I feel like the problem is, instead of changing stereotypes about male and females, they are focusing on changing the gender. I was a tomboy when I was younger, I hated Barbi, I hated dresses and make-up. Sometimes I even thought maybe I should have been a boy since I don't like girly things. As an adult, I still don't consider myself very feminine, but I would never want to change into a man, I just don't prescribe to the female stereotypes. I think we should be teaching children that just because they don't fit into the typical female or male stereotype does not mean there's something wrong with them and they need to change genders.
Word. Some of those qualities of personality can even benefit the person in their career. Stereotypes exist because of a reason, and they're somewhat useful in making quick assumptions on how to act in the world, to expect how the next minute possibly pans out, but it doesn't mean that an individual matches the stereotype.
If anything we should just tell people to be who they are, and accept it and be happy! Just like how women gotta deal woth the breast size they get and men their penis size. These are things we cant change

I hear so many trans people say stuff like “ I knew I was a boy because as a young girl, I loved football and pick up trucks” or guys will say “ when I was young, I liked make up and fashion and doing spa things! So I knew I was a female trapped in a males body”. It’s insane. Just because you like something that isn’t part of gender norms in “ modern” society doesn’t mean you’re stuck in the wrong body

My sister became this. She was lied to, brainwashed, by the liberal education system here in Canada. Thankfully she didn't fully transition (as far as I know). She took hormones for a few months (not every day or anything, it was once a week or bi-weekly, or so. I don't quite remember). I haven't seen her in a year, since she ran away from home. Hopefully this craze comes to a stop, finally.
As a certified pediatrician I can say this is so much of unnecessary exposure for the young children to take. Having a curriculum regarding LGBTQ+ for children as young as 4yrs is utter senseless and outrageous.
Since you're certified. I'm not. Empathy and being helpful is great. They mentioned autism. There are a lot of autistic like me who are just eccentric it isn't a big deal. Autism is over diagnosed as Hell. We are all too some point a little bit autistic meaning we all show trades of ASD. People don't like to admit it. People use the autism label because they think there's something wrong with you. "Autism Spectrum Disorder" is an spectrum on how much of an disordered person you are to people. You can't really prove autism. You just notice the person is eccentric and it bothers you hence the name disorder in the name. I call myself a freak and people think I'm being self deprecating, but I'm not as socially unware as people think. I know how people view me. I don't know about gender dysphoria, but it's probably like opening pandoras box.
We don’t trust kids to drive until they’re 16, but you’re gonna seriously allow prepubescent children to make choices that alter their gender/sex? This shit is insane. When you’re an adult, you can make whatever choice you want regarding who you are, but kids need to be kids.

same, when I was 14-16 I thought I was trans, it came from having no real life friends (i was bullied, isolated at school) and the only people I talked to were a “trans friend group” on twitter, I grew out of it when I was about to move to Texas and considered the social struggle I would face at my new school

Me too. When I was 18 and 19, I felt like a man wrapped in a woman's body. I just felt like I was wired differently. I am 26 now. Now I feel as womanly as possible. I realize that in those years a lot of things were happening within my body. I was pretty hormonal and it was just a part of becoming the woman I am today. I had also left home for the first time, was in a new city on my own and was dealing with that. It was just a stage in my evolution and it was meant to pass and it did.
I suffered with an eating disorder and severe depression as a teenager. I spent a lot of time on tumblr and other online spaces that glorified gender dysphoria and transitioning and almost went down this path. As a 22 year old woman I’m comfortable with my femininity and am soooo glad I did not go down that path
Wow, sounds like you really came close with that. If you're truly feeling great being a woman then I am truly happy you didn't go down that route. To think of the regrets that you would have if you went with it. Scary....
I had almost the exact same experience! I was friends with a lesbian couple in college who were really into tumblr and yaoi and coincidentally both "discovered" they were actually cute gay boys at the same time. At one point, our friend group was 5/7 trans identified females, and we didn't meet through any sort of trans or LGBT group. To my knowledge, only 1 still identifies as a man. I'm not sure how many of them ended up with surgery, but most of them had testosterone prescriptions.
My sister and I were both tomboys growing up in the 60s and 70s, and my sister is still much more masculine than most men (yet straight). We were talking the other day and I asked her, "If this transgender stuff was going on when we were kids, do you think you would have thought you were a boy?" and she said, "Absolutely. I would have been very susceptible to it."

I'm an engineer living in Spain now, My X wife in the UK is a University Proffesor who teaches Civil Engineering. I've taught several women over the years welding and had a number of very good female assistants, who can use drills, wrenches etc etc. So my question Do you think in the past women have been restricted from doing jobs that in general are thought of as male assigned and if as a tomboy for example if a girl wanted to be a car mechanic and could be without sexism would there be a need for this gender change thing? After all not all females want to wear a pink dress and paint there nails all day

They mostly seem to just be susceptible to peer pressure, and are not accepting themselves like lots of young girls go thru. My sister actually is quite a fine metal fabricator and welder and I do believe she had to be extra skilled at her work to be accepted into that male dominated culture. I spent most of my careers in male dominated professions too. You have to be tough, emotionally, to deal.

When I was younger, I was a pilot. I would not do now what I did then. Young people need to be protected from their naïveté in this regard; you cannot really change genders. It’s impossible. The most you will he is a farce. It’s best to accept that maybe you feel more masculine or feminine and learn to honor it, like your friend.
This started off as a "rare" condition and is now promoted as a social norm. The main reason is it's a huge money-making venue for the medical profession. Gender dysphoria used to be described as a very rare condition but now it's normalized to the point of insanity.

Growing up in the early 2000s I was the typical girl Abigail Shrier described : asperger's, no friends, severe anxiety, slight gender disphoria. Now I am pregnant and have a wonderful husband, I am SO glad I wasn't born later. As a confused teen I would definetely have asked to be put on puberty blockers, have breast removal etc.

As I senior in high school I’ve witnessed three different girls commit to transitioning in the way of name changing, head shaving, cross dressing, etc. Over the course of my high school career all three have reverted back to their female image and identity and are now in happy heterosexual relationships. I find it remarkable.

When I was a 15 "unattractive" teenager girl in the 80s, I coped by either joining the punk rockers wearing black clothes and giving the middle finger to the system, and later by joining hippies wearing loose clothes saying that what matters is the spiritual. If I were 15 in 2022, I'd have my "imperfect" boobs removed, colouring my "ugly" hair blue, and calling myself trans. It's that simple.
Its not that simple though. People dont just become trans because they feel ugly. Its also insainly unlikely that any doctor would preform top surgery on a 15 year old. I dont think you realise that gender transition isnt as readily avilable and easy to get as you think.

