    Wow, amazing to see how things have changed since I moved to Germany in 2011. I was already surprised to see how the level crossing at Watergardens has been eliminated. Little did I know this was only the beginning of changes. Thanks for this video. Makes me even more excited to come back for a holiday next year 👍🏼

      @angelmessenger8240 thank you. Many of the towns and areas were named after places in the UK by early explorers and settlers. It's interesting as we have a mixture of English place names and Aboriginal names: Doncaster, Preston, Berwick, St Albans, then there's Werribee, Narre Warren, Wonthaggi, Truganinna, Koo Wee Rup to name a few.

    having seen comments that the track quality isnt good enough in Australia. I watching this video with interest as its semi high density running. I wonder what track maintenance vehicles you have and what generaration. thats the first act to put right. secondly how often are they sent over each section of track. Thirdly do they have diffetnt machines for specialist tamping over Points and crossings.
    The last point thats worth making is what seems to be overrdundancy of points and crossings. it seems to me as if some planning could be do to simplify the routing of trains. therefore simplifying the track layouts.meaning less points and crossings. which in turn means less maintenance wasted.
    Thirdly. the Government needs to standardise on a gauge to fit everywhere. its dumb have three gauges, when one will do.

    • @driver667
      @driver667  ปีที่แล้ว

      The tracks outside the suburbs are mostly 160kph and are in good shape. The system has been going through rationalisation over the years and this has reduced options for when things go wrong. It may save money but when something goes wrong, everything just stops whereas when we had options to switch to another line for example, we could run trains around problem areas. As for gauge, if only we had started out with one gauge. This is the legacy we have from those early days. We almost had our state completely converted to standard gauge in the 1940's until the war dried the money up and the rest is history, as they say. 👍😊
