I took my daughter to a tiny stream here in the Ozarks that my grandpa used to take me to. I've seen so many of these big browns eat Sculpin...so I smashed down the barb on a Dark Sleeper and had her dragging it through pools. She ended up hooking a 27inch Cutthroat! I was floored. I thought it was a brown at first, but I've seen many browns that big and much bigger here. When I saw the little spots and it clicked what it was I couldn't believe it! My 10 yr old tiny little girl caught the biggest Cutthroat I've ever seen!
I always love talking to you guys in the shop. Just walking up and down the stream for miles is just amazing.

Well done gentlemen! Glad to see some more focus on trout fishing and all the great lures that we use to catch them. These baits from Japan are incredible. I've been trout fishing for many years and the addition of the baits mentioned in the video have really added a new layer of fun for me in the last few years and it appears for you guys as well. I've gone to strictly using bfs equipment because of the fun factor. It's an addiction to say the least. I've found bfs equipment allows me more opportunities on light line. I'm typically running 4lb flouro or 3 to 4lb mono from Varvias. I like the sight edition and twitch master that they make. Braid wise the Varivas Double Cross PE in 9.6lbs has been my favorite. It's easy to work and tie knots. I've caught many fish this spring and summer in the 20 to 30inch range. Trout of that size on light equipment is just epic! Great stuff from you guys, looking forward to the next vid.

The Duo Spearhead Ryuki Vibe has been really good to me too, especially in lakes. Lots of big fish have nailed it.
Where I fish for trout, there's a section of the "catch and release" river reserved just for fly fishermen or artificial lures only. I've gotten a lot of dirty looks from fly fishermen, I even got reported to the DFG after a small dispute between a fly and a lure. The game warrant showed up, he said I was smart to switch the treble hooks to single barbless hooks to make it legal to fish the area. We all fish freshwater rivers/streams, but there's salty fly fishermen out there. Maybe I was the one getting all the actions...
Fly fishermen are a special breed. We can learn a lot from them, but they're usually just elitists sadly.

I’m a 15 year old fly fishermen, been doing it for 6 years and sadly there are a lot of angry old men like the ones u described and I apologise on their behalf…I can’t seem to understand the hate that fly fishermen give to lure fishermen and I’m rlly sry for that…maybe you’ll c past that one day and pick up the fly rod- stay fishy bro 😎
@@habibyali8697 Thanx for your concern bud. I used to fly fish this exact same location. It's just all about preference and situation of the day. Fly fishing has become too much time consuming, and too slow of a pace for my taste. JDM lures and gear products are a game changer when I discovered the techniques a long time ago. I got some hateful words but gotten more great compliments from great people. They said they've never seen such lures and how effective it is, I told them exactly why it is... I'd tell them it's because the trout too, has never seen such lures before, lol. Give it a try, it might just change your perspective...
Oh ya nc fly guys are real snobs even the map book by local hunter banks take jabs at everyone in the water except fly guys. I’m bfs single hook hard core . Nothing like the big trout rolling on a lure . That’s my experience with fly fisherman that’s why I quit and went bfs all the way years ago . The crowd sux

I started using some of these same small JDM baits from Hookup Tackle on late Summer low clear water river fishing for Smallmouth in Virginia and Pennsylvania. Absolutely deadly!

The Orochi XX Whipsnake is also a good rod for bigger streams and rivers that I'd throw on suspending jerkbaits for big browns and rainbows. But my all favorite rod for this type of fishing is Tenruy Rayz Spectra 53LML, this a one do it all rod from the little d-contacts to the mid-size lc pointers and jackson artists.

Alright so I’m intrigued by the Whippet. I’m looking for a medium light that excels at the hard baits listed here up to the 110 JR, maybe even the 110 in a pinch (which I tend to go lighter on jerkbait spin rods anyway). I wanted to know if this one had good cross over with any particular bass techniques. Any particular panfish baits this one could also do well with. Thinking a somewhat multispecies rod that excels at trout hard baits around small to medium-largish rivers is what I’m after.
Got my megabass Lavante whipsnake. It’s so lite can not believe it. Will be upgrading my rods to megabass, I use do tons rods now. Thanks for your rod reviews Ben and Griff

Great video & content my go to is the Tsurinoya 50 mm 5g sinking minnow it's like crack for trout & makes the fly fisherman around me cry!😂
Just because CJ said salmon: I'm doing good in 120 - 160 ft of water. Thermocline is currently around 90 - 100 ft. Getting fish with the Dreamweaver A-bomb & Moonshine RV green knight spoon. The deepest downrigger is doing great with a Spindoctor Kevin's girlfriend w/ a KRW fly (24" leader). 300 Copper is my favorite on the ninja board. Almost time to bring out the silver horde and j-plugs. Great video guys. I totally agree with 8 - 10 lb fluoro leader and upgrading hooks. The bigger the brown, the harder their mouth is. You also need a strong enough rod to get a good hook set. I got an O.G. Daiwa Pixy 6'6" ML fast rod that is amazing for small jerkbaits. Sold a Daiwa Presso 6'2" ML casting rod that worked great with Smith D-contacts. I still want to try out a Tenryu Rayz Spectra RZS51LL-BC or Rayz Variable-Hounder. Keep the videos coming!

