  • I love kiln openings and as I always say its either like Christmas or Halloween! I am happy to say this this kiln opening was mostly awesome, in fact I would say there was no failures just learning opportunities to do better next time.
    I am thrilled with how even my L&L kiln fires. It is crazy how I can watch the firing on the app and see that it is completely even top to bottom! So impressed with this kiln what they can do!
    I love the combo of Spearmint and Bright Blue on the casserole dish! The part where they overlap is amazing! The Spearmint recipe is available on ClayShare.com under resources. I am trying to convince Clayscapes to make and sell my Spearmint(and the Bright Blue too!). Let me know what you think about those two gazes and if you'd want Clayscapes to make them!

You are such an inspiration to all the hobby potters (like me) who watch your videos. The glaze you applied to both of those pots around the 33 minute mark is really nice. I haven't done any type of pottery in a long time, but I do make my own ultra-high-temp refractory ceramics. They don't expand or shrink which is awesome for precision parts, but they are more fragile than I would like because I can't efficiently sinter the material due to limited resources/space. A good kiln would be quite useful.

    • @JessicaPutnamPhillips
      @JessicaPutnamPhillips  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Chun with black underglaze is sooo good. I just have to be careful not to go too thick which can cause the glaze to crawl. :)

    Did you throw your large casserole on the wheel and alter , then add a base? Also did you do that for your very nice kidney shaped dish with the glazes which were overlapped green blue... lovely work and you have an amazing energy....

    • @JessicaPutnamPhillips
      @JessicaPutnamPhillips  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I did throw, alter and add a base to the large casserole and kidney shaped dish. I actually filmed a class on both an its on tv.clayshare.com :)

    I love your videos, what advice would you give to a newbie. I started in March but do not get enough practice, but still pay for classes, should I get my own wheel or just give up?

    • @JessicaPutnamPhillips
      @JessicaPutnamPhillips  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DO NOT GIVE UP!!!! The is a huge learning curve with throwing at the beginning and it feels like you will never get there but you will I promise! You just need to keep at it. If you have the budget for your own wheel then I would suggest you do that. You will see your skill improve greatly when you have your own wheel. Also check out my free intro to wheel throwing class on tv.clayshare.com which will walk you through all the parts of throwing. :)

    You talked about grog on your kiln shelf. What is it and why did you use it. Love your videos, thank you for sharing.

    • @JessicaPutnamPhillips
      @JessicaPutnamPhillips  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Grog is a ceramic material that contains high amounts of Alumina and Silica. It is added to clay to give it more tooth and gives large pieces more support. I use it when firing large flat pieces. I put a layer of grog on the kiln shelf to allow large flat pieces to move when firing so that they don't crack. :)
