Wade, you are amazing! I am just starting out and have been wondering about these things but had no clue that there were requirements for the product label itself. You are truly providing candlemakers so much help & support! Thank you, thank, thank you! If there was a 'Candle Maker's School', you would be the one to teach it! I love your easy to digest content! ❤
Loved the video. Important details. Now what happens if customers burns candle like for 7to 8 hrs, if they don’t cut wicks and something happens we have no control of that.
Thank you! As a soap maker and now a candle maker, who sells mostly at fairs and markets, my biggest frustration is the labels. My undertsanting of Fair Label laws and standards has led me to put all required info on my labels. Then I see so many that don't. Even in boutiques. Which is why I love your comment that one fail can affect us all. I am interested in seeing you covering tealights and wax melts too. Again, thank you!
I thought there were standards on container temperature as well but this wasn't mentioned. Either way, I track the container temp with every burn (after 4 hrs), along with flame height, flicker, sooting and mushrooming.
I bless the day I found your chanel! I’ll like to request a follow up video pointing out all the points you made on a perfectly labelled candle vs a badly labeled one if possible. Thank you ❤
Thank you. One thing I cannot find, and I know it is not as major as with flame candles, labels for wax melts/bars/drops, etc requirements. I've made my own wording, based on other labels, but many I have seen use their "Candle" labels. Even some I got from a big brand was shrunken flame warnings. Maybe I am just missing something obvious, but this is an area I am lost in and worried.
Thanks so much! Wade!! I haven’t be around in long time. I always keep in mind about be simple on the amount of candles I have on my website and grow slowly as at soon I have control . My problem is that I actual have my full time job plus I do candles and time is a big fact . I just want to share this with you and the audience. I have pray about continue making candles vs just close the website and in 4 of July I sell a 2 big orders. I know is probably not a lot but for me was a big deal , and now I’m back to drive again, but in back of my mind I remember every video that you post and I’m very happy to be back in track. Ty again!!
Keep it simple. Go through the Playlist. Try to tackle small things t a time. The videos are meant to be references you can always go back to again later. :)
This is an extremely helpful video!! Thank you! If you could do a video covering tea lights, that would be fantastic!! I'm hoping to offer beeswax tea lights, and want to make sure I'm testing them appropriately.
Are you able to add “disclaimers” on your warning label? For example when you decorate candles with dried flowers/herbs. “Decoration purpose only, remove before lighting”
You are an absolutely great instructor teacher and I would love to get like Some on one ruction know whatever it cost I know it’s gonna cost something. I just think that you’re brand everything is phenomenal and would love to get some one on one with you
So glad I found your channel!! Your videos are just what I was looking for. Btw, I tried to sign up for your newsletter, but it says, "SMS is not activated." I have a question about using UV inhibitors, are there a specific types, or are they all basically the same? I went online and saw so many i got a bit overwhelmed. Lol!Thanks so much for sharing all this incredible information. Your content is extremely helpful, and you make it easy to understand!
Question, newbie here, haven’t started making candles yet. How should I reference lot numbers for candles I will make. I see the wax has a lot number and probably everything else we put in our candle. With all those lot numbers to keep up with. Do you have a spreadsheet to help keep lot numbers and your personal batch lot numbers organized? Hope this makes sense. Thanks
Great tips! Do you have a template suggestion for candle testing? I’ve tried creating my own but tend to never stick to them and end up with lots of scattered notes. Any suggestions on how to stay organized with testing notes?
Great information...Question about jar temps. I hear and read a lot about max jar temp can't reach higher than 140 or some say 175 degrees. Can you clarify this? The ASTM I purchased doesn't have anything about jar temps. Yet people claim this is an ASTM standard.
I’m curious as to how you test and record the safety of your candles. Do you test in batches? And if so how do you keep records of which candles sold are from which batches (in case you ever need to show this info)
I might have missed it, but does the ASTM say that the candle should be burned from start to finish or just the four hours? My sheet only has the four hours but I'm going way past that. I am working through the entire candle, and it is taking forever to get through 40+ hrs. lol I document every burn by the standard with varying timed burns including power burns. I'm actually learning a lot in this phase too. Thanks for your video, great as usual.
Thank you for all your helpful videos!! I was wondering if you have some advice for candle containers that are big, like to have 6 pound candles? I haven’t been able to find them. Thank you!!
Thank you so much for your content! I’m gonna rewatch video but am feeling unsure about my location information. On the the main label or on safety info label? Also, I am at home working on my candies. Don’t want my home info on my labels. What to do?
There actually isn't one contrary to belief. There are general recommendations that a lot of people have but there is no ASTM standard for it... even in the recently updated ones
Thanks for these tips! Question: when you say manufacturer/distributor, I hear people are pretty secretive of that so people don't copy them. Is that true, or is everyone required to say who plays a part in crafting their candle?
HI! Is there a place to sign up for consultation openings? Your site just says there are none available. Do I just check back daily? I'm going to open up a small candle business and would love your feedback. Thank you! Bobbie Jo Brison
A little confused about the weight of the candle. What is the net weight is different from each candle. So if I have labels made I would need many different labels. Do you just estimate? Or do you have a way to be sure all your weights are the same? Guessing you’re very accurate about your pours… or me yet.😊
You can either have different labels made or put your jars on a scale when pouring your candles to insure your candles are the exact weight every time. Hope this helps 😀💞
You should try to make them roughly the same. You can alter your recipes so that they end up being basically the same. Or just put the smallest net weight on your levels. If they range from 7.8oz to 8.1 just put 7.8 on all of them
so im a 15 year old making candles i cant find a good wax that doesnt look really weird after burning it like i burn the candle then theres holes and really bad seperation would that be from overheating i also melt use a little bit of waxx then let dry then keep doing that is that ok to do pls help me
In the video he reads the standard which says you are only required to put the label on the item that is presented during retail sale. So if you present your candles in a box during retail sale, then only the box is required, but you’re free to label both if you prefer.
Can you put visual examples, because you talk a lot (not saying it in a bad way) and I have no idea what you’re saying because I can’t see it. It easier if you give examples and show how it is supposed to be while you’re talking about it. Like you did with the candle warning label.
It's way past time to get the Bureaucracy OUT of government! Their only purpose is to SAP Every Bit of Enjoyment Out of LIFE. So much for candle-making.
Sorry. Hard to make content that appears to everyone. Sometimes I do introductions to help as some prefer easing in. Other videos I skip that. Just depends. But Sorry you didn't like it. All free content to help.
I could really use your help bro. I have poured my fragnance oil at 190-195 F and my oil evaporated like a lot. Added on 185 F and still evaporates a little bit. I use blend of paraffin and soy wax. Also at the bottom of melting tank I see small amount of oil that is not blended. Guys help me please I'm loosing my mind over here 😢😢😢 youtube.com/@BlackTieBarn

