Good game
Its funny that most of us immediatly recognized the Mario & Luigi Artstyle on the bros even though it was used only in the box art of previous games and not in the games themselves aside of the Giant Battles in Dream Team.
Yeah idk the new look is kind of ugly to me. It kind of looks like mario and rabbids which I don't like but hopefully it's good.

Like when dream team came out and they did the whole graphical overhaul. It was new but it still seemed like it kept that mario and luigi look to it. Like it looked like the old games with a fresh coat of paint. But I mean it is the first mario and luigi on a home console so maybe they're experimenting but I kind of hope this isn't the new look going forward cause yeah I ain't a fan honestly lol

This is an actual Mario RPG Renaissance we are living in, and I couldn't be happier! The fact that all 4 Mario RPG series are now on Switch together is unreal.
Yeah I was about a year off I figured 2023 we would of gotten a new mario and luigi game if any year since it would be the 20th anniversary similar to when dream team came out on its 10th anniversary. I figured if it didn't happen in 2023 the series was dead but looks like I was wrong lol

Not a single toad was seen in the trailer, which is a massive breath of fresh air due to how many Toads have been shoved into the Paper Mario and other Mario & Luigi games in the more recent years
ESPECIALLY in Paper Jam; The NPC's in that one were 90% JUST Toads.

Mario and Luigi is my childhood RPG series. I especially love Bowsers Inside Story. So great to see it returned.

Just wanna say how much I love your content. Dedicated "Mario TH-camrs" who are truly passionate about the series as a whole from mainline to spin-offs are pretty rare and you really make some of the best Mario content on the platform.

My first Mario and Luigi was bowser’s inside story. It was emotional beating it after starting it at 10 years old when I’m a teen. Bowser was so well written in that game. I’m definitely getting brothership.
I’m glad Nintendo acknowledges the differences in each Mario rpg games. I remember when they used Mario & Luigi as an excuse for Paper Mario with no depth RPG mechanics. We are in the better times now.
Ngl I almost lost all hope for this series but especially after Mario RPG and TTYD Remake I had a spark of hope that the M&L series would actually come back and I’m so glad it is. Brothership looks very solid and even better of a transition to an HD console than I could’ve ever imagined. I’m definitely going to get this game

2024 is the fucking Mario RPG Renaissance
What really catches my eye about Nintendo making 3 Mario games in an RPG genre in a span of 1 year is that unlike Legend of the Seven Stars & The Thousand-Year Door (that were just remakes from over 20 year old games), a more different approach for Mario & Luigi series is creating a completely new game right from scratch. It's like they found out why everyone loved the last two games and thought of making one that had similar aspects, and if that goes well, Nintendo is definitely listening to feedback, and I'm proud of them.
Lately Nintendo has been retiring the Princess getting kidnapped schtick in favor of her being more adventurous. Maybe Peach will get the Origami King treatment and occasionally help along the way. I'm really enjoying that because saving Peach was getting to be a tiring story.

Dream team was always my favorite mario rpg (including the ttyd remake) so it maked me unbelievably happy seeing this trailer. I didnt even care about the rest of the direct.
Also I really like how the Extension Corps look. The middle one really reminds me of Antasma.

As you mentioned. Hudson used to make the Mario Party games. Now they're made by NDcube, which is composed mainly of ex-Hudson staff.
I think it's a similar situation here, at least Hiroyuki Kubota (writer/designer) from AlphaDream is confirmed to have joined Monolith Soft.

I have a feeling that what's going to happen during the game is that the bros are going to fight separately like how they normally do but they're not going to do too much damage to most enemies on the islands. This then gives them the idea to combine actions together per each bro and that's why you see both of them use the A B A combo for when they do jumping and hammer attacks. Maybe they are also special moves but I like the idea of them truly pushing the brothership title like that. They could even have a segment where they're separated and then you forget how they aren't as strong as they are together.

