Was in Vegas a few months ago... Our flight was canceled & the airline put us up in a hotel for the night.....it was the Southpoint. I always stay on the strip but after staying here, I would DEFINITELY stay here again. Buffet was great, hotel is nice, lots of food options. They also have a Bingo parlor (I won the $1000 coverall), bowling alley, lots of table games.
This is a great place to stay. 10/10.

The pork ribs are my favorite. I very much appreciate that the South Point owners re-opened the buffet as soon as they could during the pandemic. None of the other "local" casinos have re-opened theirs except for the Rampart. South Point deserves a lot of praise. 💖

When my former mother-in-law lived in Vegas, her neighbor would pick her up and they'd drive to South Point for the buffet lunch. They went everyday. That was their one meal for the day.

Vegas Buffets off strip Buffets used to be under $10 pre covid. South Point Buffet Lunch Price used to be $9.95 in 2018. I oddly wanted to move to Vegas in 2019 and then covid hit and inflation followed and home prices doubled. I think God was saying a big "NO!"

I am a local Nevadan from Reno, and we usually go to Vegas every year. We were so upset when the red rock buffet closed down and didn’t know about the announcement until we went to check it out back in September. But we instead went to the south point during brunch hours and it had some good variety, especially the carving station and desserts. We went on a Sunday, so they had a mimosa brunch special. Although I couldn’t drink due to being a minor, my parents did enjoy it and overall a decent local buffet being not too far from the strip.

I haven't been to Vegas since 92. Back then I'm not joking all food was dirt cheap. Most buffets were like $6. We spent more on breakfast at Mcdonalds then we did at nice buffets. We were getting lots of shrimp cocktails that were AWESOME and only 99cents. We got tons of free pop all day long. We stayed at the Imperial Palace on the strip and we walked all the way down to the ends and my feet for so blistered. Nothing but tennis shoes the next 3 days. LOL

Hard to go wrong at South Point. My wife and I have stayed there the last couple of times in Vegas and the buffet is pretty good. Don Vitos is good as well, as is the Silverado. Primarily Prime Rib is next on the list to try. Expectating a grrat experience.

    • @patr70
      @patr70 ปีที่แล้ว

Primarily Prime Rib is GROSS.. the food quality is pretty lousy. Silverado Steakhouse is MUCH better quality. I've stayed at Southpoint 8 times since 2012 and Know the restaurants well. The Japanese restaurant named Zenshin Asian is pretty good but a little pricey. Big Sur Oyster Bar/Seafood cafe is also good and has good clam chowder and Fish-n-Chips. The Del Mar Deli near the sportsbook is decent for sandwiches.

Looks like a solid value for a buffet. Have heard a lot of good about it. Great that they have some solid Mexican/Latin offerings along with the usual offerings. Some buffets tend to overlook my favorite part of the world. BTW my wife is of Mexican heritage and this is just something we love in addition to all the other offerings at a buffet. Hello Ruby, for the origin of *hushpuppies,* one story is that Confederate soldiers were preparing food around a campfire and heard Union soldiers in the vicinity, so they pitched their yelping dogs some fried cornmeal cakes and ordered them to « hush puppies. » Thanks for the review! ❤👍

I eat the South Point buffet about once a month. Only lunch. Thank you for going over the dinner menu. I agree. For the price they are one of the best buffets in town.
A few things you didn't know.
The station that made the Rueben's changes what they make each day.
I walk around the whole buffet before getting the Mongolian grille. Usually there are other veggies at the salad or other areas worth putting in the stir fry.
I asked a few months ago. They do NOT make most of their desserts [pies, cheesecake, brownies, cakes etc.]. They are almost all shipped in. You will also never see chocolate chip cookies at the dessert section for some weird unknown reason. I have not seen them there for over a decade.

It’s called the Tollhouse Curse. Before she passed, they served Mrs. Tollhouse a fish with a bone in it, and she cursed them that if they ever served one of ‘her’ cookies (she invented chocolate chip cookies in 39), the owner would die within the week! Well, who wants to even mess with a curse like that.

For people who don't care for catfish (like me), swai is a good fish to try. It's an Asian catfish and much milder. Trader Joe's used to sell a fish curry made with swai, which is how I discovered it. That was delicious. (Indian spicing tames catfish and lamb).
I've also had plain grille swai at California Fish Grill. Not bad, a nice change of pace. Worth trying. (You can order half swai and half another fish. Including American catfish.)

Good video. When does Mr Ruby get to eat ? Has he ever disagreed with anything you ate that you liked ?

I loved this buffet and the casino and hotel looked very nice. We stopped on our way out of Vegas and regretted not considering staying there

The SouthPoint does a lot of horse shows, rodeos etc. It has indoor arenas, two of them in fact. I am local, I visit often. About the food. It may be cheap, but it is not the best in flavor. Still very good deal if you know how to pick. The steak house is real good. One draw back. It is about five or six miles from center strip. You can get there by city bus. Lots of free, repeat free, parking.

When I go to a buffet, I go first to the seafood. I eat as many crab as I can. I'll actually do two plates of crabs with tons of lemon and drawn butter. Then, I'll move to the carving station and go for the Prime Rib. If there's other meat that looks interesting at the carving station, I'll give it a try. Some mashed potatoes for that starch. I never touch the Italian. I never touch anything Asian (because I'm Asian and I know I will be disappointed). I can't resist the pretty desserts at places like the Wynn. But they always disappoint. I used to really enjoy the buffets when they served King Crab but those days are long gone.

I've been saying the same thing. For the price, it's the best value now since the station casinos aren't bringing theirs back. The prime rib is my favorite by the way!

Your right I did not know that thanks.the first recorded use of the word "hush-puppy" dates to 1899.[4] The name has no verified origin. Etymology is attributed to a variety of sources. One claims, with little verification, that it came from hunters, fishermen, or other cooks who would fry some basic cornmeal mixture (possibly that they had been bread-coating or battering their own food with) and feed it to their dogs to "hush the puppies" during cook-outs or fish-fries

I almost always head to Southpoint for a brunch every time I'm in Vegas. They have a lot of good video poker games there too.

I'd prolly have me some disposable gloves when handling those serving tongs. Some people, don't know where there hands have been and they don't wash up.

You should've added the meat juice on the prime rib. Or maybe some gravy. Great video.

I’m dying to get down there for a week at South Point - Your info is Super Great and Helpful to hear right now!
How many HOURS were you SAMPLING there at the Buffet that day ? Seemed you went in while the Sun was up and then it got Dark out side LOL🎉. I was a day late to enter the Million Dollar Bingo Extravaganza for October. It’s coming again March 2023 so I think I’ll register this week end - but I need a Week preliminary RIGHT Now !!

If I have to drive all the way out here just to save money on a buffet, I might as well just play the slots while I'm out here.
