Mitsubishi Outlander maintenance light.... Explained??!??? Mostly

  • If you’re watching this, you either just want to know how to reset the maintenance reminder on your Mitsubishi, or you might be looking to change the interval at which that light comes on.
    Mitsubishi Outlander maintenance light. AND settings!
    Basic reset: no settings change.
    -With they key off, use menu button to cycle to maint menu. ( Wrench light )
    -Push and hold until the wrench flashes.
    - Press once where the word “clear” should appear.
    This should then reset the mileage to the default interval.
    ** Here is where it gets, odd. **
    To change the Type/Interval of the maint. Light.
    Do the first two steps from above.
    - menu button to maint. Menu, push and hold until wrench is flashing.
    - Once wrench is flashing push and hold the menu button 3 times. Each time holding it until it beeps. ( so 4 times total from the maint. Display)
    If done successfully the wrench menu should indicate its current setting. ( Like “Normal” “Severe” or "Off”)
    To change that setting rapidly push the menu button 3 times and the setting should start to flash, then choose from below.
    Following info from an 2019 model. Push to “select” which ever of the settings from the list below you want when it flashes, then go back and clear it to turn it on.
    Normal = 6,800 miles, 6 months
    Severe = 3,100 miles, 3 months
    Off = No reminder
    JPN 10 = 6 months. No mileage.
    JPN 11 = also 6 months.... confusing. ???
    JPN 20 = same, 6 months no mileage.
    JPN 30 = Same... c’mon Japan! What gives
    JPN 31= same. Okay so maybe everything in Japan is 6
    JPN 40 = 3 months. No mileage. There goes that theory
    NAS 10 = 6,800 miles or 6 months
    NAS 11 = 3,100 miles and 3 months
    NAS 20 = 1,800 miles and 4 months
    NAS 21= 3,100 miles and 6 months
    EU 10 = 800 miles and 6 months
    EU 11 = 4,300 miles and 6 months
    EU 20 = 800 miles and 6 months
    GCC 10 = 3,800 miles and 6 months
    GCC 20 = 800 miles and 12 months
    AUS = 1,800 miles and 6 months
    OPTION = ?? Initially 800 miles and 6 months but results seemed inconsistent.
    So I can’t really say I understand the Mitsubishi logic behind all the settings and lights, mileages, intervals and all that stuff but I hope this at least attempts to unravel this huge bag of snakes that is Mitsubishi’s maintenance light and the settings that are associated with it. I also suspect there could be a normal and severe of each one? As I accidentally did something and saw a random like, 12,400mi and 12 months appear but that never came back!?

    Hahaha I did this to my 2011, set it to off.
    I have a hell of a “service engine soon” that I can’t make it disappear.
    Mitsubishi is VERY complicated to set these things.
    Thanks for the video.

    I have a 2016 Outlander and this video, more than any other, was excellent! Thank you!!! For the longest time, my interval read 28400, crazy!!! I managed to changed it to 7 months which is more realistic due to the short distances my wife drives. Thanks again!!

    Awesome info! Love the fact you took the time and figured out all the settings. That is Top of the Class right there. I noticed on my 2011 Outlander GT... my NAS 10 = 16600/7 months so I imagine each vehicle has its own set of rules. BTW 1st time ever commenting, that is how much this helped, also along that line. I don't get how 2 reply 2 Manny Destura (he commented 8 months ago) But I believe all he has 2 do is Redo what you said again ...this time OFF will be selected and cycle to origin of country like NAS or EU and select appropriate 10,20,30 hold to set. Wait for it complete... Then it will appear as if your mile/months is due for change then reset CLEAR and he's back in the count down

    Thank you so much! I just followed this for my 2019 Outlander GT PHEV and it worked. I somehow managed to get it to do 6800 miles / 12 months, which works for me since it's a plug-in hybrid and I don't use the gas engine very often. I took it to a place that is supposed to know how to work on Mitsubishi cars (it's even in their name, lol), but they didn't reset it for me when I got the oil change. 🙄

    The last one at the end of the video that showed 3100 miles / 6 months and you said "That doesn't make any sense." does actually make some sense. In Japan that's 5000 kms / 6 months which is the Severe schedule. The Normal schedule of 6800miles would be 11000kms / 12 months. Those match pretty closely the schedules sourced from Mitsubishi which are actually 6,000km / 6m and 12,000km / 12m

Trip A i use to find out how many miles per gallon i am getting. at each fill up i set Trip A back to zero. When maintenance light comes on i just reset to what ever is on the screen.

    So monkey wrench here, I think every one of those single selections has 2 settings under it. The first is a shorter "breakin" setting, and the second (after you clear the first) is a routine setting that repeats.
