  • A video that explains how the notes on a chromatic button accordion (B system) are laid out in a kind of "zig-zag" pattern rather than the linear way you find them on a piano keyboard. Download the accompanying charts from www.daddylongles.com Go to "Chromatic Accordion" menu.

It kills me that it makes way more sense than a piano keyboard but it's infinitely less popular

You can also compare it to a Piano Accordion since the Treble Keyboard is the same.

Incidentally, I discovered this huge advantages as well. Yet, for people used to the conventional, zebra piano layout relearning will be the greatest problem. Also, if you want to mechanically convert the former to this B or C-system uniform Kbd. it's virtually impossible. In this case the Janko is our only salvation! The thing is I am planing to convert my Tyros 3 to Janko and that's why my head is buzzing... :)

With this keyboard is switching from B to C system, and vice versa, directly in the software happened! Also all bass and chords systems are applicable! Have a look at my channel. Best regards!

Well explained. Of course the keys on a piano accordion are narrower than on a piano so slightly compact. I used to play a 120 base piano accordion but it was pretty heavy. I can see the advantage of the the button accordion once you get used to the layout.

Glad it made sense. My neighbour loaned me a 120 bass P.A. Nearly broke my back trying to lift it, let alone play it!! This was the reason I got into the melodeon - very lightweight and fun to play.

Yes, I had developed very strong shoulders by the time I was 16 but I now have a bad back and wonder if hoofing the 120 base contributed to it.

Hi! What is the width o the piano keys? What is the diameter of the accordion buttons? And what is the spacing between the buttons (either the size of the gaps, or the distance between button centers)?

My 41 key 120 bass piano accordion has 41 keys in a small space too. The keys are just less wide than on the piano.

I,ll watch out for that Les . Now if you haven,t done so your next task is to play parts on the bass side . I start one of my tunes a Scottish flower Waltz with bass solo on the C sys box. An old friend use to play sections of Blaze Away on the bass I couldn't,t do it but he had. Played the P accordion from he was a kid and he,s late 80s now.

My old Hohner Accordion is playing different notes if I pull or push the bellows. Is that a completely different system? I just bought it and I haven't learnt it yet.

      Yes, a different system/tuning.

Hello Les keep up the good work on these great instruments . You,ll prob. know the diff. between B and C systems is the 1st and 3rd row . The second row is the same on both , 1st row on yours is 3rd on mine and 1st on mine is 3rd on yours . I,m not expert on these boxes , some experts will say that if your tunes have lots of cords then C sys. has advantage because of our hand shape ,if there are lots of rapid single notes then your B sys has the advantage. I can not comment as I have only played the C sys.

Thanks for the encouragement Peter. Yes that's pretty much what I'd figured out about the two systems. I'll put a bit about this in one of my videos.