How I see it, is that, here's a huge difference between being a tomboy and being trans. I myself have been called tomboy since I was young, doesn't mean I have a gender identity issue. I don't experience dysphoria. And I'm ok with being a woman. I assume you are a man. Try and imagine you were assigned female at birth. And people, family, friends, are on a daily basis reminding you that you are a female. Inside, you will still be the man you are. You will hate your body and everything that reminds you that you were assigned female at birth. You would experience gender dysphoria. You would be trans. Being a tomboy is "just" having a little bit of "masculine attitude", or having a typically "manly style", corresponding to the idea (and stereotypes) we have about man in our society. Not the same.

How come gender norms are wrong when heterosexual people use them, but perfectly acceptable to use when identifying as a transsexual? Isn't that a blatant double standard?
The logic behind many of these things just doesn't work. You have to realize it isn't meant to make sense. That is why when you try to discuss these things with people, they just shout you down and call you a bigot because they can't argue their side.

It's 1984-tier doublethink. On the one end gender norms and stereotypes should be discarded, on the other end they are used as the basis to qualify someone as transsexual. I think that deep down the people who are so enamored with these ideas just subconsciously want to destroy anything that is normal or well-functioning because of their own insecurities. When every principle is deconstructed and turned on its head, nobody will be able to judge them as the losers that they really see themselves as.
Many OBGYNs perform tubal ligations on 20ish women who have never had children. They don't require you to justify yourself. They impress that this is a permanent action and you are responsible for your decision. Shrug.

In England there is a court case going on about this now. A couple of girls who underwent gender reassignment treatment, felt they were encouraged, and now regret it, having made irreversible changes to their bodies, are suing the doctors who did it. Will have to see how it pans out.

I'm a transgender woman. I came out at 39. I can say that I agree with a lot of what's being said here. Upon going to my FIRST session with a therapist, I was asked if I was interested in getting on hormones. At 39 years old it took me the better part of 3 years of therapy to make sure transitioning was right for me. I'm a grown adult, and that decision took me many months and a professional therapist to decide that I was truly transgender. Teens don't have the maturity and foresight of an adult to make such a life changing decision. Lots of teens especially girls feel socially lost and isolated. They think no one loves them, and no one is paying attention to them. All they have to do is "come out" as transgender. All of a sudden everyone is giving them attention and cheering them on. There are legitimate transgender people out there. I spent about 25 years trying to not be a woman. I would be a woman in my dreams. If I engaged in feminine activities my anxiety and depression would go away, but that depression stalked me like a beast in the night. I could fend it off for a couple weeks, but eventually it always came back. We don't have a transgender issue in this country....we have a social issue with our kids, and the powers that be are using my community to victimize kids. I don't know how to fix it...or even influence the problem, but I want everyone to know, many of us transgender people feel exactly like everyone else on this subject. We feel victimized ourselves by being the scapegoat for this manipulation.
Don’t you think it’s wild you was asked at your first session are you interested in hormones it seems like a going to a therapist for something else and they ask at your first session are you interested in taking xanax or whatever drug is meant to ‘help’ your situation? @@Dave-nj9te It is wild. That first session was September of 2019. In that FIRST session she gave me a diagnosis of gender dysphoria and referred me to a gender affirming endocrinologist. Because I'm an ADULT...I was mature enough to put that off and find a more conservative therapist. My new therapist worked with me for another two years before we came to the conclusion that I was in fact completely cleared of any mental health issues aside from gender dysphoria, and I confidently went on hormones with one of the best endocrinologist in our state. My biggest fear in one of these days, being transgender will not be "cool" anymore, and all those young people who jump on this crazy train for the wrong reasons, will live a life of pain and regret. I'm not saying every transgender person is wrong for transitioning....it's working for me. But people need to make sure they are doing it because they HAVE to...not because they just WANT to.
Thanks for putting that out there. Reassurance that people with your disorder aren't insane like these people doing drag shows in front of babies. Hope you continue to be comfortable with yourself and live a good life.

Funny, I'm a healthy adult male with low testosterone but cant get treatment from my doctor because it's not "low enough" but a girl can just walk in and get it. Maybe if I identify as a teenage girl they'll hook me up.

When I was a little girl, I learned the word "unisex" from the tag on one of my t-shirts and went around telling everyone that I wasn't a girl, I was "unisex". Nobody thought anything of it, and I grew up into a woman with a balance of feminine and masculine traits, just like everyone else. God forbid I was born in 2015 instead of 1995, I'd probably have been put on puberty blockers.

It's such a fine line for me. Trying to teach my daughter to accept people for who they are. Yet she has a group of girlfriends (aged 15-16) and they all gravitate to the pronouns, and lgbt community, but what I see is them treating it like it's "the Beatles" like it's just the hype for them. I'm trying to open her eyes to the fact that they're just the new version of "mean girls" because if someone doesn't agree with them, or just doesn't agree with everything they say, they shun them and call them bigoted....it's insane!!
The problem is that we shouldn't accept people for who they are. When you start from the baseline that everyone is inherently evil, it becomes clear that we shouldn't accept everyone for who they are. Jesus Christ tells us to come to Him as we are, but He doesn't want us to *stay* as we are. We are expected to change and follow His will, because what we want and desire is not a good path. All of this transgender stuff is just further evidence of that.
Being kind to someone and accepting them are two different things. If people aren’t in alignment with your values, then refusing to associate with them is totally valid and you don’t owe them anything.

Some trans women become navy seals or athletes to make themselves feel more manly. I denied it myself for years. I was transphobic. In school people said I walked feminine so I went around trying to walk like a weight lifter. I had lots of masculine hobbies. I raced motocross and bmx. I tried very hard to fit in as a guy. Until I just couldn't stand it anymore and had to transition.
Fwiw, I'm a straight female - somewhat tomboy-ish at times. A guy seeming more "effeminate" doesn't make him less of a guy in my book. I've known two men like that. They're both straight males. Interestingly, I've known both of them to be more into reading / studying / learning / teaching others. It's been some time since I've last seen one of them, but I think they've both been foodies, too. I know one is. I've appreciated how they've both been a bit more cultured than average. I think it's cool that they felt confident enough as guys to choose the interests they have. = )
I was becoming very asexual around this time in school and developed anorexia instead. Turns out it was just trauma. I have seen a LOT of girls come out as trans or nonbinary because they have experienced trauma or because they didn't fit in. Thanks so much for covering this.
I went through this exact thing when I was 12-14 I thought I was supposed to be a guy. I changed my name and went through quite a bit to make myself more masculine. Later on I realized that wasn't me. I also struggled with anxiety and self harm and I never fit. I think she is completely right, we should not let a child decide to permanently change themselves to someone they may not want to be in a few years.
This is such an important conversation to have. I’m a 27-year-old woman, didn’t realize I might be autistic or start the screening process until I was 25. I have never felt “female”, or any sort of kinship with other women in particular. I just feel like a consciousness stuck in this body I was arbitrarily plopped into. My mannerisms and speech patterns are kind of masculine. But I have absolutely never felt like a male. I just don’t feel female either. If I was a child now and said that in the presence of the wrong person, (and I likely would since these conversations are being pushed by doctors, in the classroom, and many other spaces,) I would likely be going through life-altering procedures that I could never undo. And if my parents objected, which they would have, they would have been labeled bigots and child abusers. That’s terrifying.
Whuts Uhp Hey, I did have some testing recently that made it look like I have OCD, and I have really severe depression and anxiety, but nothing else. Autism and BPD get misdiagnosed as one another quite a bit because the overly simplistic way autists see the world (not understanding subtext and nuance) looks a lot like the way BPD causes people to switch from love to hate towards someone or something.