The extension corp guy (the purple one you called an ink pen) looks like he's supposed to be a right-angle aux cable, he's got two black rings like the dividers between the poles of a stereo aux cable and his right arm and both legs look like the female receptacle of an aux extension, which would explain why he's from the "Extension Corp."

We been getting so many mario rpg games that the fans actually want. This was the only one missing and im glad we got a new game in the entry and not a remake
Nintendo is a very conservatively operated company, at least financially. Look at AlphaDream: the Mario & Luigi series was the sole reason AlphaDream was able to stay afloat, and they went bankrupt because the series didn't sell well. Yet, they have decided to make a new entry. Why? What on earth is going on at Nintendo? A TTYD remake, as insane as it sounds, was a much more realistic possibility than a new Mario & Luigi entry, especially after they have given us Mario RPG and TTYD. Man, it never felt so good to be a Nintendo fan! So excited for the future!
AlphaDream didn't go backrupt just because the remakes weren't doing well, the team itself had massive issues that lead to it as well

I think mario rpgs, kart, party, platformers etc. are in great spots right now. I think all that's really left is a mario sports resurgence.
I love this series (though the Starlow hate annoys me since it wasn't that prevalent back then over a small bit of ribbing). As much as I love Bowser's Inside Story, I still wish Partners in Time got a remake over it. I'm *_very_* excited for Brothership, though if they revisited the roots with Bros. Attacks being naturally added every time the bros learn a new field technique, that would be even more amazing as those were honestly some of my favorite bros attacks (don't get me wrong, the atracks in the later games were great too, but I kinda miss the days we didn't have to go scavenger hunting just to learn it). Long live the Mario RPG Renaissance!)

All the new original characters are based on cords and plugs. The villains are called the Extension Corps. The lanky purple member is based on a headphone jack, and the stout blue member is based on a VGA connector
This is gonna be like one of the few new games that I’m gonna pre-order the physical game because I’m so hyped for brothership because I grew up watching people play the mario and luigi games as well as playing them
I grew up with Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, and now seeing the series come back is thrilling to see. Definetley bringing back memories and I am so going to buy it.
I’ve always loved the Alpha Dream art style, so to see it done so well in 3D is like a dream come true!

Mario & Luigi 6 is the only time Nintendo could make the 6TH game in a series and it would be the most hyped game in the direct. Prob the only series where they pumped out 4 masterpieces in a row
I also want to mention that there's an NPC in Paper Mario TTYD that talks about how he played the game and mentions 'Paper Luigi' could Nintendo possibly be e hinting a spin-off based on Luigi's side of the story?! That would be so cool!

Last year we got a 2D Mario game with a New art style and a unique gimmick and a remake of the First Mario RPG. this year we got princess peach game and a remake of the best paper mario game. and now we're going to get one of the best mario party games ever. And last and certainly not least a brand new Mario & Luigi game. Nintendo has moved past the Wii U era and has gone full creative mode again
Don't forget that rareware were the ones that made the donkey Kong country and star Fox games but after they left Nintendo' continued making donkey Kong country and star Fox without rare so sure they can continue to make Mario and Luigi games without alpha dreams

Me, 4 days ago after just boarding a cruise ship and being at sea without cell data for the first time ever.
I think that close bonds such as "brotherhood" are a theme of the game; the title and power cable theming makes this evident. I'm hoping to see the bonds of other characters besides the Mario bros, such as Peach and Daisy (sisterhood) or Bowser and Jr (father and son).
Speaking of Daisy, I believe other characters like her have been transported to this dimension and are scattered on various islands. Nintendo stated that other familiar characters will appear and "color" the story. Givem that the Switch era has been innovative and has broken norms, now would be the perfect time to introduce characters like Daisy, Wario, etc into the rpgs!
I had never thought about co-op in a Mario and Luigi title, but oh my god that would actually be such a great idea for the game!

