I recorded this right before having some oral surgery done, as it delays the Valkyrie Profile 2 recap I am working on. It's actually been a year since I posted a Castlevania story, how time flies. This was a fun game, and I appreciate IGA trying to respect the Belmonts in an Igavania, since he prefers to ignore them. Good polish for a GBA game, albeit rough around the edges. Please enjoy, have a safe holiday, and if you're like me, Happy Birthday/Merry Christmas!
Literally just beat this a minute ago on the new advance collection and I'd have to disagree. The animations, graphics, art style, and pretty much all aesthetics were a huge step up compared to Circle of the Moon, but all the bosses were standstill easy, your abilities were boring and you can only filter through 5 at once, and most equipment you picked up were useless. The shop keeper was also worthless, all I ever bought from him was potions because nothing else mattered. The music was just awful through the entire game, I don't remember a single memorable track, and I don't even know if i heard Bloody Tears at any point. Towards the end certain abilities (Book and Bolt) just made you Godlike. Even more-so they copied a lot of content from Symphony, almost even the story where you have to defeat another good guy who's being possessed unless you equip the right item, and collect all the remains of Dracula. The worst of all is the map design. It's like they didn't even try. Constant backtracking and really no shortcuts until endgame when you get the final few items. Obviously this is just my opinion and biases aside from being a longtime fan of the series, HoD is a pretty good in a vacuum, but as a Metroidvania it's probably the worst one, the only other contender for worst being Order of Ecclesia.
Protip: Holy Book subweapon + Bolt Book spellbook = Gradius Shield, but you can make this combo even better by equipping the Crush Stone in your Whip slot. Summon the Gradius Shield, charge the Crush Stone, then shove the Shield into the body of your enemy and release the charge - the charge and shield will rapidly cause damage to your unfortunate foe, and likely expend most of the shield in the process - likely killing outright, or at least putting a serious dent in its HP. You can use this to cheese the strongest enemy in the game, the Pike Master, and farm its drops - one of which is a pair of Floating Boots. Oh, and I'm pretty sure those attacks can crit...
This came out during the time my grip on Castlevania was waning, so I am pleased once again to see a RECAPitation of a story I never experienced. This game appears to have a lot going on that has been drawn from other Castlevania games: The collection of Dracula's parts that were left from Simon's Quest, the rotation of the whip mechanic from Super Castlevania IV, wearing specific accessories to affect the ending like in SotN, *as well* as having two versions of the castle (Also from SotN), while also giving Juste Belmont his own set of unique abilities that complement the melee prowess that has become something of a family trait among the Belmont Clan. Thank you again for a RECAPitation of a tale I've never seen for myself, have a Merry Christmas, and I'll see you on the next battlefield with the other vampire killers. Easter Eggs: "His friends were his power."
My first castlevania was this and aria of sorrow duel pack. I liked this more. And leaning the reason the music is so unique sounding made me love it more.
@@firetarrasque4667 And? Just because it was on the Wii U doesn't mean Nintendo owns the Castlevania IP. Its on the Wii U because Konami want it to be on the Wii U. I think the side thing of filling up a room with random crap is kind of a thing the developers threw in because they were bored. But it's kind of fun to do, and me and friend like to make fun of it, so-
God, I miss these games. My favorite of the ones on GBA was certainly Aria of Sorrow, but there wasn't a single one I didn't like. Harmony of Dissonance, Circle of the Moon, as well aforementioned Aria. Liked all of em. I got my hands on Bloodstained, but I've not had the time to crack it open, partly cause I'm currently going through my rather extensive "Tales of..." backlog... and partly cause I'm a bit anxious that Bloodstained will not elicit that same feeling from those GBA Igavania games (as well as SOTN, of course). Still, looking forward to play it.
Bloodstained definitely lived up to the castlevania name. It was a fine game and I'd compare it to the games with Soma Cruz. While I wasn't entirely fond of the graphics, they weren't bad at all. I would say don't let anyone hype it up for you and you'll probably enjoy it quite a bit.
Of the 3 Castlevania game on the gba.. This was my favourite. Sure.. The music is the ONLY issue i had in this game. It was bad.. But the gameplay was SOLID.. Everything was awesome. 2 castle maps to explore. Powers to find, stuff to see. Collectibles. The Furniture room. Everything was fun. And all the MANY bosses. And you didnt really have a need to farm a mob for something specific.. Like a Soul.. or armor.. or Potion or stuff like you had in Circle of the moon.. Those damn cards. And the souls in Aria of Sorrow.
Someone needs to tell Nintendo we need more virtual console games other than NES and SNES on the Switch STAT! The Switch is definitely powerful enough to emulate other Nintendo consoles especially the portable ones. Of course there's more to it than that with licensing, rights holders and all that, but they managed to do it before on the Wii & WiiU so why not now for the Switch. Hopefully that's something in their pipeline...
Just finished "Castlevania: Circle of the Moon", which I am surprised I never beaten. I am going to play "Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance", which I have not played in a very, very long time. So glad I have all these actual Castlevania games(around 22) and the systems to play them all. Good stuff..

This game is seriously underrated.
I agree
Very underrated
Also I liked Circle of the Moon had better music if not better music quality
It’s totally the opposite for me, I’ve seen people hold it in such high regard and I think is weak and tries to hard to mirror SOTN.
Plus the game looks and sounds awful.

Here's an idea: Throw Dracula's body parts into a volcano.
Juste Belmont is the grandson of Simon Belmont, but also (seemingly) the grandfather of the later Richter Belmont? 🤔
Yeah, he's either his father or his grandfather
@@thatkleinguy I like the theory of Juste being Richter's father. Idk why...
It's called Harmony of Dissonance because the audio is really weird.

Juste Belmont goes after friend and girl and then fight Dracula very epic
I wonder if you could do Perfect Dark, since the game awards stated it’s come back.
Can someone explain why all the GBA castlevania games are on the damn wii u but none of them are on the switch
because Konami only cares about Pachinko machines now
@@blindingshadows2338 P sure it's because Nintendo isn't selling retro games for modern consoles anymore, which is honestly bullshit.

My favorite protagonist, Juice Belmont.
Just in time I just started playing this on my PSP with GBA emulator, and liking it so far like SOTN and Dawn of Sorrow
