  • What makes Yugioh fun? Are we all simply insane masochists playing this game? Is there merit to playing Yugioh casually? Is competitive the only real way to play it? Let's talk about it.

    If there's actual back and forth as a majority of the game, that's what I personally see as fun. Fun is always subjective, but I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that its more enjoyable when the game *NATURALLY* goes back and forth and lasts longer.

    I started playing mtg recently and its SO easy to explain to people. Commander format is so much fun too, you can just play with as many people as you like in the same game. In yugioh I feel like its a race to the top because the meta has become so cut throat since Ishizu and labyrinth. I don't know if I am the only one who feels they were such a massive step up in power level.

      I'm new to Yugioh, play heaps of Magic, I have heaps of friends and family who I've gotten into Magic but I feel like if I tried to play Yugioh with any of them they would hate it...

    i think what Yu Gi Oh need are tier-based formats like pokemon showdown ones (OU, UU, RU, NU and PU)
    not every 2020 card is broken

    • @vonakakkola
      @vonakakkola 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      edit: i recently discover the existence of kuchen format, but don't think it's better than the actual modern yu gi oh, because even if they made tier-based formats, the game even at lower tier is still "solitare, unbreakable board at turn 1 and don't let the opponent to do anything"
      so if your only problem is that your archetype is weak against kashtira and other meta archetypes, go and play kuchen format, but if you want a slow and fun game of Yu Gi Oh where both players play together instead of second player watch solitaire, avoid this format

    I like yugioh, I want to like yugioh, but the biggest thing that taxes me into taking a break is how long some matches can last. Also it's demoralizing to get hit by certain handtraps to devastating results. You could be playing an off meta deck but you still get hit by handtraps everyone runs to counter meta decks. To be fair I only play MD, never been a physical player with multiple rounds.

      The reason people have to play toxic turn one is because “win the game” cards like DRNM, Nibiru, droll, And Evenly Matched are legal at 3 copies. So unless you can set up negates which are unfun, you willl get ass blasted by a single card.

    Honestly, the game is fun as long as both can get the chance to play the game. When it gets all about one card combos and locking the other from playing so one of them can do all the plays they want rather than an interesting back and forth, that's when the game goes from fun to frustrating.

      How about when both players get to play the same amount after ns boarder set 4 pass

      @@Illya9999Player A summons Inspector Boarder, sets 4, activates Cards of Demise, sets to 5, passes.
      Player B draws for turn. Player B sets a monster face-down, sets 5, passes.
      Player A draws for turn, normal summons Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo and attacks with Inspector Boarder into the set monster.
      The set monster is a Marshmallon.
      Player A loses in time.

      @@nigerianprinceajani what I was meaning with my comment was that if your only criteria for a fun game is that both players play the same amount. Normal summoning boarder then flipping a bunch of stun traps makes it so both players play almost nothing so it must be fun because they are playing the same amount

    • @nigerianprinceajani

      @@Illya9999 I mean I get the idea that since both players do nothing for 7 turns that they are getting an equal amount of play time.
      I was just trying to make a point about how experiencing core Yu-Gi-Oh! gameplay is essential to the fun part.
      If one side of the table doesn't get to play their cards due to bullshit trap rulings having a non-linear understanding of time and ridiculous cards that were designed a quarter of a century ago for a game nobody really plays in that form anymore, there isn't any fun involved. Same goes for not being able to activate certain effects (who on godess' earth designed Amano-Iwato and Inspector Boarder?) or even attacking (insert witty Mystic Mine reference).
      I do not try to argue with you, I think we're making the same point.

    Ima be completely honest here, all my life I been a fan and only played yugioh I quit around 2011, when all my good cards were stolen at high school, just recently this year I decided to give it a try and I just can’t get that same fun sometimes I can’t even play if I go second because my opponent put up like 20 negates and even if I have some cards to negate him he can still up a decent cut negate board that still prevent me from play. That to me isn’t fun, 4 days ago I decided for the first time in my life to give magic the gathering a chance and so far I’m liking and is more fun since both players are fighting back and forth. I wish I would of gave magic the gathering a chance back then to me is looking the better game as of now, yugioh just has fallen as a good fun card game

    Yu-gi-oh would be fun if not for all the negates and "cost" effects.
    By "cost" I mean like Destiny Hero pheonix, which lets you destroy your card and opponent's card, which seems perfectly balanced, until you notice that it can target itself and has a secondary effect that if it's destroyed by card effect it can be brought back, the same turn.
    Like, that's just free.
    Or Barone De Flour has quick effect negate that's not once per turn.
    Buh ho boy! She has to discard a card FROM EXTRA DECK, that's sooo terrible.
    I'd get it if those cards were hard to play, but shit get summoned everytime, it's basically if it's in the deck, they gon get it within 3 moves.
    It's just cancer and not good for the 'GAME'. It is good for selling packs tho.
    EDIT: Silly me, haha, Barone De Flour just has that effect for free lol, no need to send cards from extra deck AND the negate also destroys it :D

    • @kindlingking
      @kindlingking 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But Baronne's negate is also once while it's face up on the field, meaning once it's used up it's gone. Apo, the poster child of generic negate boards also doesn't just negate, but has to spend it's ATK. Savage was a mistake however.

    • @JackBlack-qn7us
      @JackBlack-qn7us 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@kindlingking True, but that's where the second ability comes in, where you can send baron back to the extra deck and get another monster out, aka, you can repeat it over and over, every turn. It's not even a MUST, it's IF, so do that every turn and you're golden. Only way to counter it is just to have something like ash, that prevents her summons and have that not negated, or have a way to keep blowing up tuners.
      I didn't even knew Apo existed. what the fuck

  • @AJ-hu4ig
    @AJ-hu4ig 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    For the most part, no. If you're not playing with a good group of friends, everyone else is running the sweatiest meta deck they can make. Those decks fall into one of two categories. Either "I play half my deck and flood the field with negates and burn effects" or "I play half my deck and summon this 4000atk behemoth, turn 1, that can't be targeted, does piercing, and resurrects itself if sent to the graveyard!" While a bit of an exaggeration, it's a constant issue of being shut out of the game by people who only care about winning, even in casual matches.

      Yugioh cards are designed to be Unfun,
      Labrynth having an in engine hand rip that can steal 2 cards from your opening hand before your first main phase 1 is unfair by design,
      Ash blossom stopping your actions for the cost of a single discard is never fun. Or skilll based, it functions off pure luck and card advantage.

      @@isidoreaerys8745 Links and hand traps are the 2 worst things to happen because it lets people pull off the dumbest, braindead combos without having to think about how the actual game works. The silver lining is if you can interrupt a meta deck player at least twice on their turn, they have no idea what to do and give up.