In Brasil, similar to the USA, we need warning labesls on the candle box and bottle. Thanks for the class
Thanks for watching!
This video is GOLD Thank you!
I thought there were standards on container temperature as well but this wasn't mentioned. Either way, I track the container temp with every burn (after 4 hrs), along with flame height, flicker, sooting and mushrooming.
The timing of this video is insane, Wade. I’m currently researching labels for my candle and just finished watching your previous videos on labeling 😅
I bless the day I found your chanel!
I’ll like to request a follow up video pointing out all the points you made on a perfectly labelled candle vs a badly labeled one if possible. Thank you ❤

I am so glad I found your Chanel , lots of great information for us beginners. I am a bit overwhelmed with all the information you provide.
Keep it simple. Go through the Playlist. Try to tackle small things t a time. The videos are meant to be references you can always go back to again later. :)
Been considering starting a candle company for a while and Just ordered all my equipment today 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Wade for going over this very important information for us all!
You read my mind- I was just looking up candle label requirements!
😁
This is an extremely helpful video!! Thank you! If you could do a video covering tea lights, that would be fantastic!! I'm hoping to offer beeswax tea lights, and want to make sure I'm testing them appropriately.
Valuable information and thanks for clearing up the product labeling.
Clever intro! 😀
As the date gets closer I am back at it again, rewatching! Lol
Wade, you rock! Thank you.
Are you able to add “disclaimers” on your warning label? For example when you decorate candles with dried flowers/herbs. “Decoration purpose only, remove before lighting”
Hey Wade👋👋! Another informative video, thanks. Do you still do candle reviews?
You are an absolutely great instructor teacher and I would love to get like Some on one ruction know whatever it cost I know it’s gonna cost something. I just think that you’re brand everything is phenomenal and would love to get some one on one with you
Are you testing one candle each batch? How often would someone do testing?

