As someone who owns a VB in the northeast I honestly like the plastic cladding. I drive in dirt roads almost every day and I drive half the year in the snow it’s nice to know that my fenders aren’t getting chewed up by rocks. In the northeast as well, same exact take. Anyway, nothing is stopping people from paint matching the cladding and bumpers... it also gives people a reason to make kits.
@@On_3 at least it’s getting protected by cladding which you can replace if it gets destroyed and just really worn out overtime. Idk to me, so far, if you’re taking the car in dirt roads or in the snow (which the car was kinda designed for anyways) made sense to have the cladding on despite making the car look polarizing.

Personally, I think this generation has the best looking front end yet, but the worst back end. Not too crazy about the non-circular wheel arches either. I think that bothers me more than the plastic cladding on them, which is at least functional in protecting your paint from rocks. It'll probably all grow on me in time. In fact, it's already starting to.
My local Subaru dealer is having a difficult time selling them. They have at least 8 on the lot, they have even listed a few bases $3k under MSRP just to sell them by the end of the quarter and they still can't sell them.

I am on the principal that I shouldn’t buy a new car and then go paint it for it to satisfy my appearance needs. I’m eager to see how this car handles different power levels though.
I got a base manual in artic white last week. Enjoying it so far. The cladding works really well with white. I have some plans but won't go too crazy. Already have the shift stop, tow hook license plate, and some tail light tint all ready to go on the car this weekend. Considering an axle back but cold start is so loud, I don't want that to get worse.

That narrows the choice to maybe 10 cars. Now add performance, reliability, modification potential, and reputation. It narrowed the choices considerably. Like everyone else, I ordered a 23 Corrolla GR. Then, canceled it when I realized my chances are slim to none. Plus the GR is 3k above MSRP out the gate with a waiting time of a year minimum. It looks nice inside and out, but was not very impressed with the drive. Maybe a tune and some mods would wake it up, but not sure I wanna settle. Cool car either way.
I'm not sure why people complain about the "plastic" and size of the bumper... all cars have plastic bumpers and have for nearly 40 years. The bumper is also slightly smaller than the previous model. What people actually don't like is that is isn't painted.
I don’t think there’s any possibility of saving the looks of it unless there’s something like the veilside RX7. Subaru really butchered the new Impreza…
I guess I’m one of the few who like the stock looks of my ‘22, but I’m driving in high desert and mountain snow so the plastic is actually a welcome thing. My WRX is quick, especially up to highway speed, but she’s no STi. That’s fine as I’m nearly 50 and purposely went with the “old man” GT. I knew exactly what I was getting. I’ll never modify mine, but I like watching what you younger guys are doing to yours.
The (now discontinued) Impreza Sport sedan was a much better looking car. WRX powertrain in that body might've been a winner, though it'd still be plagued with a CVT.
Subaru is absolutely clueless what its customers want and this car shows it like no other. They know 80% of their focus group wants the manual transmission, yet they spent most of their time and budget on developing a new CVT automatic. They know the buyers want more agressive styling, so they gave it the plastic wheel arches from a compact crossover. They spend a lot of time and money to develop great new sports seats in cooperation with Recaro, but you can't have them unless you buy the automatic.
Most of the exterior is growing on me except for the entire rear end. Going around the car, it doesn't look too bad until you get to the rear. It looks a lot like a civic. I've seen a couple on the road now and I'm liking it until I see the rear. Is it a Subaru civic or a Honda wrx. Please Subaru, do something different with the tail lights and all of the plastic. I appreciate that it drives like a daily. I daily drive an 18 sti and in an urban area its not much fun especially with the road conditions where I live.