Would you feel confident fight a larger size fish (18-20+) on the kamloops? Or is there another multi piece rod that would work better? I have been thinking of buying the kamloops for quite awhile for here in AZ but also when I go to Colorado every year. Up there I get into some large fish but in some back water so multi piece is a must. Thanks for all the great info!
It's more about what you'll have to pull the fish out of and how heavy of line. The rod has plenty of power for fighting the fish, but it's fully parabolic so won't have a lot of stopping power for heavier current and snags. That said, it's a super fun rod!
Another question. What size treble hooks do you swap to on the GH baits? Are they the same for the 45 and 50?

Very similar! And it's multi piece which is great when you need it. One of my favorite rods!
Great video. I've been looking for something in depth like this as I fish a similar style. Usually 22 lb braid to 8 lb mono and 85mm to 110 mm jerkbaits, Kage 2000 reel and Kage 7'7" rod.
Curious if you prefer floro to mono and why and what lb braid you like to fish?
Fluoro always as it will have the highest knot strength and abrasion resistance, and is the least visible to the fish. Usually 12-15lb braid.

What hooks do you recommend for replacement and do you sell them?
I love the BFS left hand crank reel; IMO that's where it's at. Anyone who is right handed and carries weak side know the disadvantage of the hand off across or the time it takes. Yahoo and Plus One on that one.
Love the focus on big trout! Az has some very big Browns, just have to know where to catch them. What split rigs do you recommend to switch out the stock rings?
Small Owner or Ryugi spilts are good!
Been using lures such as duo spearhead ryuki and Smith D contact since 2017...
They absolutely work casting upstream and twitching it back quickly, you reel in faster than the current and twitch!
I've had 2 x 6lbs wild brownies on these lures now.
They have become rather expensive though and my rivers are very snaggy, so I'm looking for alternatives.

the Rapala countdown elite is a great alternative still not the cheapest bait but a couple dollars cheaper but very similar in action and performance.

In my view it needs to be slimmer with flatter sides.
It doesn't dig in like the D and Ryuki.
The rivers i trout fish are often 20 to 40 yards wide, and the deep pools can be a long cast away, to get the lure to the head of the run and swim it down deep enough requires a compact sinking lure, the rapala i think is better in lesser current, but even then I didn't fall in love with them.
Major Craft eden lures are quite good, had some nice brownies on them, but they are too light for some spots where I target the larger fish.
But anyway, I lost my last D about 3 weeks ago...
I have found a spot with barbel into doubles and there are trout there that are surely 8 or even 10lbs... really. I lost one last week fishing for the barbel.
Just lost the hook hold, it was HEAVY and low...and i have seen the size of some in this hole.
I'll be back... but I don't think I should use my 3 to 12g rod... not in the current.
I think I'll use my 10-30g bass rod, there are lots of obstructions and I need to be able to control the fish, if I let it run too much I'll get cut off.
Lure will be Ryuki around 10 grams.

This Baits are really famous in Europe, specally in france, they have great Rivers full with nice and Big Browntrouts and like in Germany!

THUP, if you get a chance, it would be really nice to get some more guidance on the hardware upgrades. Specifically, options for single and/or barbless hooks. A lot of the trout water I fish is regulated to barbless. I tried the Owner Cultivas and they shake the hook way too often.
Ok 👍. The ValkeIN single hooks are a good replacement option!

I recommend the BKK native series since they are meant for trout and treble hook replacement

This video couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ll be spending the next couple of days trout fishing in the Eastern Sierras in California. The Great Hunting Humpback has been my bait of confidence for trout lately. I’ve been curious about throwing baits out of the ordinary for trout fishing. You guys mentioned trout feeding on crayfish in the video. Is there a particular bait you might throw at a trout that would imitate a crayfish? 🤔

So we'll throw the same style baits, but fish them more on the bottom. This is where the Ima and Duo seem to outproduce the Great Hunting for us. You can also use tine finesse jigs and plastics for trout.
@@gabrielmolina5185 go with the smallest one, the 3 inch. And for the way to rig it go with the Neko Rig. Since rivers/ streams are generally rocky it greatly reduces it from getting snagged and imitates a fleeing craw perfectly. For color, stick with your naturals like greens, black, browns. Hell, even really off colors like the ones made for saltwater slay em.

Think you guys are looking at Florida the wrong way. This type of fishing is great in Florida because we have the best trout. We have saltwater speckled trout. They are awesome on light tackle and you fish them in skinny water on the flats.