My wife works in an eating disorder facility here and I can confirm 100% that the number of trans teens and adults into their 20's with all sorts of eating disorders is off the charts. It's shocking.

As a 33 year old male, I didn't truly know myself until I was 28. Life experience means so much when it comes to big decisions. I hate how people think just because someone is 18 they're ok to make any adult decision except from buying tobacco and alcohol. This country lost it's way.

I have 5 brothers and was a tomboy. I'm a tomboy now. I suffered mental health/eating disorder, top of the class- sometimes envy men still but that doesnt make me trans lol. I soon realised that it stemmed from how my mum treated my brothers compared to me and how I got treated by men 🤷🏾♀️ Im now a mother to 3 kids and am so glad I didnt convince myself I was actually a male. However I do enjoy being a tomboy and having sons is a great, they get to have a mum who enjoys going on scooter rides ect with them! 😅
Absolutely same. I had an older brother and all my mom wanted was boys. She didn't like girls and I heard that all the time growing up. I was even notably treated different. In response at a young age I was an extreme tomboy and that only annoyed my mother more... and though I still am a tomboy I'm also significantly more feminine... and I continue to struggle with gender issues and sexuality, I'm almost 21. But now days I feel much more comfortable being a female. And embrace more "feminine qualities" so to speak... so to simply put it I feel more like I'm becoming comfortable in my own skin.

I'm the only boy out of 7 kids, I wasn't raised with a father or male role model, I've never came close to considering myself gay or transgender. When I was in middle/highschool though I was emo as shit (tight clothes, eyeliner, took better care of my hair than my dogs), today if I was in highschool I would have been considered a gender other than male.
And not only girls I think, majority of the teenagers go over massive changes in their body and mind so no wonder they feel alienated from themselves, it's hard to keep up with your body changing and mental development as well, you start thinking all new thoughts that are unfamiliar as well.
I think as well that we underestimate the effects of porn on young girls that are probably terrified of what they think is expected of women sexually, and also being confused with their own sexuality because of it. So changing into a boy may seem more logical to them than the reality.
@kuukivi I highly doubt porn is much of a cause for the trans problem, it most certainly badly affects young women but I doubt it affects this issue that much. If it did SO MANY more guys would be becoming trans considering how much more mentally damaging porn is for men and the fact that they have a much problem with loneliness and feeling unwanted.

Exactly!! I was left get a tattoo when I was 15, ten years later and I hate the sight of it. It's easily hidden but I still wonder what I was thinking when I see it. My brother has dealt with Asperger's syndrome since a very young age. When he was in early high school he spent a lot of time on Tumblr and started to believe that he was transgendered. Not one thing before being exposed to that ludicrous idea would have pointed to such an explanation. He realizes the silliness of it now but it was a hellish time for him back then. Kids are so malleable because they are trying to find their name tag, their identity. Don't give it to them, let them find it.
I'm not 100% sure but I believe the revolutionist acronym on gender minority is now LGBTQIA. Last letters recently added for "Inquiring" and "Asexual" or "Androgynous." What bothers me is that any autistic person who may typically feel androgynous then becomes represented by this minority revolution. Maybe it was done on purpose to include a bigger but possibly unwilling demographic to increase LGBTQIA statistics.
I see so many people on twitter with "14, trans, any pronouns" and i just know how easily influenced and mentally unstable/ vulnerable i was at that age (e.g. doing drugs/ drinking underage cause my friends were doing it) and i just wonder what damage this would do mentally to me if i fell into this "trend"
She explains how I felt, I thought I was a boy from age 4. It never went away until I turned 17 and had a healthy friendship with another girl. I think I had no good female role models, my mother was a narcissist and my older sister bi-polar and both had scarred me emotionally. I felt boys were normal, they had a wolf pack type of relationship, they were smart, always inventing things. I hated my body too, I didn't accept myself from outside because I was traumatised from inside. I'm almost 30 now and only realised few years ago that I carried trauma with me. I feel glad that I could accept myself, it was a slow progress, I thank the people that gave me a different perspective and showed me love.
I wouldn't be surprised if homophobia contributed to your feelings, either. This is obviously just my experience, but out of all the lesbians I know, only 1 had gone through their whole life never "questioning their gender".
It is nice to read that people have found a way to lighten this kind of burden and handle it with patience to carry on in order to resolve the issues. I hope it continues getting better for you. We are all human; men and women both have good sides and bad sides switching sexes wouldn't change that.
I remember those girls when I was young who hung out with the boys and was just as rugged and strong and liked the things boys liked. They called them tomboys.
I was a tomboy, but I hated that word with such a passion. It felt so dismissive. Especially when people started to imply all tomboys are only doing it for male attention. Like no... these are my best friends, these are my hobbies. Idk, it hurt.