It’s sad that Subaru discontinued on the WRX STI but then it makes sense if you look into it. Subaru discontinued the STI because California was its main buyer. (Lowkey makes sense I see them everywhere in Cali 😅) Ever since California passed a law about having ONLY electric vehicles. So The 2023 Subaru WRX STI is not coming to the U.S. or any global market. The greenhouse gas (GHG), zero-emissions vehicles (ZEV), and corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) are what killed the next-generation STI and why it’s never coming back 🤷🏻♀️ so what I am assuming is that Subaru discontinued the STI to work on their new electric car Solterra. If the Solterra sells. Then I think they’re going to bring back the STI but as an electrical car. Since again, California or just in general banning gas cars. Which is why (don’t hate it) Subaru put a lil bit more performance on the New WRX, that’s why a lot of people are liking it a bit more than the STI but that’s what I’m seeing and saying
I drive a gc but I'm also a Subaru tech what I can say is I hate its on standard sub platform like outback and forester an the 2.4 turbos are littered with issues from bad turbos with less then 5k on them upper an lower oil pans leak the oil level sensor leaks from factory an is said to be normal. It has foam filled valve covers to fill up space leaking cam carries and front covers. Thermal housings under intake mounted on the crossover leaks coolant pretty early. Not a huge fan pre delivery inspection sheets just came out last month but these cars been getting picked up all summer.
I think it is most telling that even the most positive reviews of the 2022 WRX are tempered with disclaimers and compromises.... For example: "With the right color, the cladding isn't nearly so bad."
One of the only cars on the road where I can't hold back my absolute disgust. I have tested one and it drives nicely, but it's an absolute shambles of a design.
Steering is pretty numb in the 22 wrx. It's definitely disappointing. The steering is worse than the va wrx and it doesn't even compare to the sti steering.
dislike how everyone now has that stupid fender flares they look like garbage and that rear end just crap, No matter the mods and no matter the camera work car looks like trash.
Sup guys, I just picked up my 2023 last week and it’s great in every way except this one thing. I’m having issues shifting from 1-2nd gear smoothly.. I usually rev at 2800-3000rpm, and even when I let off the clutch slowly it seems like I can’t get a perfect shift. Any suggestions? From 2-6 it’s smooth like butter..
I have a 2023 WRX as well. I came from a 2020 Civic Si Coupe where the rev hang was terrible so I was always letting the clutch out too slowly. I just kept practicing and I eventually got it. Still occasionally fuck it up though but for the most part, I got it. I find shifting around 3500rpm is the sweet spot. It's usually perfect if I shift at 3500rpm. You just gotta shift faster and let the clutch out faster in this car where there's no rev hang (one thing I love about the car is the no rev hang. It drove me nuts in the Si).
I haven't had a chance to look at one close up but those plastic fender sections... How do they attach to the quarter panel? Does the metal underneath go as far down or does the plastic section extend further down? Because if it's the latter, I can see how it would make it possible to attach wide fender flares without cutting and drilling into the metal quarter panels. Maybe this was a oem feature to accommodate the aftermarket scene
This was Subaru's marketing team telling corporate that they should do the same crap they've done with the Forester/Outback/Crosstrek with all the ridiculous plastic body panels. Cost savings too. It was absolutely not what any WRX owners were asking for and was not to support modifying.
I dont mind the plastics at least theres not much paint to stone proof. I would give it more subbie rumble, maybe classic rally decal, keep the rest stock, and rally drive the everloving sht out of it
You kids miss understand the wrx it has a manual transmission only and 270 hp allwheel drive, insurance wont be charging you an arm and a leg since it's not an STi so win win plus even if it was sti you all were still going to mod it
Everything about the new wrx is better than the older gen wrx/STI's.from engine/tune to the driving platform Subaru matured the wrx, doesn't look as cheap and ricey.

Lack of power? It blows an sti away. And tuned? Dayum. Puts out 350 hp with no bolt ons and only a tune. Low stress on the engine. Have you driven one?
Doesn't even look bad. It looks more aggressive than the sti. The only people saying this are people who own stis and don't want to get the new platform.
@@frewrldmusic No, we don't agree. I think it looks great off the lot. I would leave it as is. I wouldn't modify anything on the car, waste of money. But the people who can't afford it anyway like to whine about the black flares and bumper.