I Wade, I cannot sign up to your newsletter as I have UK based mobile phone number. Do you have anything for UK?

Can you give thoughts on testing outdoor candles ?
Great tips! Do you have a template suggestion for candle testing? I’ve tried creating my own but tend to never stick to them and end up with lots of scattered notes.
Any suggestions on how to stay organized with testing notes?

Can you make your testing sheet available for sale as a digital product?
I might have missed it, but does the ASTM say that the candle should be burned from start to finish or just the four hours? My sheet only has the four hours but I'm going way past that. Kinda a wierd question if making from home could you use a po box adress on label?

Hey Wade. What is the astm standard for how hot the outside of the jar can get? I've heard both 150 or 170.
There actually isn't one contrary to belief. There are general recommendations that a lot of people have but there is no ASTM standard for it... even in the recently updated ones
Great opening.
Did you have an outline for candle and wax melts and also roomsprays?
Thanks for these tips! Question: when you say manufacturer/distributor, I hear people are pretty secretive of that so people don't copy them. Is that true, or is everyone required to say who plays a part in crafting their candle?
Sorry.... not what goes into your products, but the manufacturer (i.e. you or whatever company is making your products for you If you are a retailer
@@BlackTieBarn Ah I see, thank you!
Very helpful, thanks so much!

Bobbie Jo Brison
Is there a warning labels for wax melts and candles candle?
Do I have to add my home address? I make candles from home and do not want to put my home address on the candle
This is a question I have also, but so far I don’t see it answered in the comments.
I think your town, state and country would suffice since it's your home.
What temperature should we consider too hot using an infared thermometer on the side of the jar.?
A little confused about the weight of the candle. What is the net weight is different from each candle. So if I have labels made I would need many different labels. Do you just estimate? Or do you have a way to be sure all your weights are the same? Guessing you’re very accurate about your pours… or me yet.😊

You just pick a weight. Buy 2 candles. You make you pick one of them. That's the closest wait
Can you please share some information on Gel candles please
so im a 15 year old making candles i cant find a good wax that doesnt look really weird after burning it like i burn the candle then theres holes and really bad seperation would that be from overheating i also melt use a little bit of waxx then let dry then keep doing that is that ok to do pls help me
So do we need to put the labels on both the box AND the candle jar, or just one or the other?
I'm doing both jars and pillars and I'm a little lost
In the video he reads the standard which says you are only required to put the label on the item that is presented during retail sale. So if you present your candles in a box during retail sale, then only the box is required, but you’re free to label both if you prefer.
I only make waxmelts can you give me information about that? Thanks
What about vessel temperature while burning? I try to keep mine in the 150 degrees or below.
I read in a comment that he responded there is no ASTM standard for that.
Thank you, thank you thank you
Thank you
Thank you! This is the last thing holding me back! I’ve been making my product at home. Do I use my actual home address 🫣 or could I use a PO Box?
When I buy a candle I go by fragrance. Why would the net weight and grams be important to someone?
Can you share images of a 10/10 perfect label that follows these rules?
And also gel candles
Can you put visual examples, because you talk a lot (not saying it in a bad way) and I have no idea what you’re saying because I can’t see it. It easier if you give examples and show how it is supposed to be while you’re talking about it. Like you did with the candle warning label.
It sounds like contradictory information about the weights.
It's way past time to get the Bureaucracy OUT of government! Their only purpose is to SAP Every Bit of Enjoyment Out of LIFE. So much for candle-making.
Hi just watching some of your videos on candle making and just wondering if i can use butchers twine for my wicks . Many thanks Ali

U need to mix it for minimum of 2 mins just so it can blend the wax with the Fragance oil