Like people in the medical field, education, law, and trans people and their families. The author is not against being trans. She just believes it has become a fad, even a craze or obsession. Unfortunately, they choose (often against their parents' wishes), an option that is not right for them. And this option will cause irreversible harm to their bodies, lives, and futures.
When I was a little girl, I never really liked dolls. Between the age of maybe 6 to 12, I hung out with my brother and his friends and played baseball, football, built treehouses, rode bikes, collected bugs. It was called being a tom-boy. As a woman looking back at my life, I know that I could easily have been convinced that I was trans and required meds, surgery and council instead of moving from child to teen to young lady to live as a woman, wife and mother. Thank God I was born in a different era. A whole generation has been corrupted and I don't think we'll ever get back to normal. This generation will be the tipping point in a declining culture. We will never be able to fix the indoctrination that has been quietly corrupting these poor children. This is a process that has been active for 30 years at least. @@moonkraab I can relate too. As a little kid, there weren't any other boys my age around and I mainly hung out with my sisters and their friends, and with neighbors' daughters.. I''d play dolls with them, at my sisters'slumber parties they'd play dress up with me. I started saying I was a girl, that I wanted to water dressed ect. My parents stepped in and told me the truth: I was a boy and nothing could change that. When I started school, however, I found it difficult to reality to other boys; I wasn't into sports, most of my friends were girls,ect. My confusion lasted until I was nine and saw my sisters go through PMS-amd please don't think this is sexist in any way but to this day stuff like that makes me GLAD to be a man.
As a girl who experienced sexual abuse and had trouble reconciling with that emotional pain and the fear of becoming a woman, I identified as transgender because I thought that I would be too strong to hurt as a man. Of course, that was ridiculous, and I ended up trying to kill myself about a year into that. When I finally made good friends, I came out of it, and I'm now contented with my life as a young woman. The most disturbing part to me, however, is that so many friends who are my age have that exact same story, and that there are so many confused kids that have gone through this but have not been able to come out the other side.
thanks for sharing this, it really emotionally resonated with me and some of my experiences. makes me feel less alone even though i still struggle with gender sometimes despite being 25 now. i still am taking the time to decide what's right for me, but i have close friends now as well as a loving partner who always supports me in my decisions. I love the transgender community dearly, but talking the time to make the right choice is a necessity with any permanent decision.
Yours is one of the best comments. It helps us older folk understand what you went through but it also proves how right we are to say that 'transgenderism' is dangerous. We get "OK boomer/ transphobe/ re-educate yourself" hurled at us by people who've had far less life-experience than we have. We get told 'transgenderism' has always been around, but only because your generation is too young to remember the 'before' time! If it isn't a new and nonsensical invention, that word and all the related ones would be in printed dictionaries, but I have yet to find such words even in the largest late 20th century dictionaries. I'm guessing I'm about 40 years older than you, and no-one ever questioned the sex we were born into in my young days, but we had the same hang-ups about fitting in, and about what we looked like - we were all young once! The same struggles, abuses and traumas have been around for as long as there have been humans; if only more of these girls would talk to older people, they might be surprised at how sympathetic we are and how much we have in common. The only difference is that we didn't have the magic 'sex-change' wand waved at us, for which I am grateful. Perhaps you could get your friends to ask parents/ grandparents what it was like when they were young. I am sorry you were abused but feel the current system is letting girls down badly by not providing enough opportunity for them to talk it through with people they can trust. I'm glad you've come to accept yourself and shown yourself to be a caring person with the wisdom to acknowledge the truth, and wish you the very best for the future.

You need to be 18 to give medical consent in this country. Why should you be able to make a life altering and possibly life destroying decision at the age of a elementary or middle schooler ? And all without your parents even having any say or even knowledge, how is that acceptable ? Should we just allow children to drink alcohol because they identify as an adult ? The crazy thing is how easy it apparently is to get testosterone in these cases but how difficult it is for men with low testosterone to get testosterone.
I think about these things all the time. I think between that and peni* enlargement, society isn’t as concerned with or doesn’t want more confident, strong men. It’s seen as a threat to peace, I think.

I was born in 2000, and I am so glad to have had a somewhat normal schooling experience. K-12 was what you'd expect any public schooling to be like. You have the popular kids, the troubled kids, the sporty kids, the shy kids, the smarties and the outcasts/weird kids that just didn't fit in. But you know... most of these kids, no matter the clique they were in... grew up and found themselves/a life/a family. There was no pronouns, no teachers trying to just advocate their political gender beliefs, etc. I've come to recognize that all these teenagers on TikTok and social media... you can tell they don't fit in at school and that this whole "identity/pronouns" thing is a way to cover up the real issues underneath. Most highschoolers don't know who they are or what they really want to do in life, yet people think it's okay to let them make permanent changes to their gender? A person doesn't figure themselves out, I don't think, until their 20's or later. I am 22 and am just coming around to understanding the things I want in life. Instead of coping with their emotions, seeking or receiving help from their families... these kids who don't quite understand the deeper issue around things are putting on make up and referring to themselves as "demon/demonself, pixy, pixyself, etc." How does one grow and join the workforce with demon makeup on and identifying like that? Oh, right... the world has chose to warp around these crazy ideologies and accept everyone. When will the line be drawn? When someone identifies as "murderer/murderself"?

This made me cry. Great clip. I feel so sad for all the teenagers trying to desperately define themselves and eventually realising they are failing and committing suicides... I am 42 but when I was a teenage girl I found life incredibly difficult and I wanted to die. I felt like I don’t belong here to this world, this family, this century, this body. Everything was too much and too wrong. Looking at it from the perspective of a few decades I believe the teenage years are incredibly difficult for some and all the hormones fluctuating up and down really ‘help’ young people to do whatever (often wrong choices), in order to somehow define themselves. I felt lost, I was searching for myself. I think that’s what most teenagers do when they are forming their real adult self. As the body is changing the mind has to change and often the mind is still undeveloped and left behind. (I am glad my insecurities were highlighted by magazines and movies only and not by all the social media mess). I wouldn’t make it as a teenager now. The depth of being is lost and the superficially is deforming us all.
I'm probably much older than you & lived far out of reach in a family not influenced even by magazines & movies. My insecurities were only because of my love for women, which was an absolute no-no in the McCarthy days (see Sumner Wells). My fleeting thought/feeling of being a man in a woman's body came only in my hormone-ridden late adolescence, when I physically desired a friend & was mad over it. I removed myself from the situation & only allowed myself to live my desires about ten years later. No regrets. I agree with you: social media is a mess. Plus the transsexual empire (see Janice Raymond).

I remember growing up very sweet and sensitive playing with girls toys wanting to be around and to be one of the girls. Growing into my teenage years this grew into cross dressing, concealing masculinity, finding Internet forums for transgender people. Years later I am so thankful to God that I have found my identity as a man. I still have gender dysphoria and often feel orientated in a feminine direction but I know I was made to be a man and feel grateful that I found that!
Keep fighting brother. You can beat the indoctrination. You are your own person! Speaking from experience, you should try to get into weight lifting :) Working on myself and my body helped me get out of the victimization loop.
I had a boy in my class who always hung out with the girls and played with Barbie’s as a kid. His dad was a stay home father and his mom went to work. I’m very glad you are a lot better now! Highschool and the young teen years can be VERY difficult. It was for me

