My cheeks are hurting I smiled so much during this video. You are one special human being Pete. Those kids are lucky to have you in their life. What a great video and thank you so much for sharing.
Has to be my favorite video of yours to date, Pete. Watching the kids and seeing those smiles was just awesome. I love the adventurous spirit and the encouragement you give to everyone.
Awesome, Pete! We take things for granted everyday. I had never really thought about how hard kayaking would be without hearing. When you would cut to those clips from her vantage point, it was startling for me. Mercy Ann did an awesome job! She is awesome. I enjoyed the entire video, but especially her portions.
This video definitely makes me appreciate the many things that I take for granted. As always, it's great to see the next generation developing a love for the outdoors and all the adventures to find on the river.
A good day on the river with family and friends. A whole lot of learning going on as well and looked like everyone enjoyed the day! Thanks for sharing!
I love that you're taking the young kids out. I wish someone had taught me these things when I was a kid. This looks like so much fun but I'm already grown and set in my fear. I have nightmares about drowning.
I bet your niece loved it. It's very different with no sound wow! Great experience. Nice pictures too. I always learn something watching your videos. Cheers
beautiful video bro! your the heart of this kayaking stuff and its contagious to watch. Keep leading and pushing with your heart and we will all follow, loved it!
Pete, I just sat down and watched this in it's entirety. This tugs my heart, because i'm deaf as well, moderately/severe. I can still hear the rushing of water but conversation at more than a couple feet away is pointless without aids. Cutting the audio to really show how someone completely deaf perceives things was wonderful. It also helps other paddlers understand a little better what us deaf people go through. I've paddled with people that don't seem to understand this and get frustrated dealing with communication issues. I make it a point to explain this when paddling with someone new. i'm done rambling on now :P
Great video Pete. As I've said before, you're a great guy. I hope one day I can get my son on the water. He's extremely autistic. I'm worried it'd be a sensory overload for him.
thanks Andrew!! All you can do is try? I wish I had more experience with that. Perhaps it will be just the thing for him. Let me know how it goes. That would be awesome for you two!
Awesome video! Pretty cool for your niece to have the nerve to go for a fun ride like that and also have people like you around that can make that happen. I've sometimes wondered if the noise of all the water splashing and flowing around you in a rapid might make you tense up a little more than if it were more muted?
Awesome channel! Just getting into it and so far I’ve learned a number of tricks from your videos. Really appreciate the thoughtful perspective in this one!!
It's been a while since I've watched one of your videos, I always enjoy them. I just got back out on lake Erie in Ohio. Enjoying the water and rivers by me. There are not to many white water areas by me, but the lake can get pretty rough. To cut to the chase, your videos make me want to try white water. I kayak a 18' sea kayak, so I would have to get another boat. I was thinking about a creeker. I wonder how well my skills on lake Erie would carry over to white water paddling. You've coached people. How do people like me generally do when going from open water to white water. I trust your knowledge
I think you will do fine! It is a lot more dynamic and input centric. Having paddled all kinds of boats, going from ww to anything else is the easiest, but you should be just fine!
Does the length of the kayak make it less responsive on white water ? Seems like a 12 or 15' kayak would ride more rigid and less responsive in turbulent water ?
Yes, the instinct is to drop your feet and try to slow yourself down and gain control off the river bottom. However, one should Never do that in current. A foot entrapment is a very real possibility when doing that. Your foot will go down between two rocks, wedge on a rock in front and behind the foot and the current will lock you there submerging the rest of the body. Always keep your feet at the surface until the current subsides. When in an eddy or in manageable current, then stand up.

Thanks Stumpy!

Thanks Brad!

This one’s pretty special…really love the sections with your niece and your daughter. Pete is slaying that whitewater! Must be something in the genes.
Thanks Austin! I guess he got all his good looks and skills from me...because his mom still has all hers! LOL! It is so fun to watch him eat it up!
Try this on New River, a wild ride for sure!!!!!
River Royalty. Great stuff! Kevin is looking good too.
Thanks DD! Kevin is really doing well!
Great Video!
Thanks Michael!
You seem to have good coaching skills, I enjoyed the video. It is inviting to try to paddle white water
Thanks Kayasper! I try! Whitewater is the top of the food chain in kayaking. There is nothing more fun that I have found!

God bless you happy holidays!!$$

Thanks Isac!
Very cool idea how you filmed that.
Thanks Joe!! I love my niece and wanted others to experience it the way she did...
The best whitewater kayaker in the world is deaf, Dane Jackson.
Also, is this the North Fork of the Mayo?
Correct. And correct!
Does the length of the kayak make it less responsive on white water ? Seems like a 12 or 15' kayak would ride more rigid and less responsive in turbulent water ?
Length will invariably lessen your maneuverability. I can aid in bridging holes though. Kind of a tradeoff I guess.
Now this one is gonna be good. I e thought about a tandem with Amelia, but i just dont know....
With a smaller person, its not bad. When the partner is the same size, can be exciting...and not always in a good way! LOL
👍👍👍
Thanks C W!
Gaaahhhh I wanna run that rapid in my montour 11
he he!
I need some ww training though. I've only ever done class ii tops here in the Ozarks
Are you telling them to raise their feet to keep from getting hung in a rock?
Yes, the instinct is to drop your feet and try to slow yourself down and gain control off the river bottom. However, one should Never do that in current.
