For those who have been in paintball for 20+ years its so bittersweet. We watched paintball grow and grow so big. Then 2008-2009 came around and the sport tanked. I remember World Cup being at Disney's Wide World of Sports!
Paintball was dying before 2008. It might have taken that long for tournament paintball to take a hit, but stores were going out of business left and right in 2006. The fields I played at starting having airball fields, since that was taking over.
Major League Wiffle Ball has a better chance at an HB event. They don't leave a mess. Their players are regular people. They aren't promoting some weird cult like selfless effort BS.
Paintball on TV has always been difficult, for the simple fact that it’s hard to get everything on screen for a live event. Even the live event streams really aren’t that good, unless you play the game and understand it.
Blind multiple layouts. Up the rof. Adapt a point system and split deck so its not 1 and done for 8 prelim games. Bring back playing above and below 2 divisions. Limit to 4 pods and force movement. Find someone that designs layouts that create car crashes.
One thing ive noticed from a production standpoint that could make the experience more engaging. They need to require players to wear camera's. On their helmets or their guns, couple each shot with what the player is seeing or shooting at. There is so much they can and should do to make this a hit. Edit: didnt finish the video when i was commenting, you mentioned this! SO nevermind.
The last time paintball was on TV was in 2015 when the NCPA was still on CBS Sports. This tho will be the first time that pro paintball in the US has been on TV since 2011. To me the fact that this is happening is so huge and such a great thing to further the legitimization of the sport of Paintball! I’ll be at a bar somewhere getting them to put ESPN2 on at 1am haha🍻
Only took them forever, but finally. Mainstreaming paintball should have been on TV for a long time now. It's sad it took until the end of time to get them to finally do it.
Oh man, that'll be a good one to play side by side. What has paintball evolved from b-roll clips won't be good for ESPN to show. You'll get casuals asking what that cool looking event was and why don't they play like that anymore.
Double triggers allowed, no paint limit, make it a hose fest that looks fun for casuals. The recent irl combat footage people have been watching affects how they'd approach paintball for the first time. I mean go back to 2001-2002 footage and you'll hear dudes yell "loading" like they watched Black Hawk Down the night before.
the most unwatchable hard to follow version of paintball gets the sports 4th or 5th go at ESPN. gonna go out on a limb here and say 1 season then cancelled. So sick of the idea that the sport needs TV.
I want the slowest, most methidcal, paint stingy teams to make the ESPN finals. If the suggestion to play like its 20 years ago hasn't been made, id be surprised. Its gladiator time, maybe one last time. Big point differentials, crowd pleasing moves, and lots of gun fighting. There will be any of the usual slow, bunker hugging, lane focused teams chopping up grandstand plays in the most boring way possible. Nightmare scenario is the Russians are featured prominently in the semis and finals. That'll cause outside sponsorship problems paintball doesnt want to acknowledge. Seeing as how Russia is an embargoed pariah country where every Western corp has pulled out of.
Mehhh. Post production is a good idea, definitely. Barrel cams, sure, that's obvious though. But it's still just regular team deathmatch over and over. The basic game design is too one dimensional to be a properly watchable sport and always has been.
Sad thing, TDM is dead and BR has been a thing for a decade driving streaming. Also they needed an experienced outdoor sports company like Bang Bus or Team Skeet to help them out. People wanna see carnage, mayhem, muggings, drive bys, and people taking it to the face howling.
I don't support it. I feel like a hard pill for paintballers to swallow is the fact that nobody in the mainstream gives a shit about paintball. I also noticed people claiming we should stop swearing in the pits to grow the sport. I disagree because extreme sports participants have always used that dialect of English that uses profanity as regular language. Think skaters, surfers, stoners, etc. Going mainstream will kill the culture. Right now it's perfect and I wouldn't grow it a millimeter because underground with culture is better than commercialized with wokeness.

"Effin' A, cotton. EFFIN' A!"
I’m curious what the footage will entail. Maybe some new camera angles etc.

Will only US ESPN air it? Or will it also be shown on ESPN in other countries, such as Brazil, Europe, etc.?
We need more free content of pro games on YT before the ocho
Maybe do cap the flag in the woods, mech only, limited paint. Body cams, shot cams, and drones

we tried this once b4 didnt work out then. very doubtful it will last.
I agree, also who really watches “TV” anymore?
Wtf in ESPN Ocho? Never heard of it. Gotta get the views for paintball so they can bring it to mainstream
If you stream your TV just get sling it has every channel with live footage as well as movies it has it all the channel is called SLING
Could just stream off devices direct to tv. Otherwise use Apple TV or Chromecast. We have been in a post broadcast tv focused world for a long time.

At least this time they can have more than that stupid Smart Parts animated ad play 12x an hour.
@@somebrains5431 that was BRUTAL
Make paintball great again.

I hate airball, dumbest sport known to man
I would rather have an NXL motorcycle

Go look at the view counts for Major League Wiffleball. Its a real thing. Im seeing kids play it again in parks after school.
Paintball should rebrand to the premiere LGBTQ+ hobby.