I struggled with my own for a while, unsure if I was trans or nonbinary or just a girl, eventually figuring out that I identify most strongly as a demi-girl, that moment of finally figuring it out was one of the biggest catharsis of my life. One of the reasons these gender transition procedures are so easy to acquire I think (and I am not a very intelligent person) relates to one of the biggest problems of the US medical system. It is not about fixing health problems quickly and efficiently; it is about establishing a consumer a base and selling as much product to that base as possible.
I really appreciate this being talked about because I was one of those girls in my teen years. And when she started listing off all these traits that these girls tend to have, it was like she described me to a tee. I feel so humiliated when I look at my past and remember how I used to identify as male. I'm just really happy that some attention is being brought to this. It most definitely is a phase for a lot of girls.
it’s easier said than done, but i don’t think there’s any reason for you to be humiliated. at the time you identified as male for a reason, you obviously believed it.. now it’s not longer your reality. your past is your past, you eventually figured things out and got to where you are now which is all that matters. it’s a good thing that you can now recognise it was merely a phase for you
I can identify a ton of issues I had in hindsight that lead me to believe I was a boy inside. It’s really messed up. But it does bring me comfort to know that other girls share the same experience.
I was labeled a tomboy and hated how women were looked at, the pressure to wear makeup and dress a certain way along with the disrespect and danger that comes with being a female. I’m so glad I didn’t have the internet as it is today as that combined with depression and anxiety caused by undiagnosed ADHD would have definitely lead to me transitioning to a man before I learned radical self acceptance and how to love my body. It took a lot of turmoil, effort and breaking a leg to get there but I genuinely believe it was worth it. I’d have been one of the girls who transitioned and then realised there were underlying mental disorders I hadn’t addressed and likely regretted the decision. That’s definitely not to say this is the case with other trans adults. I just think if we got rid of gender stereotypes and took care of mental health, everyone would be better off. Thanks Joe for addressing this almost off limits topic. Open discussions should be allowed on all topics under the sun.
Oh gosh. As someone who's in my 20s and has had gender dysphoria my whole life, I can say without doubt that transitioning will not help me. This is my own experience, and I am 100% in support of adults doing this but not children. If it works for you and you are of age then you have every right to do it. But it doesn't cure and help everyone and more people need to put that into consideration. Good for you for writing this book. I'm glad more people are putting this into light.

@@FruityHachi For me personally, transitioning into a man wouldn't help because deep down I know that I would still not be a man. For me, it would feel like I'm being something that I'm not, which hurts just as much, if not more, than the gender dysphoria. I am not a man. I know I will never truly be a man. That's why I think the suicide rate in trans people after transitioning is still high. The best thing I can do is try to be comfortable in my own skin and love myself the way I am. I can never be the man I want to be but I'm trying to be the best woman I can be. I think it's very important for people who have this same problem to get therapy and learn self-love before considering transitioning. This. Teenagers can make a lot of decisions they’d regret later, but undergoing mastectomy or hysterectomy - or becoming dependant on hormone pills/injections for the rest of your life - is more extreme than anything.

Not really though. You probably would have gone to a gender therapist if you were being responsible and the both of you would get down to the issue that you weren’t actually trans. These big decisions take a lot more steps than some people think

I know of many kids af all ages (children and adolescents), that after just few sessions with a counselor or therapist, and sometimes only one (in many cases), they begin the transitioning process. Watch detranscitioning stories on TH-cam, and you will very surprised... and be extremely worried.
It's hard to be a parent nowadays. If you dont allow you child to transition, you're seen as a bad parent. When you support your child to do it, and the day comes that they regret it, youre also seen as a bad parent for letting that happen. Oh man.
We met a non binary ten year old girl, and it was a genuinely scary experience. It is a learned behavior. She learned it from her mom's friend... She will sadly get a wake up call come puberty.
When I was about 13 I found about the trans movement. I come from a very conservative family thankfully. At that age I was already extremely uncomfortable with my body and hated my chest so as I got older I figured “hey, I’m probably trans but my family will hate me so I can’t come out.” Once I got to be about 17, I started to get more comfortable with my body. I still am a tomboy and wear sports bras most of the time but I’m not scared of my femininity anymore. I think it’s very normal for kids to experience discomfort in their body during puberty but now that it’s a mainstream thing to be trans, it’s getting treated differently
I'm uncomfortable because I'm a bit fat, but I don't think liposuction is a good solution. There are about 1,000,000 better solutions than surgery and hormones.
In our country you can't transition until you're an adult. You also have to undergo therapy etc. It's a stepped process. I have never met a parent pushing a child to transition. Most parents understand the difficulty for their child attempting this. Frankly I think gender reassignment should be left for adults only. The person should be allowed to live and identify with whatever gender they relate to. I wouldn't presume to insist a person live their lives according to societal demands.

I ended up not being transgender but if I was was from a different family, I might have ended up getting treated as transgender and I might not have realized until it was too late. I am aware that not everyone who is transgender has a loving family and I am very compassionate towards them however I am very happy that my family is more conservative because it saved me from doing harm to my body. Yes, it’s important to recognize that some people do not get the support they need, but it’s also important to not invalidate people who experience it the other way too. I am not ignorant about the struggles many trans people face but I am also not naive about the people who end up detransitioning. You have not lived my life. You do not get to tell me that my experience with realizing that I am just a more masculine woman and not transgender is somehow not acceptable.
Cool. Gender identity and gender expression are two different things. I'm a feminine trans guy. My femininity doesn't make me a woman anymore than your masculinity not making you a man.
This is such a problem for HS. I have worked at a HS for years and over the 5 years has gotten tremendously insane. Suicide is now considered cool. No one is just themselves, their lives have been dictated by being different and social media influenced. These kids do not think about consequences. They do not know what a consequence even is. The deterioration of the kids today’s ability to resolve conflict seems non existent. Internally or externally.
Why don't the schools along with the parents block these social media platforms and online porn on computers and these kids cell phones? When I was in school I didn't have time for all that stuff. I was too busy with school work, sports and extracurricular activities.
A cousin and I grew up in the same house with our grandparents. She was what we called a tomboy she hated everything feminine. Would wear jeans, t-shirts and sneakers only. She would even slouch a lot to hide her breast. My cousin is now in her 30s and one of the most girly girls. Sometime in her 20s she made a complete 180. She's the one that does our hair and makeup for special occasions. Her closet is the bomb I'm always going through it borrowing her clothes. We would look back at teenage pics and laugh together and she would say Lord what was I thinking in those days. I'm scared today for young women because many of us have that weird awkward phase growing up as we try to figure out who we are. Hormones and body mutilation is not the answer. What we these girls need is time.
I was totally that kid and then puberty hit and I started getting into clothes and boys. I’m still a tomboy in some ways, but I never once that I was a boy because I liked sports and didn’t like dolls very much

Some families are complicated. Mental or physical attacks and I'm not talking about an oversensitive generation of kids. You don't get to choose family and life's not fair. It's just the way it is. Either you get a good hand or you get a bad one. Unfortunately you have to try and deal with it the best you can. And crying about it is not going to fix things.
Detransitioning isn't bad in itself, but when they start telling actual trans people that they aren't valid cause they themselves weren't trans IS a problem

Listening to this makes my heart ache. I used to be one of those girls 😢 but I never fully went through with it. Everything else she said was spot on- the loneliness in school, feeling like you don't fit in. I don't know how it didn't kill me, but God do I wanna cry when I see those girls who detransitioned and have to live with the consequences.
Honestly sharing. In my teens i felt ugly inside out. My negative self talk had a reoccurring thread... “i’m such an ugly girl, god must of made me a boy and then changed his mind last minute. I felt so ugly and unfeminine comparing myself to others. This was my teenage brain logic. Insecurities and low self-esteem warped my sense of reality to justify my toxic anxieties. My friend daughter is about to start testosterone next week. 15 years old. She's high functioning autistic and has anxiety and depression. Went to one doctor's appt and one counseling session and they approved. I asked her mom to research and take her time deciding, but it's all in the works. Her daughter talks excitedly about a double mastectomy... my mom had one from aggressive breast cancer and it pisses me off that this is so lightly trapped about, like a new tattoo or something!
Why is this lady so controversial. She seems caring yet logical. She isn’t against trans people just against pushing children to do something that they may regret that can’t be undone.

the prefrontal cortex gets developed by age 25. that helps in long term thinking and reasoning and consequences of actions. so those who want to change their sex wait as along as you can, develop a full functioning brain.

