Yeah I always check which version is check marked when I have both versions of a game downloaded. RS6, Wreckfest, Hunter Call of The Wild, CODBO etc..
Does your PS5 sometimes just automatically turn on when the TV turns on? Did the update change that? (It didn't do that for me before)
Yeah you have to turn off the feature in settings

I have a problem with my PS5. Call of Duty Modern Warfare keep deleting parts of installs of itself. I can't tell if it's my PS5 when I turn it off or its Activision during its weekly mini-updates. Thanks. (Downloaded on external HDD)
Usually if I just pause and resume the download it works fine.
