Did you know that MLB is the oldest major professional sports league in the world or that the Arizona Diamondbacks could’ve been called the Phoenix Cactus Cutters? Why is the Pittsburgh called the pirates? This is how every MLB team got their name and identity.

Hey everyone! Was brought to my attention that I made some state mispronunciations in the video. I apologize, I am from Canada, I come from an Igloo and i am not educated. With that being said, I should have taken some time to really look up the names further. Thank you for the constructive criticism!
I definitely heard you pronounce Milwaukee as Milawaukee consistently, and even though I am not a fan of anything regarding Wisconsin, it kinda rustled my jimmies hearing you say that, ngl I figured it was either a speech impediment or an accent, and I'll take being Canadian as an excuse lol
With respect, it's not just states and cities, there's a lot you pronounce incorrectly. And don't use "I'm Canadian"...I'm Canadian and I don't know anyone who pronounces "pirating" that way.
Great video though, big respect. Thank you for making it.
@MaxwellGriffin001 the pronunciation of pirating is correct.
I’m not offended by Milwaukee GO CUBBIES!
When the Dodgers changed the team name to the Robins it was to honor its beloved manger Wilbert Robinson. When he stepped down after the 1931 season the team reverted back to the Dodgers. Wilbert Robinson was the manger of the team for 18 years and is in the Hall of Fame.
its pronunced mill-wah-kee not mil-a-wah-kee
It aint a vid by me if there isnt a pronunciation error it seems. I apologize as a Canadian, im dumb.
@@BottomoftheInning i understand milwaukee is a very weird spelling
Well to be totally honest and kinda gay, the Milwaukee Native Americans, whom the name is taken after actually pronounce it that way.. Mil-a-Wahkee
@@thehalfmanTLIs being gay a bad thing? Not trying to be a jerk but come on man lol
Clearly you've never seen Wayne's World
Dodgers still works for LA nowadays, instead of dodging street cars in the bustling borough of Brooklyn, they have to dodge drivers going 110mph in a 25mph zone!
Amazing, detailed video. I really enjoyed watching this. Very well done.
It was the Brooklyn Bridegrooms, not Bridge grooms.
After six of their players were married during and after the 1888 season, the club was called the Bridegrooms.
Oh man, what about the Mets colors being the Giants orange and Dodger blue? Prob the only trivia I know about them, haha
The lettering especially traces back to the Giants.
And Yankee pinstripes.
Despite the computer voice’s mispronunciations, this was really cool!
#letsgocactuscutters
Love this video. Great job.
"Bud Selig... renamed the Seattle Pilots to the Milwaukee Brewers."
Yeah about that. I think you mean Selig STOLE the Pilots from Seattle.
There. I fixed it for ya.
The Colorado Rockies was the name of their NHL team from 1976-82
Dropping "Devil" from their name also allowed the Rays to now invoke the rays of the sun as a new inspiration for the team name, as seen by the sunburst graphic in the new logo. (Whether or not the Rays' name still also refers to the fish is debatable.)
everyone focusing on mispronunciations but this a great video bro keep it up
Fun fact mission San Diego was founded on July,16 1769 witch is exactly 200 years before the Apollo 11 rocket launch in theme of the San Diego padres
The number of negative comments on an overall great video is ridiculous 🙄
The goat is back
My favorite teams are the cubs, the white Sox and the blue Jays!
maybe just pick one team. How are you gonna be a cubs and a white Sox fan? That’s just so wrong
@@torreyblair8361 I originally thought that was a okay, thingfor some odd reason I wasn't sure if I should suggest I trust white Sox fans or not,I preferred the cubs before that time, and my thoughts have changed since then ,there is no longer any need for a new favorite, but I don't know if I made a mistake.
Unknowingly, the Kansas City Royals name pays tribute to two of KC's past teams. KC's long-time American Association team was called the Blues, and the Negro League team was the Monarchs. Royal is a shade of blue; and royal and monarch are related terms.
You neglected to mention that the Mets chose blue and orange as their team colors to reference the previous NY teams, the Dodgers and Giants respectively, to try and draw from both of their old fan bases.
I am a bit disappointed that you mention the 2021 name change from Indians to Guardians, but don't say what the Guardians name is based on. It's based on the Guardians of Traffic, the eight statues built into the pylons at both ends of the Hope Memorial Bridge, which is immediately to the southwest of the stadium, and which many fans drive over on their way to a game.
The Cleveland Gays
And the city in Massachusetts is spelled Worcester but is pronounced Wusstah.