I've been out as trans since I was 11 years old, I'm in full agreement with her. I think many people who transition treat it as a tattoo or a piercing.

I think the surgeons who just do the surgery with a waver just want the money, and they’re hiding behind the whole “I’m giving them what they want” line. To me, if you really cared, you would make sure they were in the proper mental state before the surgery.

She really hits on something that I see as prevalent in society today, particularly with the younger generations. I think there is an extreme struggle with people finding meaning in their lives. This does not encompass every person, obviously, but the large movement away from religion and family leaves a gaping whole where many people might find that meaning. I think that desire for meaning is driving people to these causes, which in my eyes are mostly manufactured. I’m not going to elaborate beyond that, but think it leads to a lot of young people being misled and deceived.

I actually noticed this when I was in high school. This was before trans was a thing but I hung out with the loners (kids with troubled home lives) and they were ALL bisexual. Like it was the thing to do in this friend group. Eventually They would all "come out" as bi. I at one point thought I was bi too, until I later realized I was just lonely and emotionally unfulfilled
My daughters have lots of classmates who are choosing this path like it’s a “book of the month” decision. They’re acting like it’s as benign as a tattoo.

Gender isn't a physical thing, that's sex. Anyone can change gender and truly become a person of another gender from what they were prior. That's the way it's been for thousands of years. Seriously, there have been trans people across all different cultures all over the world throughout human history. And many cultures were acceptant of it. Also, it's been proven be a biological condition in certain people's brains. I think there is a big issue with it becoming somewhat of a trend in teenagers at the moment but that shouldn't confuse people into thinking the whole thing is a sham.
This is so important to talk about! Children and teenagers should NOT be allowed to make these decisions and changes before they reach adulthood, when their hormones calm down! That's the same thing as getting tattoos or piercings when ur in rebel-teen mode! Wait till you calm down, get your life together and then if you still feel like you are in the wrong body- then do your thing!
This is so heartbreaking. Being female during preteen/puberty years is hard. The hormone levels in your body start changing and your emotions and temperament get fucked up. Your body hurts and you don’t feel beautiful. My mother wasn’t present in my life but I was gifted this American Girl book called “You” or something like that and it was great. It encouraged young girls to love their bodies and the changes it’s going through. Now they are encouraged to mutilate themselves under the guise of self acceptance and self love. It’s truly saddening. I’m really disappointed in my generation for allowing this to happen to their kids.
I feel like the problem is, instead of changing stereotypes about male and females, they are focusing on changing the gender. I was a tomboy when I was younger, I hated Barbi, I hated dresses and make-up. Sometimes I even thought maybe I should have been a boy since I don't like girly things. As an adult, I still don't consider myself very feminine, but I would never want to change into a man, I just don't prescribe to the female stereotypes. I think we should be teaching children that just because they don't fit into the typical female or male stereotype does not mean there's something wrong with them and they need to change genders.

Word. Some of those qualities of personality can even benefit the person in their career. Stereotypes exist because of a reason, and they're somewhat useful in making quick assumptions on how to act in the world, to expect how the next minute possibly pans out, but it doesn't mean that an individual matches the stereotype.
If anything we should just tell people to be who they are, and accept it and be happy! Just like how women gotta deal woth the breast size they get and men their penis size. These are things we cant change

My sister became this. She was lied to, brainwashed, by the liberal education system here in Canada. Thankfully she didn't fully transition (as far as I know). She took hormones for a few months (not every day or anything, it was once a week or bi-weekly, or so. I don't quite remember). I haven't seen her in a year, since she ran away from home. Hopefully this craze comes to a stop, finally.

People use the autism label because they think there's something wrong with you. "Autism Spectrum Disorder" is an spectrum on how much of an disordered person you are to people. same, when I was 14-16 I thought I was trans, it came from having no real life friends (i was bullied, isolated at school) and the only people I talked to were a “trans friend group” on twitter, I grew out of it when I was about to move to Texas and considered the social struggle I would face at my new school

Me too. When I was 18 and 19, I felt like a man wrapped in a woman's body. I just felt like I was wired differently. I am 26 now. Now I feel as womanly as possible. I realize that in those years a lot of things were happening within my body. I was pretty hormonal and it was just a part of becoming the woman I am today. I had also left home for the first time, was in a new city on my own and was dealing with that. It was just a stage in my evolution and it was meant to pass and it did.
I suffered with an eating disorder and severe depression as a teenager. I spent a lot of time on tumblr and other online spaces that glorified gender dysphoria and transitioning and almost went down this path. As a 22 year old woman I’m comfortable with my femininity and am soooo glad I did not go down that path

I had almost the exact same experience! I was friends with a lesbian couple in college who were really into tumblr and yaoi and coincidentally both "discovered" they were actually cute gay boys at the same time. At one point, our friend group was 5/7 trans identified females, and we didn't meet through any sort of trans or LGBT group.
To my knowledge, only 1 still identifies as a man. I'm not sure how many of them ended up with surgery, but most of them had testosterone prescriptions.

My sister and I were both tomboys growing up in the 60s and 70s, and my sister is still much more masculine than most men (yet straight). We were talking the other day and I asked her, "If this transgender stuff was going on when we were kids, do you think you would have thought you were a boy?" and she said, "Absolutely. I would have been very susceptible to it."

I'm an engineer living in Spain now, My X wife in the UK is a University Proffesor who teaches Civil Engineering. I've taught several women over the years welding and had a number of very good female assistants, who can use drills, wrenches etc etc.

Do you think in the past women have been restricted from doing jobs that in general are thought of as male assigned and if as a tomboy for example if a girl wanted to be a car mechanic and could be without sexism would there be a need for this gender change thing?

They mostly seem to just be susceptible to peer pressure, and are not accepting themselves like lots of young girls go thru. My sister actually is quite a fine metal fabricator and welder and I do believe she had to be extra skilled at her work to be accepted into that male dominated culture. I spent most of my careers in male dominated professions too. You have to be tough, emotionally, to deal.

Growing up in the early 2000s I was the typical girl Abigail Shrier described : asperger's, no friends, severe anxiety, slight gender disphoria. Now I am pregnant and have a wonderful husband, I am SO glad I wasn't born later. As a confused teen I would definetely have asked to be put on puberty blockers, have breast removal etc.