That’s honestly a good reason for why BIS was so fun. The game is just that well paced. Nothing is ever dwelled upon for too long. Everything just has a good flow to it. That’s what more games need

The pacing was honestly the biggest downgrade Dreamteam had compared to BIS and the constant tutorials didn't help. Great game otherwise, but when it drags it *d r a g s.*

Is finally expanding on this part of the franchise. The rpg side of the Mario franchise has always been my favorite and I’m so glad it came back after 9 years.
Bowsers Inside Story and Dream Team are some of my favorite games of all time. Seeing not a remake BUT A WHOLE NEW ASS ADVENTURE IS THE MOST HEARTSINKING MOMENTS IVE EVER BEEN IN MY LIFE. Before the logo was revealed, I was being hesitant on getting my hopes up. Like theres no way right?

Its nice to see this! Paper Jam is my favorite (2nd being BIS, 3rd being DT) so im getting it ASAP.

What a wild world we live in huh? It's crazy that we're in the exact opposite spot now than just a year or so ago. I'm still engulfed within the TTYD remake and now this happens.
Anyway, by the looks of it, I think the people working on this new Mario & Luigi, whoever they are, have done a great job replicating AlphaDream's style. Like, honestly, if AlphaDream had lived on and eventually made the jump to home consoles with the series, this looks a lot like what I would have expected.
Now they need to fix the spinoff and sports games.

The Extension Corps characters actually look like different types of cables! The one in the front looks like an aux port (like headphone cord) and the one on the left looks like a plug for a monitor. Not sure about the right one though.

I lost my mind over just the announcement of Mario and Luigi: Brothership... More importantly, though, Mario and Luigi: Brothership and the TTYD remake together basically obliterated the notion that Mario and Luigi and Paper Mario would clash with each other (LOL).

This is gonna be my first mario and luigi game! (Excluding superstar saga on the switch online thing)
My one expectation for this direct was "no M&L" which was obviously immediately proven wrong. At least I guessed that if there was a M&L announcement, that i'd earlier expect a new game than a PiT remake.
The thing I like best in the trailer is Luigi thinking of a plan (shown at 12:49), he looks very charming.
I hope the game is gonna have some way to raise the difficulty. I really like how Bowsers Inside Story did that with the challenge medal. (which they then ruined in the remake)
We're on the same wavelength. As big as the Prime 4 trailer was and as big of a Metroid fan as I am, I actually think Brothership is the most important announcement in this Direct in the grand scheme. Not only because it's been so long and the game looks so good, because you can also say that about Prime 4. It's because the state of this series was so painfully unclear and now we know it's not only alive but looking promising and pioneering Mario RPGs into the modern era with not a remake, but a brand new game AND on top of recently releasing remakes of two of the most beloved Mario RPGs all within the span of a year. Whereas we knew Prime 4 was eventually happening and Metroid has been doing exceedingly well on Switch what with Dread, Prime Remastered, and all the fan favorite 2D games coming to NSO (AHHHH Zero Mission!). And I myself can't get over these visuals and animations. It's like you said, absolutely perfect. This reveal feels like the Prime Remastered shadow drop, just completely amazing and fantastical.
Also like you noted , because the actaul title of the game is "brothership" makes me think there will be a massive focus on the bros relationship which could lend itself to a very moving and wholesome storyline.
It's also probably because they're literally on the most Mario and Luigi way to do a seafaring vessel.

10:54 So one thing to note is that 9 onwards is developed by NDCube, which has former Hudson Developers that worked on the Mario Party series. Shuichiro Nishiya, Game Director of Mario Party 6, 7, and 8, also directed Mario Parties 9, 10, Star Rush, and Super.
I also heard Nintendo did supposedly hire in some of the AlphaDream devs after they went bankrupt, so it's entirely possible at least some of Brothership's staff is made of them. But we'll have to wait until confirmation either by Nintendo themselves or when we see the staff credits when the game comes out.