Just a quick Check - the all orange Giants cap was a spring training cap only for this season - never worn in a season game . Giants wear black caps with an orange SF and button on the top . Occasionally they wear a 1970’s retro black cap with orange bill .
Why was there a team called the orphans? 🤦♂️
logos next?
If this video does good, consider it done 🫡
@@BottomoftheInningthat would be amazing

Being from KC we were always told the royals was a nod to the old negro league monarch team.
I actually had never heard why my Cubs got their name, and Wikipedia never had a good explanation whenever I would look it up. It's satisfying knowing the origin of their name at long last thanks to this video, which is honestly the sole reason I even clicked on it. I knew the Bears got that name because, at least according to my dad, football players tend to be bigger than baseball players, so instead of just going off the trend of football teams naming themselves after their cities' baseball teams, Halas named the Bears as such because they're bigger than Cubs, but neither of us had any information on why the Cubs were called that name. Now I finally know, and should share this with my dad. Wikipedia hadn't provided proper timelines for the Cubs' previous nicknames, either, so now I guess I finally know that. I do recall hearing that they got the Orphans nickname because their ballpark burned down in the Great Chicago Fire, come to think of it, and that's not something you brought up in this video, but that's neither here nor there.
ETA: If you don't mind, would you update the Wikipedia page for the Cubs to include why they're called the Cubs so that other Cubs fans can easily find that out? I don't know what your source is, but I don't recall being able to see it on the Cubs' own website, so adding it to their Wikipedia page would probably help out other curious Cubs fans when they get asked why the team is named the Cubs
Aside from the Giants, which other football teams were named after the city's baseball team? (No, the Cardinals don't count, as they already had the name before relocating to St. Louis before eventually moving to Phoenix.)
I always call Cleveland Indians Chief Wahoo should be name .😊😊😊😊😊 Chief Wahoo, Indians Chief Wahoo Indians Chief Wahoo 😊😊😊😊😊😊. You need calling them right name Cleveland Indians Chief Wahoo.
Overall, this isn't a bad video, but this guy should have looked up how to pronounce these things before he made the video. He seems to add extra A's to words or emphasize the wrong syllable or straight up mispronounce things. Milawaukee? (Mil-wok-ee), Bridge Grooms? (Bridegrooms; as in Bride and Groom), Super Baz? (Superb Uz), Miny in apolis? (Mini-Apolis).
Thanks for the constructive criticism, you're right. I'm from Canada and I thought I was pronouncing the states correctly, I should've looked into the names. No excuses for bridegrooms, I just read it wrong off my document unfortunately.
@@BottomoftheInning No problem. 😀
@@BottomoftheInningdon’t worry about it, the video is awesome.
@@capybara-penguin No it's not. He's all over the place.
11:55 you wrote 1990s, but you said at 1900s
Ya, its supposed to be 1900s. Editing mistake. This video was so long and had so much stuff, it seems some small stuff was missed while reviewing unfortunately.
@@BottomoftheInning that’s fair, this video is very well-made video. I will say that the Yankees organization and baseball historians themselves have repeatedly stated that the Baltimore Orioles team from that era has no real connection to the New York Yankees besides maybe the ownership situation. Other than that, they are completely separate clubs.
My uncle played for the expos
I can’t take him seriously when he says Milwaukee
It's pronounced MIL-Waulkee NOT MiLA-WAULKEE.... Like where are you from?
Canada lol, we're not educated up here.
@@BottomoftheInning actually now that I think about it. I think you're actually pronouncing it correctly 😂 just no one here annunciates all the syllables like you're supposed to. You're educated. We're lazy lol
It's not pronounced MIL -Waulkee either. The accent is on the 2nd syllable Mil-WAU-kee and they didn't play in Milla waukee Country stadium either
@@joshuajay471 What do you mean all of the syllables? That would imply there's actually an "a" between the two consonants (like the argument of how to pronounce "caramel"), but there isn't.
The Blue Jays were named after labatt's brewery not the bird just saying
He mentioned that theory.
why is every team in alphabetical order by location in the thumbnail except for the nationals 💀
Yo, Everyone!
If Dodgers is an odd name for an LA team, how about Lakers?
That’s because they moved from Minneapolis, Minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes
@@aaronpod31097 I know that. The point was that Dodgers is relevant to Brooklyn, not LA, and the same goes for Lakers.
The clippers in Los Angeles LA is not known for its port the way San Diego is lol
The Utah Jazz have the same issue. It was a great name when they were in New Orleans but not so much in Salt Lake City.
@@Compucles That is the best example.