As I senior in high school I’ve witnessed three different girls commit to transitioning in the way of name changing, head shaving, cross dressing, etc. Over the course of my high school career all three have reverted back to their female image and identity and are now in happy heterosexual relationships. When I was a 15 "unattractive" teenager girl in the 80s, I coped by either joining the punk rockers wearing black clothes and giving the middle finger to the system, and later by joining hippies wearing loose clothes saying that what matters is the spiritual. If I were 15 in 2022, I'd have my "imperfect" boobs removed, colouring my "ugly" hair blue, and calling myself trans. It's that simple.

How I see it, is that, here's a huge difference between being a tomboy and being trans. I myself have been called tomboy since I was young, doesn't mean I have a gender identity issue. I don't experience dysphoria. And I'm ok with being a woman.
I assume you are a man. Try and imagine you were assigned female at birth. And people, family, friends, are on a daily basis reminding you that you are a female. Inside, you will still be the man you are. You will hate your body and everything that reminds you that you were assigned female at birth. You would experience gender dysphoria. You would be trans.
Being a tomboy is "just" having a little bit of "masculine attitude", or having a typically "manly style", corresponding to the idea (and stereotypes) we have about man in our society.

I'm a transgender woman. I came out at 39. I can say that I agree with a lot of what's being said here. Upon going to my FIRST session with a therapist, I was asked if I was interested in getting on hormones. At 39 years old it took me the better part of 3 years of therapy to make sure transitioning was right for me. I'm a grown adult, and that decision took me many months and a professional therapist to decide that I was truly transgender. Teens don't have the maturity and foresight of an adult to make such a life changing decision.
Lots of teens especially girls feel socially lost and isolated. They think no one loves them, and no one is paying attention to them. All they have to do is "come out" as transgender. All of a sudden everyone is giving them attention and cheering them on. There are legitimate transgender people out there. I spent about 25 years trying to not be a woman. I would be a woman in my dreams. If I engaged in feminine activities my anxiety and depression would go away, but that depression stalked me like a beast in the night. I could fend it off for a couple weeks, but eventually it always came back.
We don't have a transgender issue in this country....we have a social issue with our kids, and the powers that be are using my community to victimize kids. I don't know how to fix it...or even influence the problem, but I want everyone to know, many of us transgender people feel exactly like everyone else on this subject. We feel victimized ourselves by being the scapegoat for this manipulation.
Don’t you think it’s wild you was asked at your first session are you interested in hormones it seems like a going to a therapist for something else and they ask at your first session are you interested in taking xanax or whatever drug is meant to ‘help’ your situation? Isn’t that there job to come to that conclusion? Or am I mistaken srsly
@@Dave-nj9te It is wild. That first session was September of 2019. In that FIRST session she gave me a diagnosis of gender dysphoria and referred me to a gender affirming endocrinologist. Because I'm an ADULT...I was mature enough to put that off and find a more conservative therapist. My new therapist worked with me for another two years before we came to the conclusion that I was in fact completely cleared of any mental health issues aside from gender dysphoria, and I confidently went on hormones with one of the best endocrinologist in our state. My biggest fear in one of these days, being transgender will not be "cool" anymore, and all those young people who jump on this crazy train for the wrong reasons, will live a life of pain and regret. I'm not saying every transgender person is wrong for transitioning....it's working for me. But people need to make sure they are doing it because they HAVE to...not because they just WANT to.

Funny, I'm a healthy adult male with low testosterone but cant get treatment from my doctor because it's not "low enough" but a girl can just walk in and get it. Maybe if I identify as a teenage girl they'll hook me up.

When I was a little girl, I learned the word "unisex" from the tag on one of my t-shirts and went around telling everyone that I wasn't a girl, I was "unisex". Nobody thought anything of it, and I grew up into a woman with a balance of feminine and masculine traits, just like everyone else. God forbid I was born in 2015 instead of 1995, I'd probably have been put on puberty blockers.

It's such a fine line for me. Trying to teach my daughter to accept people for who they are. Yet she has a group of girlfriends (aged 15-16) and they all gravitate to the pronouns, and lgbt community, but what I see is them treating it like it's "the Beatles" like it's just the hype for them. I'm trying to open her eyes to the fact that they're just the new version of "mean girls" because if someone doesn't agree with them, or just doesn't agree with everything they say, they shun them and call them bigoted....it's insane!!
The problem is that we shouldn't accept people for who they are. When you start from the baseline that everyone is inherently evil, it becomes clear that we shouldn't accept everyone for who they are.
Jesus Christ tells us to come to Him as we are, but He doesn't want us to *stay* as we are. We are expected to change and follow His will, because what we want and desire is not a good path. All of this transgender stuff is just further evidence of that.

I denied it myself for years. I was transphobic. In school people said I walked feminine so I went around trying to walk like a weight lifter. I had lots of masculine hobbies. I raced motocross and bmx. I tried very hard to fit in as a guy. Until I just couldn't stand it anymore and had to transition.

Fwiw, I'm a straight female - somewhat tomboy-ish at times. A guy seeming more "effeminate" doesn't make him less of a guy in my book. I've known two men like that. They're both straight males. Interestingly, I've known both of them to be more into reading / studying / learning / teaching others. It's been some time since I've last seen one of them, but I think they've both been foodies, too. I know one is. I've appreciated how they've both been a bit more cultured than average. I think it's cool that they felt confident enough as guys to choose the interests they have. = )
I was becoming very asexual around this time in school and developed anorexia instead. Turns out it was just trauma. I have seen a LOT of girls come out as trans or nonbinary because they have experienced trauma or because they didn't fit in. Thanks so much for covering this.

I went through this exact thing when I was 12-14 I thought I was supposed to be a guy. I changed my name and went through quite a bit to make myself more masculine. Later on I realized that wasn't me. I also struggled with anxiety and self harm and I never fit. I think she is completely right, we should not let a child decide to permanently change themselves to someone they may not want to be in a few years.

This is such an important conversation to have. I’m a 27-year-old woman, didn’t realize I might be autistic or start the screening process until I was 25. I have never felt “female”, or any sort of kinship with other women in particular. I just feel like a consciousness stuck in this body I was arbitrarily plopped into. My mannerisms and speech patterns are kind of masculine. But I have absolutely never felt like a male. I just don’t feel female either.
If I was a child now and said that in the presence of the wrong person, (and I likely would since these conversations are being pushed by doctors, in the classroom, and many other spaces,) I would likely be going through life-altering procedures that I could never undo. And if my parents objected, which they would have, they would have been labeled bigots and child abusers. That’s terrifying.
Whuts Uhp Hey, I did have some testing recently that made it look like I have OCD, and I have really severe depression and anxiety, but nothing else. Autism and BPD get misdiagnosed as one another quite a bit because the overly simplistic way autists see the world (not understanding subtext and nuance) looks a lot like the way BPD causes people to switch from love to hate towards someone or something.

