Hello sir. Quick story, about eight months ago, I was hit by a motorist while doing a New Years' Day ride here in southern California. I was thrown into the pavement (going about 30 mph) and broke my left clavicle. Your three older videos (maybe your earliest videos) documenting your collarbone fracture recovery were a huge source of inspiration for me. The fact that you were riding your bicycle after 17 days despite the discomfort gave me a lot of strength and hope. Your two, four, and six-week update videos were videos that I constantly went back to when I was feeling depressed about being off the bicycle for so long. After about 7 weeks, I was back on the bicycle and now I am riding more than I did before the injury. What I'm trying to say is, if anyone can recover and get back on the bike it is you, sir. I'll be watching your updates and celebrating your recovery from a distance. Thank you for all that you do, I wish you a speedy and complete recovery. Please take care.
This one hurts. Exact same injury’s for me 6 weeks ago (broken thumb and clavicle, opposite sides as well). Everyone says they are glad you are ok. You are not ok. You have no arms and you can’t work to keep your income. I hope you recover well.
Same thing happened me, I was so lucky to get on the brakes as I happened to be on the hoods got a good bit of speed off before impact, maybe 35kph down to 20/25kph, that and I hit passenger door instead of the bonnet. Broke a rib and a lot of bruising, very very lucky considering what you've been through. Got the classic line "I didn't see you" even though I had a neon yellow jersey on. Hope you heal up and you're OK and back out soon, also keep making the videos when you can they are very helpful.
Your videos give great value to all home mechanics (and probably lots of professional ones too), they’re presented in such a no nonsense, plain English and conscientious manner. It was shocking to hear this story and I wish you a speedy recovery. Thank you for your passion and hard work.

The Police officer in the report put it down to a wing mirror hit. Didn't know cars had wing mirrors at the front. Obviously the officer knows. The other was a bank manager all he wanted to do was tell the neighbours he was ok, move me to the pavement then he left cos he was late. Glad you are recovering. I find the best part of recovery is to get back on the bike asap. Great Video

I fell on a bike path with nobody else around me going 15mph. Thanks to my helmet, my head impacted the ground resulting in no head trauma. The rest of me was not so fortunate. I had a broken elbow, separated shoulder and 5 rib fractures. How did it happen? I simply caught the edge of the pavement in a moment of inattentiveness on a long ride. Wear a helmet.
Sorry to hear this, sending healing vibes. Had my collar bone plated in May, back on the bike after 8 weeks, still healing but getting back to full strength now.
Kudos to you and best wishes on your continued recovery. I myself have had two significant bike crashes. Car vs bike and I was turned into just like you and sent air-born and somehow even at my high rate of speed and landing hard only sustained superficial wounds. The other was a broken hip when my bike and I slipped on a wet rode. Both required luck, quick medical assistance and of course a determined will to come back. It sounds like we have a lot in common! Good luck with your continued improvement and I hope you are riding as pain free on the bike as you can. I also enjoy your videos. Cheers, Jeff

All the best for a speedy recovery. The marks on the front wheel are from the brake pads. I had the same marks on mine when I had a very similar accident. Scrap your front wheel as it will more than likely have hairline cracks in it. Although your frame may look ok it will be the same, my forks were broken, inspecting the frame it looked ok, upon getting it xrayed it showed cracks in the joins of the head, top and down tubes. So it became landfill as well.

Cause it's normally other cars you look for, and he got lazy and didn't check for cyclists. Same thing happens to motorbikes a lot.
@@colinjava8447 This is why I always wear a day glo fluorescent green jersey, same for socks, and will soon be the same for my helmet. Unfortunately my helmet is only light green and not a proper fluorescent green - though my visor is. I also always run blinking front and rear lights.
Cyclists shouldn't have to always be super bright and visible like this. It isn't the cyclists fault that he wasn't seen. But the reality is that every thing a cyclist does to be more visible makes it more likely that you'll actually be seen.
@@wturber Get a radar if you haven't already, definitely makes you feel safer, as you know if cars are approaching
@@colinjava8447 I've got good rear view mirror habits from my commuting days. But I'll take a look at the radar option. My habits aren't perfect.
@@wturber There's the Garmin ones (the latest are RTL515/RTL516) and the Magene L508.
I got a used RTL516 for £90 on ebay, I've only charged it once in a month of use.