I really hope they make it so that you can switch the lead between Mario and Luigi like Alpha Dream did for Superstar Saga. That's something they stopped doing from PIT and on. Same with the Bros. Attacks being strictly items from Pit and on. I love that they are using each other again like they did in Superstar Saga and I'm cool with them using items, too. It's cool to have a combo this time! So, please let us switch the lead between Mario and Luigi as well!
Remember when you whacked Mario with Luigi and Mario shrunk tiny and it was required to fit into tiny doorways? Then when you swapped, Mario whacked Luigi underground and he could nab up coins and beans and other cool stuff? Maybe they can introduce a new system with swapping the lead of between Mario & Luigi in Brothership. I also loved Fire and Thunder! Those elements kicked ass when you could use them with Mario and Luigi! I love how Mario and Luigi called out "Fire" and "Thunder!" That was cool! I also love how in Brothership, you actually hear Mario and Luigi talking in the cutscene instead of speaking gibberish like they did in all the previous Mario & Luigi games.
I also think it's funny how Luigi was already falling before Mario reached out and grabbed Luigi. How unrealistic, but since when are video games meant to be realistic, unless they are simulation games? Even The Sims is unrealistic, despite being a simulation of real life, but WWE games are meant to be realistic

It was always odd that peach is the only mario princess to appear in RPG games. It not that hard to give daisy a role in a RPG game. It like these developers think peach is the only mario girl the fans care about. Asinine.

replayed the first 3 games in the series last year its great to see the series come back but i still have never played dream team only game in the series i have not played i should try and get it at some point
When I first play m&l game it was in google play store. As kid I thought it was fan game. It was me and brothers favourite game to play on my tablet. Even tho none of us gone pass the jump rope part. It was still our favourite games on there

I don't think the Kirby comparison is fair because Nintendo did give Hal Lab money to save them from bankruptcy if I remember correctly. That and Hal Laboratories still develop Kirby. And while Rare and Hudson would be more appropriate, the two companies got bought and didn't just go and get left to die like AlphaDream. I'm sure there's a reason AlphaDream didn't get the save but at least I agree that I'm glad the IP didn't just rot with Paper Jam. Let's hope the next installment is great.

i think it should be noted, some former employees at alphadream are confirmed to be involved in the development of brothership (from what ive heard)
Im glad the closure of alpha dream didnt scare nintendo out of the mario rpgs i belive thats why they didn't make something like the older ones cus they were scared that it was gonna flop and the same story of the wii u they were scared to make another portable concel but they got over it and decided to make the portability of the switch its selling point

Out of all the Mario RPG revivals, Mario & Luigi is in my least likely list, seeing no one bought Alphadream and no news if Nintendo took the M&L licensing. SMRPG being remastered seems unheard, but not unlikely as it all just needs was Square Enix's blessing (and I don't think the remaster is owned by Square Enix but rather a Square Enix "second party"). Paper Mario going back to RPG roots was more surprising as they doubled own their current design philosophy after Origami King.
But I can't believe we are in a world where all 3 Mario RPG sub-series are alive in the biggest Nintendo system there is (has the Wii overtaken?). The first revivals may be retreads, but it does open for their potential sequels later on (although I still think Super Paper Mario is a "spin-off direct sequel"). Now with Mario & Luigi having new content it seems the restrictions for Mario are getting looser and looser. Hope we can maybe use previous characters from these RPGs and maybe mix together just like how I felt the N64-DS era were.

I will say, i really, REALLY hope this won't mean Paper Mario will go back to releasing shallow mid games again, i have been wanting Paper Mario to go back to being an RPG game series for so long now, now that TTYD gets a remake, Mario & Luigi revives? I hope Nintendo doesn't backpedal and makes M&L the main Mario rpgs again, like i beg, that's been the reason i kinda had a resentment for the M&L series and became a hater, since the Risa Tabata interview basically saying "You want a Mario rpg game? Go play Mario & Luigi" like PLEASE, we can have multiple Mario rpgs coexisting.
But we will see how it goes when Paper Mario gets a new game, fingers crossed it won't be Paper Mario: The Mache Witch or some dumb shit like that with Mario by himself.
I really wanna like this game, but I can't help but worry for what it means to Paper Mario, if they released a Color Splash 2 after TTYD would suuuuuck 😭