I bought my first WRX in 2002, have driven one every day since and was waiting patiently for the “new“ one to come out. What a disappointment! This design is lazy and uninspiring. My question to Subaru is, why is this good enough? Is there some secret reason why the WRX cannot have a more compelling design. Is Subaru unable to hire top-notch automotive designers? An ugly car cost just as much to design and build as a desirable one and in this case even more, considering most people including me are turned off and will spend our money elsewhere. It almost feels like Subaru has given up and has decided to kill off this vehicle. If that is the plan, it would have been much more dignified to just end production instead of ruining loyal customers expectations. Why did you tease us with sexy concept vehicles and deliver this? WHY!?!?!?

I'm not sure why people complain about the "plastic" and size of the bumper... all cars have plastic bumpers and have for nearly 40 years. The bumper is also slightly smaller than the previous model. What people actually don't like is that is isn't painted.
Ascent owner; the FA24 is great. 100k miles no issues beyond some CVT stuff. (1st model year)
cant wait to see more parts for it
I don’t think there’s any possibility of saving the looks of it unless there’s something like the veilside RX7. Subaru really butchered the new Impreza…
Subie guy my whole life and this is just a disgrace
It's not an impreza anymore since 2015. Just a wrx. Sorry I mean crosstrek
Motor sucks one word the car sucks that’s my opinion Subaru
I have a 2022 wrx and I love it, it’s so fun to drive and when I put it in intelligent mod it feels so smooth
Mode *^
I guess I’m one of the few who like the stock looks of my ‘22, but I’m driving in high desert and mountain snow so the plastic is actually a welcome thing. My WRX is quick, especially up to highway speed, but she’s no STi. That’s fine as I’m nearly 50 and purposely went with the “old man” GT. I knew exactly what I was getting. I’ll never modify mine, but I like watching what you younger guys are doing to yours.
I personally love the look of the plastic cladding
Cladding really bugged me when I picked it up at first… It’s grown on me and I’m not touching it until wider paint matched flares come out
Looks fire 🔥 with the aero bits and lowered on TE’s
We tried our best to get it looking right!
Thanks for the video guys! Super interesting opinions on this very controversial car
I think a wing would help the rear alot
The (now discontinued) Impreza Sport sedan was a much better looking car. WRX powertrain in that body might've been a winner, though it'd still be plagued with a CVT.
It’s just Subaru’s version of the Honda Civic.
It looks so good and it's so planted.
Plenty of power for the streets.
I wouldn't call that planted. It's just a lowered ride. The car with that much lowered ride height will want to roll more in the corner.
@@VinRZ I'm talking about my stock 22.
The handling is awesome.
Super planted
Subaru is absolutely clueless what its customers want and this car shows it like no other. They know 80% of their focus group wants the manual transmission, yet they spent most of their time and budget on developing a new CVT automatic. They know the buyers want more agressive styling, so they gave it the plastic wheel arches from a compact crossover. They spend a lot of time and money to develop great new sports seats in cooperation with Recaro, but you can't have them unless you buy the automatic.
We don't understand that logic either!
They want to be Toyota
It's plain and simple, once the Evo left the market. Subaru simply gave up, recline their seats back and kicked up their feet on the table.
Best WRX ever made. ❤️ fuck the haters. Go buy something else haha
Something that doesn't look retarded? Ok
Everyone forgets , there is such thing is wrap , that’s the first mod I’m doing when I get mine , full one color
Immediately no, all I wanted was a new engine but keep the 2018-2021 front end
Please…..more of any 2022 WRX 👍🏼
didnt like the 2022 subaru but this video definitely changed my opinion.
At first it was a horrible sight from videos. However now seeing it on the streets I do like it, especially for the purposes of off road use.
I wonder if the '24 will be discounted later this year? Doesn't seen to be flying off the showroom. The Civic Si is selling fast IMO.
I would love to pick up a crashed VB and build it! One day
I think it is most telling that even the most positive reviews of the 2022 WRX are tempered with disclaimers and compromises.... For example: "With the right color, the cladding isn't nearly so bad."
Or "its matured" which just means..its been made boring
As BAD As It Looks?
No.
It's worse.
1999 RB5 Sti is the last time a Subaru looked rad. That's the story.
One of the only cars on the road where I can't hold back my absolute disgust. I have tested one and it drives nicely, but it's an absolute shambles of a design.
I'm a big wing fan. Don't really like duckbill. But with what's been done so far. I think a nice duckbill would look good on this car.