I just watched your channel for the 1st time and it was this video. I am so sorry for you and I wish you a full and speedy recovery. I can’t fathom how drivers are so careless!. It is scary. Take care
Very sorry this happened to you. Learned a lot from your efforts for the cycling community. Godspeed to your recovery and may His light shine on you. God bless you.
Aameen
I am a 70 year cyclists who got hit 2 times side on by cars. First one was a Nurse, she was only worried about what her husband would think re insurance. Great Video
Your videos helped me build my dream bike. I hope you get healed up quick.
I discovered your channel last week when doing some brake repairs. It was really helpful. Wishing you a safe recovery from NZ.
Glad you're ok. For all those that say, "helmets are a waste of time. I've been riding for years and nothing has ever happened to me", let this be a life lesson. You will never know when you need it until that time happens.
Be safe. Don't be stupid. Wear a helmet and ride safe.
15% of head injuries are facial
this was a case in point
You can buy a car for what the dental costs can be.
or a carbon fiber race bike/per tooth
@@larryfinke6133 those moments of inattentiveness are rough. but yours was extra rough, heal up.
@@whazzat8015 tru but you can fix teeth. can't fix blain dablage.
@@0xsergy I dunno. I have several friends who take their brains out at night.
Greeting my friend across the pond. I am very sorry to hear that you were hurt that badly and that the driver was more concerned about his potential liability than your safety, suffering or degree of injury. I wish you well and hope that you heel as expected. I would definitely think about going after the inconsiderate driver. That person doesn’t deserve a pass.
Gutted for you, hopefully you have a speedy recovery, best wishes
Been there and done that. Listening to you sent a chill up my spine. Being intimate with 4000 lbs. of steel is never fun. Glad to see you are recovering from an event that could have been deadly. Bicycles are easy to replace, the body and the brain can take a lot of time to heal. Hope you know a good Barrister. You deserve compensation for your condition which is due to the other party's error. Hoping you make a speedy recovery.
Ouch! Get better soon. Sometimes I have to work really hard not to get road ragey when cars turn in front of me, and this is exactly why.
You have made a brave and quite chilling video while clearly still in a lot of pain. It was gut churning in its detail and yet I had to listen to the end. This could happen to any one of us in and there is no answer if other people drive carelessly.
Our thoughts go out to you for a speedy recovery.
Super glad to see that your helmet saved you from serious head injuries! Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Welcome to the club 🙃 good to see your alive, cycling is Dangerous by nature, when you mix it with cars it gets even more dangerous and as usual we the cyclists get the worst off it. I too had the same, Van cleaned me up, dragged me for 12 meters then stopped. Lost skin on my RH side and the Helmet saved my head, got my neck in a brace for 3 months as I got a sprained neck .. took me months to get on a bicycle and now I avoid cycling and cars around me.
Recovery will be important for you. Take your time and get lots of support, including mental training support. Wishing you a painless recovery. 🤗🇦🇺
What a terrible thing to happen. Wishing you a very speedy and full recovery.
Oh no, god speed to your recovery!!! Good to see your up and doing better.
So sorry to hear of your accident :( wishing you a speedy recovery
I've had some close calls recently and now ride with strobe lights to the front, strobe on my helmet and red strobe lights to the rear even during daylight hours. Unfortunately drivers just don't pay attention to cyclists, even when you signal your intentions. You need to make yourself as fully visible as possible. I wish you have a full recovery.
Sorry to hear this and glad your here to talk about it . I hope your recovery is going well . All the best to you .
God bless you! Thankfully you are still here to tell the story.
Sorry to hear about the accident!!! Glad to see you'll be okay to ride another day. Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery!!
Sorry to hear it, I got my lovely blue sling to days before you broken clavical aswell hope you heal good and fast the most important part of the bike is the rider, I started my exercises yesterday ...be safe and wish you well👍
Wow, what a story, hope you’ll be back on a bike in no time. Speedy recovery and well wishes from Singapore.
That sounds horrendous - wishing you a full / fast as possible recovery / hope you can get back riding before the year is out - I’ve relied a lot on your maintenance videos over the years - they are the best and I was saddened to see this ….all the best with getting back
Get well my friend. Speedy recovery. Get ready for your next build. We only live once.🙏
Sorry to hear this and speedy recovery
I feel for ya buddy. That's rough! I hope you continue to heal well. I've learned a lot from watching your videos. Thanks, and keep up the great videos!
