180r vs Geo 5 vs CS3🎉🎉🎉 I'm fully convinced the 180r is King
I plan on using my 180r for the next 5 years or longer. Absolutely no need to get anything else as it performs just as good as any other marker on the market without dropping nearly 2k for it brand new

I shot one of these R5s.
While im not huge on the hype that goes on with markers, i must say, this thing shot like BUTTER!! It had a signature that reminds me of a dsr+.
Super smooth, soft, and quiet. It had me speechless.
The GR core is just an updated IV core. Still vents to fire, still has an SFR, etc...looks like they took some design cues from the Dye DSR+.
If we are calling the OP core in the CS3 a Gamma, we can call the GR core an IV.
Makes sense that it looks a lot like the CS3, they have a lot of part commonalities. Grip frame, ASA, etc...
I don't hate it though! Now I wonder what private label versions are going to come out....
Also, I am just calling these a Geo 5....R5 just trips me up.
Moving the sfr adjustment into the grip definitely cleans up the frame, I know some people like being able to adjust it on the fly, though. Granted, it only takes a few seconds to remove the grips.
I just bought a 180R and it’s great! And it’s still similar to the “highest” end PE guns.
Yeah dude I’ve shot one since release. I’ve shot lv2s and cs3s. Seeing this video made me even happier that I bought the 180 and not bs like this R5. My gun shoots ropes and is so soft shooting
It's the best gun on the market if you include price , it's has all the features of CS 3 except tooless grips (who cares ) for like $600 less . The only thing mid about the so call " mid " tier guns is price the performance is equal to the high end guns .

Hating on options, even if they're over your budget, is so ignorant. The 180R is an amazing marker at its pricepoint, just as the 170R and 160R were before it. And similarly to your argument, you can go and buy a used marker for less than half the price of a new 180R that will perform just as well as it does. That doesn't make the 180R BS.
If PE didn't produce "BS", they likely would've gone out of business years ago. This is a tiny industry with a shrinking player base and profits. Companies have to utilize what many view as "boring" or "repetitive" strategies in order to remain afloat and profitable. So, why is the R5 BS?

5:55 drivetrain is term you looking for for bolt cores.
The only thing you can do is change milling and body style with guns , the evolution of paintball has peaked, you have all the features you could ever need and there isn't really anything to improve on. Im ok with it because guns just work now and have everything, especially planet guns
Hot take: there's plenty to improve on, but the market has shrunk so it's not worth the RnD to do anything radical.
@@vijilant I honestly can't think of a single thing that could be done that would make me say " wow that's crazy " .....air efficiency is great no need to really improve unless it gets me a extra 500 shots per fill and as far as features are concerned what else could you need that a gun like the CS3 or Luxe idol doesn't have ? It's basically make a cool body and nice feeling gun at this point
And I'm over here still perfectly content with my Gmek from, like, 2018.
I guess companies should have just stopped design/manufacturing in 2018 then, right?

I was actually trying to give PE some praise. I was an Automag guy from the late 90s until I got my Gmek. They built a marker that's so nice to shoot that I've basically abandoned my other markers, and am still more than happy with it 6 years later.
@@dopemopey no argument there. PE initiated their "modern architecture" a couple years prior in 2016 with the CS1. They've only pushed out excellent products since.

I think after the release of the CS1, Planet has been in an identity crisis with their high-end Spool. Especially since people are still shooting their IV Core 3.5s to this day.
The players on Leverage shoot everything from the Geo 3 with IV core to the CS3 and everything in between.
@damianculley67, the release of the CS1 introduced PE's modern architecture and design strategy, which they haven't strayed from. This is a good thing, not a crisis.
Exactly, as someone who's been in and out of paintball the past 10 years (been playing over 20), I never understood why they even introduced the CS line. Now they have made it even more confusing by continuing the Geo line and CS line with not much difference.

I'm mixed on it. I own a Geo4 and think the 4 looks so much better milling wise. I also don't like the name, just call it the Geo 5 and roll with it. The colors are kinda meh too. Price is far too close to the top dog CS3. I would have liked to have seen this down around 1500 or even 1499 just to say they were lower. I have seen so many reviews of it now but I am still on the fence here. Like meh?
Gr Core was developed in partnership with Toyota and Gazoo Racing. It just wants to go fast give it a break!

Outside of midnight having to exist, I completely agree with this. This is the fairest PE criticism I've seen in all of these comments.
The PE CS3 and R5 situation is similar to the Dye M3+ vs. the Dye DLS. PE want to have a reliable flagship (CS3) and additionally this other product with a USP that is just abstract enough to make people curious and get it (R5). Didn’t work for Dye the DLS, but I trust PE not to make the same mistakes as Dye.
Also, it’s another 2000€ marker that people can buy as a third backup.. just in case..
The DLS was a soup cannon they sold out immediately.

@Nein.. I don't really agree, and I worked very closely with the DLS project. I could write a book but to keep it short and sweet, the DLS was a limited edition passion project between John Chambers (Dye's engineer behind the M3 and DSR) and Ryan Kenaley (Lurker) to bring the unique concepts introduced by the Paragon into production. Both of these cats are highly intelligent beasts of engineers (I'm saying that as an engineer, myself) with incredible resumes...the DLS was not designed by some idiot in his mom's basement like so many seem to think. It was a big, painful lesson in design, respecting the design intent throughout the manufacturing process and field beta and validation testing. PE does this better than *anyone* in the industry. Thanks to a number of errors that resulted primarily due to miscommunication between design and manufacturing, the DLS released with a few separate issues that combined to create a major issue - poor paint handling. The DLS also uses multiple concepts that have NEVER been used in paintball.
The Geo R5, on the other hand, uses known, proven concepts and parts, is not a limited edition marker, and went through heavy field testing even though it didn't really need to (refer back to using known, proven concepts and parts).
In terms of pricing and product placement, it makes perfect sense from a business perspective. Utilize parts commonality (economies of scale), known concepts and provide enough changes/improvements over the previous iteration to give the high end buyer a choice between two excellent products, just different enough (I appreciate the "abstract" portion of your comment) to likely result in him purchasing both. Two things are true: 1) This is an excellent product that will sell very well and 2) The ignorant people in this industry will bitch about its existence, price, and similarities to the CS3.

I'm loving the look. And the eye update is much needed puts it on par with those cs guns. No mech frame is a serious bummer. I won't be selling my geo 4 thats for sure.
Mech-ing an IV Core would require a more complex mech valve and would offer no advantage over the existing mechanical options. It makes all the sense in the world not to do this.

Man I really like Planet Eclipse but all of their markers look the same the past 3 years it's the same marker ! Everyone save your money get the Etha 3 it's the same marker for less. That marker is so underrated it's not funny. Get that an a barrel kit and your set.

It's like they took mixed the shocker frame with the cs3 grips. I like the look of the R5 better the the cs3. Because it's more slim and stream line.

Aside from the long awaited LV2 everything the last 5 years from eclipse is just 🥱 boring and lame it's becoming like taco bell it's all the same just named different. And I say this as huge P.E fan

New markers really dont change much these days and only out preform the mid range markers by a small amount. Some people like expensive toys though
