Enjoyed how supportive, patient and encouraging you were with your kids, as well as everyone! You are a natural born instructor! Thanks for sharing your day out on the water. :) :)
Another great video. You're doing a great job. Not only are your videos some of the most informative content out there for whitewater yakkers trying to bring up their skill level, they are always so positive and uplifting. You are a fantastic ambassador for the sport.
Thanks Mike!! I really appreciate that! We try hard to keep it real, but focus on what brings us back to these rivers time and again! Thanks for the kind words!
You do such an outstanding job coaching and encouraging your kids. I love to show your videos to my grandson we are only beginners but love kayaking. My grand daughter loving her kayak too I can't wait to show them this video.
Thanks Carla! We were all kids once! I can still remember every influential coach/teacher that really encouraged me as a kid! It is so important! Enjoy that river time with the grand daughter!!
That smile on her face after finally getting her courage back is nothing you could buy for all the money in the world. Best motivation you could give when she was ready to quit! At 28.18 min she's going with ease, like she never did something else.
Yesterday a friend and I had our first experiences in a nice little (i.e. safe) rapid with a wave and good current. Tried surfing and ferrying and all that stuff, swam a few times. On the way down the river I remembered your words and we tried to catch every eddy, hit every little wave... we had a lot of fun and nature was amazing. Thanks for your awesome videos. I learned a lot and enjoy each and every single one. Best wishes from Germany
Thanks a ton Der Möp! It is humbling to think that some fine folks all the way over in Germany are getting something from the videos! That is so awesome!! It is good to hear you guys are going for it and making the most of the runs you get. I am honored to be at least a small part of your venture into kayaking! It only gets better from here!!! Enjoy and it is good to have you on board!!
I LOVE IT! She reminds me of my oldest daughter. Scared to do something, especially if something happens, but soon after, when she keeps at it, she's doing it and doing it well.
Another great video! We had an identical incident at a put-in recently with our 7 y/o. Glad to see your daughter recovered with a smile on her face. Well done Dad!
My 9year old was the exact same way... Until we flipped the raft on our first drop of our first ever whitewater experience down the Chattahoochee... From there on we all fell in love with whitewater. I'm sure that's gonna be me when we transition to kayaking, towing the kids, but that's being a Dad lol And you nail it!
After watching the videos for a year.I have learned a lot from you.I want to say thanks. We had 11 boats in the water yesterday and only 1 swimmer.I tried telling them the to go but they didn't listen so all in all great time 👍GREENBRIER RIVER the only river
With my kids being grown-up I know these times that you are staying with your kids on the Walter will be memories that will be a process for you in the future
I watched the videos where you spent time helping Pete get his chops worked up to the river the first time. And now with your daughter. So great you spend time with your kids and help them to enjoy such a great sport! They will never forget the love and care you show for them. I will be in the Mills River/Asheville area in late August. I have been spending some time on lakes, and did our first light rapid creek in Indiana. I am interested at some point in getting into a River like this one. I have a Stratos 14.5. Probably not the greatest for playing in the rapids, but it is a good place for me to start. What are the chances to connect and do a river like this one with you guys?
Hey been enjoying your channel. Live in tx and have seen you via gatewood brown. In caswell county visiting family and looking to do the haw from glencoe to red slide, looks like the river is at 2.5 feet and 290 cfs, would you suggest making the run? Thank you sir!
If could ask, is Ryan in the Remix 47? We have grandkids 8 and 5 we’re introducing to the sport, would this be a good beginner boat for their ages? Also how long would they be able to use them, at $800 a pop we’d want to hopefully get several years out of them. If you have any recommendations for beginner boats I would love to hear? Love your videos, my wife and I are in our first year at 50 😂 only regretting that we didn’t find kayaking way sooner. Thanks in advance for any advice on kid boats you’re able to give.
Hey Howie! Thanks for the kind words!! As for Ryan's boat, it is a remix 47. At 8 and 5 you will have years of use left in a remix 47. P5 is still using his this season at 13 yrs old. The remixs will support a paddler up to about 120 lbs...It is hands down the best kids platform I have found.
@@RiverKingsKayak I got that, but it seemed to stay loud and after turning down the sound so that it wasn't uncomfortably loud, I couldn't hear anything said.
awesome! your daughter is brave! just an idea.. it would be cool if u had P5 or someone else filming u paddle to get a different perspective on your technique. I am confused on which way to lean.. especially in the Eddie line where I flipped last time
Thanks patchmcq! It would...I have just been lazy about that...I will get some other footage perspective. Know the meantime, here is a video where you can see some of that.
How far is he from Nashville? My niece wants to use her mother's (my sister's) old Prijon spud, but in the years since my sister died, the mice have chewed a hole in it. If he's close to Nashville and isn't too expensive, it might just be the thing for her. She's just starting out and at the present time can't afford a brand new boat. I think there's a little sentimental attachment to it also. I'd also like to give her or her husband my old T-Slalom and my fiberglass Phoenix touring boat if they want them. The Phoenix doesn't need any help at all. I don't know what condition the T-Slalom is in. They've all been stored away for along time in a my parent's garage in Colorado, hence the mouse problem.
I feel her!!!! I totally swam at the S-turn at the Cartecay yesterday!!!! I could not pull my skirt off (way too tight) had to pull myself out of my tunnel!!! After seeing my video I was under the water for about a minute. I am a little gun shy now!!!!
I saw that! Just jump right back in and don't think about it. But before you do spend a little time doing wet exit drills and make sure you're comfortable with that skirt or that you get a new one that allow you to exit more freely... Just think of it as an awesome story later. No one's gonna want to listen to anyone else's story from that day. Lol! You gotta just get right back In and have some fun
We love you ,Rian!! Shes showing up a Lotta you big boys!! Watch out!! Lol. Was she paddling with her implant this time? Was worried for her when she rang the bell up front .
Thanks Clayton! However, I believe you are thinking of my niece, MercyAnne, with the implant. I was worried too! I thought she may want to pack it in for the day...but she rallied for the win!
I used to hate it when my dad would say stop crying and then tell me I'm fine. Caused me to learn suppressing emotions. No judgement at all as obviously you just care for her but why not let her cry it out and feel what she was feeling. Crying is good for you. I'd be scared too. I also wouldn't want to be filmed if I was having an emotional epidsode. Kind of traumatic
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Sounds like you had a great dad! If it is abject fear we are talking about, yes, you need to suppress that. Fear cripples people. Control that fear and keep moving forward...or sometimes don't, but always make sound decisions without the crippling effects of uncontrolled fear.

Nothing like a bond with dad and daughter.

Why does the music get so very loud at 5:40 in?
I wanted louder music at that moment to convey the emotion of overcoming the fear...I guess it is not working for you...LOL!
