    I am an accordionist and when he opened the case precariously near the water, I cringed!😵 btw, that is a C system bayan which is what I play, except for the fact that mine cost about $2500 and it was used.😁 and yes those bellows need to be either replaced or repaired, they should not move much if a button isn't pressed.

    I have been enjoying your videos a lot, so thank you.
    Now... I am an accordion player, been playing for 38 years and one version of button accordion. You know the nordic countries have different systems how the buttons are arranged.... Norwegian (same as Russian), Swedish and Finnish. The way how the buttons are arranged is actually quite clever, but the most important thing (in my opinion) in accordion are the bellows. You breath with it, you use it to do all the accents, differences in volume etc. It's like the modulation wheel, volume pedal and aftertouch combined in synth speak. Anyway.... I respect anybody in 2019 learning accordion, it's really not for fast technology oriented people... you need to sit on you ass for hours and practise, every day, every week, every month to get somewhere. Old fashioned.... but the instrument can do many things in good hands.

    My first musical instrument was the accordion, the keyboard type. I learned the basics of music this way. Now I'm playing piano and keyboards many years later. I never forgot what I learned. True, it's a European folk instrument (France, Italy) and never really caught on in the US, where I live. But some professionals have used it in their shows. Check out Jethro Tull playing Living in the Past on TH-cam, also Jean Michel Jarre in one of his big outdoor Paris shows. It is a serious musical instrument and requires a lot of coordination to play properly. You aren't using the bellows properly at all, it should be opened like a fan, not straight out. The buttons on the left hand provide the bass accompaniment: single notes, major chords, minor chords, seventh chords, and diminished chords, going across, from the inner to outer edge. 120 bass buttons in all, arranged from top to bottom in the circle of fifths pattern. Other artists who played accordion or used it in their bands or recordings include Barry Manilow(he learned keyboards on it, like me) and KD Lang (in her song Constant Craving). So, you see, it's not a joke. I really like your other videos, but this was junk and totally unnecessary.

    That sounds like a lot of air for just a leak in the bellows, - I suspect there IS a breather button lurking somewhere and it's just stuck open somehow. I'm not overly familiar with button boxes, but I do play a piano box in a mostly-trad-Irish band here in Houston (Texas.) Accordion surgery still absolutely terrifies me, because there are so many tiny moving parts in there, but I've done a few minor repairs. I have faith that you'd fare better than I on that venture. We've all seen you open a DX7 and solder things onto a circuit board. Think of this as the mechanical equivalent. ;-)
    Side note: I also play piano in the aforementioned band, and I recently upgraded to the Yamaha CP88, which I am loving. Thanks for all your videos on that beast earlier this year!

    • @WoodyPianoShack

      And there is a missing button at the top of the third row, too.

    • @celtickendall
      @celtickendall 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WoodyPianoShack yeah, if it IS the bellows themselves, I'd be hesitant, but it's relatively easy to get in there and take a look around. Those metal pins on either side should pull gently out with pliers. (there are 3 on the front on either side.) Suggest pulling out the ones on the left hand side, and then you can pull the accordion apart a bit and inspect the bellows. Actually, another potential leak source comes to mind... if one of those pins were missing, that would create a pretty significant leak in itself, but less than what the breather button would do, so more in line with what the leak in your mother-in-law's accordion sounds like.