I feel like the Aeroflow kits are so tacky. Everyone has them and it just looks like bent sheet metal to me. Correct me if I’m wrong
Love mine. Everyone will get over the plastic bumper. The hate happens on every generation.
Been a year and still fugly. This ones a stinker
@@homwou77 So you own one or no? Dont like it then sell it. 🤷♂️
TE-37s seem to go on EVERYTHING. I need to see them on a Nissan Murano Cross-cabriolet
The worst thing about this car is that they didn’t put the wrx drivetrain into the Impreza hatchback
I'm sick order some coilovers from yall and FedEx delivered it to the wrong address and now i got a open case with them what a drag this is gonna be
I hope it gets fixed ASAP!
$4k rims on the test build is cray cray
Steering is pretty numb in the 22 wrx. It's definitely disappointing. The steering is worse than the va wrx and it doesn't even compare to the sti steering.
I was so excited when Subaru first teased it but then the reviled it and it’s still so fucking ugly smh
Lol at The Title of This Video 🤣
dislike how everyone now has that stupid fender flares they look like garbage and that rear end just crap, No matter the mods and no matter the camera work car looks like trash.
If it had a STI, then I wouldn't be mad. But I'm mad currently
I would give it more subbie rumble, maybe classic rally decal, keep the rest stock, and rally drive the everloving sht out of it
Already seeing videos of stock Vb’s gapping stock Va STI’s lol
Those arch plastics look like they were put there to more easily install wider arch flares.
I noticed while watching this whole video I found myself clearing my throat 😂
You kids miss understand the wrx it has a manual transmission only and 270 hp allwheel drive, insurance wont be charging you an arm and a leg since it's not an STi so win win plus even if it was sti you all were still going to mod it
Nothing will convince me this car doesn't suck. I simply can't get over the civic look in the rare end.
Everything about the new wrx is better than the older gen wrx/STI's.from engine/tune to the driving platform Subaru matured the wrx, doesn't look as cheap and ricey.
@@joiryde1328 you’re high
@@frewrldmusic He sounds like somebody who has actually driven the car. He is 100% correct, in the fact that this car is a major improvement over last gen.
@@EvolutionIX219 “doesn’t look as cheap and ricey” is what I’m disagreeing with. New gen looks tacky but Ofcourse it is expected to perform better than the older models that’s the bare minimum. But the appearance they missed the mark. Just my opinion though lol
@@joiryde1328 you're smoking something hard if you think that plastic bumpers and civic like tail lights in the new WRX doesn't look chesp
I really do like manual transmission, the analog speedometer ,and this plastic cover to protect the car from rust, but the problem of this car is a lack of the power and sound .There is no boxer engine sound
Lack of power? It blows an sti away. And tuned? Dayum. Puts out 350 hp with no bolt ons and only a tune. Low stress on the engine. Have you driven one?
The impreza wilderness edition is definitely what this should have been called🤣
Looks like a unpainted factory body kit to me
Doesn't even look bad. It looks more aggressive than the sti. The only people saying this are people who own stis and don't want to get the new platform.
So many ppl have called it ugly we can’t all be trolls. At best it’s not ugly but the last gen looks better and I think that’s the main issue
@@frewrldmusic this one looks way better than last gen. Just color match the fenders and rear bumper.
Lol
Maybe they don't want the new platform because it is... ugly.
@@steve8803 so we agree it’s ugly off the lot lol
@@frewrldmusic No, we don't agree. I think it looks great off the lot. I would leave it as is. I wouldn't modify anything on the car, waste of money. But the people who can't afford it anyway like to whine about the black flares and bumper.
Better car in every way: looks, performance, interior, ride quality.
WHY!?!?!?
@text8617 GET A JOB SCAMMER……………
RIP Dakota’s voice
Bro needed a glass of water like hell lmao
Big WRX fan but man the back looks like they stole it from the Honda Civic 👎🏼
I dont like cars that look like SUVs and how cars are so huge now. My RX7 fc is so sleek compared to all the new stuff
Can you guys do a "what fits Volvo 240" please 🙏 I can find shit
Shout out the Illiminate tee, I see yall lol
