My adult son said “ Mom I’m tired of watching you get treated so badly. If you don’t kick your husband out I have no choice but to never come around. I’m not going to watch this.” After I got him out my son then said “you were like a zombie.” I’m living life now. I have the ones around that truly love me. Narcs like to keep you isolated. God got me out. Set me on solid ground. Is healing my heart. I pray for a peaceful spirit. I’m getting to the point I can’t really remember his face or voice. GO FULL NO CONTACT. And never look back!

My teen daughter would cry and beg me to leave. He was as abusive to her as he was to me ( behind my back). The guilt I feel for the futile trying wilk kill me forever.

I first found you through Focus on the Family and your book “I Don’t Want a Divorce.“ I soon discovered that the techniques in your book were not working for me, because my church pastors are not truly on board with helping me get a divorce, even though they believe me about the abuse, and my ex husband (we are separated now) is not interested in changing. The TH-cam algorithm suggested one of your videos to me, and now I’m binge-watching. You are SUCH a God-send, Dr. Clarke!!!! I love you for speaking out about this! Subscribed and will buy your Narc books!

I love your no nonsense, direct style of communication from a Christian perspective. I'll be ordering some books. I've been married to this monster for 37 years and I'm planning my exit strategy now. It's like being married to a demon. I stopped feeling anything at all when he made a video tape bragging about leaving me and our young children on the side of the road in a disabled car (I called him to come get us because the car broke down) because he was busy feeding his baseball addiction ..the game was on. It was for a "biggest fan" contest. I have thousands of such stories. The children are grown and gone now and I'm headed for freedom.

Me too. Too many people at church use smarmy nondirect fluff in conversation. David Clarke is a bazooka. I prefer bazookas. You know where they stand, no problem with clarity, no need for patience as you're waiting for someone to dress up their hazy ideas in God talk.

I don’t want to be at war with anyone. My narcissistic husband could resolve his problems peacefully if he could just be honest with himself and others and stop being emotionally dishonest. He is deflecting and blame shifting to hide his sins.

What do you do if your adult children use these same talking points to attack you and accuse you of being the Narc? My counselor said I’m not. But after all these years (6 to be exact) I guess I must be. Because who does this to their parent? And why? I can’t wrap my head around the silent treatment and the refusal to share what I’ve done. It’s like being placed in timeout for years and not knowing why. My counselor said that at this point it’s abusive and cruel. They know exactly what they are doing and why and choosing not to share it with me. I can only guess and assume it has to do with their dad’s death and the way they were raised under my care. We used to be very, very close. We would talk for hours, do road trips, shopping and I was their go to person when life was hard and I would listen carefully and prayerfully. If they got time out, they knew exactly the reasons why, what they could do differently next time and we forgave and went forward with a new understanding of both sides of the issue. I’m just at a total loss for this. 😢💔😓🙏 So, what do you do? What do I do? Please address this issue on your show. Thanks

    1. Abandon the Narc w/o any warning. Smile until the divorce papers are served. 2. Gather up any and all public documents that expose the true nature of the Narc. Use a third party to post the public records (especially with any mug shot(s) available) on Facebook, Twitter, etc. This will act as a PSA warning for any potential new supply chumps.

1 Corinthians 7:15 is about the unbeliever leaving. Not about abuse. Even though my narc husband said he would leave. He said he told me that to see what I would say. I knew it was future faking and when I asked him about it later. He said he didnt have the money to leave. Now hes acting all religious and gathering family in prayer. Im the believer and i will have to leave. So how does this apply? The children are grown although two adult male children live with us and our 30 year old daughter and her three children have lived with us for four years. He has plenty of fuel/supply. I finally get it he will never want to live with just me. I'm not enough. Now I know why he insults me and says I need to be a better wife. I guess we cant leave the narc because they are crazy?

I am so confused from all his negativity I am so lost from all his blame shifting. If I file divorce his paperwork will not go through and he will get deported back to Brazil. He has family and two homes willed to him there so I don’t understand why he doesn’t just go back. The round and round conversations just go in circles. I am an optimistic person who wants to live in sunshine but since he got here I feel like a rain cloud moved in.

Is no empathy a symptom specific to narcissism or can a person have no empathy and not be a narc?

Just gotta say, I am hoping that someday, chauvinism towards men regarding Narcissism will wane. It has been my experience that most Narcs in my life have been women. I think this stereotype is severely outdated.