Get well soon, and back at it! Fast and confident.
Shocking news. Glad to hear your on the mend considering the impact. Thanks for making this video too. Here's hoping that you can soon get back to making your great videos. They are appreciated by me and i'm certain a great number of other cyclists too.
So glad you’re OK. Appreciate your videos and wish you a speedy recovery from a fan in Australia.
Yikes you are very lucky ,I hope you make a full recovery. I have decided a few years ago to always ride with a super bright LED strobe light front and rear and believe me I see drivers stop dead when they try to turn in front of me, saved me many times in the last couple of years .
Thankfully it wasn't worse, I've learned so much from your channel, thank you for everything you do on your channel .. Get well soon
What a terrible experience for you. Glad you're ok. Get well soon.
Wishing you a quick recovery! In October 2021 a similar accident happens to me, i broke the thumb and the tendon of the thumb, I was under surgical operation and I am still in pain... wounds of war! Greetings from Italy
Same happen to me Aug 2021 thumb+ligament , surgery , and 3months orthosis wearing.
Good to know nothing more serious happened to you. The accident could have killed you. Praying for ypur speedy recovery. Had an accident February this year. A motorcycle almost took my arm off. Glad I'm alive. Glad you are too.
Your videos are very helpful and I used them to setup a lot of things in my bike. You’ve been a great contributor for the community. Hope you have a speedy recovery ❤️🩹 and be back in no time stronger than before
I was really shocked to see how much damage that car did to you. I feel for you and I wish you a speedy recovery. And many thanks for your wonderful tech videos; they’ve really helped me.
Sorry to hear of your accident and injury hope you make a full recovery and come back stronger than ever
What an ordeal. Very sorry this happened to you. I hope you have rapid healing and a complete recovery.
So sorry to hear this. Best wishes for a full recovery. Love your maintenance videos
Get well soon all the best! Your videos have been really helpful.
Please get well soon. Wish you a quick recovery mate. Take care.
Glad you are going to heal and will be back on a ride. The frame shouldn't be trusted as it could be compromised even if you can't see damage.
Hope your ok get better soon wishing you a fast recovery.
I hope you make a full recovery. Last time I was knocked off it took me 9 years to have the courage to ride again!
So sorry to hear this, hoping and praying you get well soon.
So sorry to hear about your accident, take care and hope everything goes well with your recovery.
Your videos helped me lots when I upgraded parts or had problems.
Get well soon.
Glad to hear you are able to talk about it, because it could be a whole lot worst. Looking forward, I've subscribed and look forward to watching you rebuild your bike or build a new one. Wishing you the very best of luck.
Aw man feel your pain. That driver enraged me with 'name and address' as I could hear you describing the state of you in the immediate aftermath. Feel better mate. Some of the driver attitudes are crazy, certain UK rags don't help rilling folk up
Keen watcher of your videos - sorry to hear this has happened to you. All the best for your recovery, take care and look after yourself.
get well soon and get back in the saddle, hope you heal real fast and get back on the road.
This is my biggest worry as a cyclest. I wish you the best to getting back out there.👍
Outstanding information for all cyclists. I too have impacted a car that turned in front of me with the driver claiming he didn't see me. Lucky I ride with Cycliq cameras (front and rear). The driver in my crash attempted to flee the scene but other witnesses stopped him. I did not sustain injuries as serious as yours even though I was catapulted over the trunk of the car. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Sorry to hear that, get well soon.
So sorry to see you injured. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
i've also been hit by a car , hit and Run...unfortunatly couldn't fix the licence plate ...fork also broken , front wheel bent , and myself some bruises and a shoulder pain , but nothing broken...wish you a Speedy recovery.I was pretty furious , but decided that's life , i'm still here and Alive...that's the most important thing.
Wishing you a fast recovery from the US.
Wish you great recovery! It's gonna be a long way but thankfully you are alive and in your right mind.
very happy to see that, while injured, it appears that you'll make a recovery. So sad about your bike, but it is replaceable. Perhaps you can find an upgrade. Best wishes on a speedy recovery.
Your maintenance videos have helped me out more than a few times before. Hope you have a speedy recovery (and a massive insurance settlement😂)