My wife works in an eating disorder facility here and I can confirm 100% that the number of trans teens and adults into their 20's with all sorts of eating disorders is off the charts. It's shocking.

I have 5 brothers and was a tomboy. I'm a tomboy now. I suffered mental health/eating disorder, top of the class- sometimes envy men still but that doesnt make me trans lol. I soon realised that it stemmed from how my mum treated my brothers compared to me and how I got treated by men 🤷🏾♀️ Im now a mother to 3 kids and am so glad I didnt convince myself I was actually a male. However I do enjoy being a tomboy and having sons is a great, they get to have a mum who enjoys going on scooter rides ect with them! 😅

Absolutely same. I had an older brother and all my mom wanted was boys. She didn't like girls and I heard that all the time growing up. I was even notably treated different. In response at a young age I was an extreme tomboy and that only annoyed my mother more... and though I still am a tomboy I'm also significantly more feminine... and I continue to struggle with gender issues and sexuality, I'm almost 21. But now days I feel much more comfortable being a female. And embrace more "feminine qualities" so to speak... so to simply put it I feel more like I'm becoming comfortable in my own skin.

I'm the only boy out of 7 kids, I wasn't raised with a father or male role model, I've never came close to considering myself gay or transgender. When I was in middle/highschool though I was emo as shit (tight clothes, eyeliner, took better care of my hair than my dogs), today if I was in highschool I would have been considered a gender other than male.

And not only girls I think, majority of the teenagers go over massive changes in their body and mind so no wonder they feel alienated from themselves, it's hard to keep up with your body changing and mental development as well, you start thinking all new thoughts that are unfamiliar as well.

I think as well that we underestimate the effects of porn on young girls that are probably terrified of what they think is expected of women sexually, and also being confused with their own sexuality because of it. So changing into a boy may seem more logical to them than the reality.

@kuukivi I highly doubt porn is much of a cause for the trans problem, it most certainly badly affects young women but I doubt it affects this issue that much. If it did SO MANY more guys would be becoming trans considering how much more mentally damaging porn is for men and the fact that they have a much problem with loneliness and feeling unwanted.

My brother has dealt with Asperger's syndrome since a very young age. When he was in early high school he spent a lot of time on Tumblr and started to believe that he was transgendered. Not one thing before being exposed to that ludicrous idea would have pointed to such an explanation. He realizes the silliness of it now but it was a hellish time for him back then. Kids are so malleable because they are trying to find their name tag, their identity. Don't give it to them, let them find it.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe the revolutionist acronym on gender minority is now LGBTQIA. Last letters recently added for "Inquiring" and "Asexual" or "Androgynous." What bothers me is that any autistic person who may typically feel androgynous then becomes represented by this minority revolution. Maybe it was done on purpose to include a bigger but possibly unwilling demographic to increase LGBTQIA statistics.

I see so many people on twitter with "14, trans, any pronouns" and i just know how easily influenced and mentally unstable/ vulnerable i was at that age (e.g. doing drugs/ drinking underage cause my friends were doing it) and i just wonder what damage this would do mentally to me if i fell into this "trend"
She explains how I felt, I thought I was a boy from age 4. It never went away until I turned 17 and had a healthy friendship with another girl. I think I had no good female role models, my mother was a narcissist and my older sister bi-polar and both had scarred me emotionally. I felt boys were normal, they had a wolf pack type of relationship, they were smart, always inventing things. I hated my body too, I didn't accept myself from outside because I was traumatised from inside. I'm almost 30 now and only realised few years ago that I carried trauma with me. I feel glad that I could accept myself, it was a slow progress, I thank the people that gave me a different perspective and showed me love.
I wouldn't be surprised if homophobia contributed to your feelings, either. This is obviously just my experience, but out of all the lesbians I know, only 1 had gone through their whole life never "questioning their gender".

Between the age of maybe 6 to 12, I hung out with my brother and his friends and played baseball, football, built treehouses, rode bikes, collected bugs. It was called being a tom-boy. @@moonkraab I can relate too. As a little kid, there weren't any other boys my age around and I mainly hung out with my sisters and their friends, and with neighbors' daughters.. I''d play dolls with them, at my sisters'slumber parties they'd play dress up with me. I started saying I was a girl, that I wanted to water dressed ect. My parents stepped in and told me the truth: I was a boy and nothing could change that.
When I started school, however, I found it difficult to reality to other boys; I wasn't into sports, most of my friends were girls,ect. My confusion lasted until I was nine and saw my sisters go through PMS-amd please don't think this is sexist in any way but to this day stuff like that makes me GLAD to be a man.
As a girl who experienced sexual abuse and had trouble reconciling with that emotional pain and the fear of becoming a woman, I identified as transgender because I thought that I would be too strong to hurt as a man. Of course, that was ridiculous, and I ended up trying to kill myself about a year into that. When I finally made good friends, I came out of it, and I'm now contented with my life as a young woman. The most disturbing part to me, however, is that so many friends who are my age have that exact same story, and that there are so many confused kids that have gone through this but have not been able to come out the other side.
thanks for sharing this, it really emotionally resonated with me and some of my experiences. makes me feel less alone even though i still struggle with gender sometimes despite being 25 now. i still am taking the time to decide what's right for me, but i have close friends now as well as a loving partner who always supports me in my decisions. Yours is one of the best comments. It helps us older folk understand what you went through but it also proves how right we are to say that 'transgenderism' is dangerous. We get "OK boomer/ transphobe/ re-educate yourself" hurled at us by people who've had far less life-experience than we have. We get told 'transgenderism' has always been around, but only because your generation is too young to remember the 'before' time! If it isn't a new and nonsensical invention, that word and all the related ones would be in printed dictionaries, but I have yet to find such words even in the largest late 20th century dictionaries. I'm guessing I'm about 40 years older than you, and no-one ever questioned the sex we were born into in my young days, but we had the same hang-ups about fitting in, and about what we looked like - we were all young once! The same struggles, abuses and traumas have been around for as long as there have been humans; if only more of these girls would talk to older people, they might be surprised at how sympathetic we are and how much we have in common. The only difference is that we didn't have the magic 'sex-change' wand waved at us, for which I am grateful. Perhaps you could get your friends to ask parents/ grandparents what it was like when they were young. I am sorry you were abused but feel the current system is letting girls down badly by not providing enough opportunity for them to talk it through with people they can trust. I'm glad you've come to accept yourself and shown yourself to be a caring person with the wisdom to acknowledge the truth, and wish you the very best for the future.

I was born in 2000, and I am so glad to have had a somewhat normal schooling experience. K-12 was what you'd expect any public schooling to be like. You have the popular kids, the troubled kids, the sporty kids, the shy kids, the smarties and the outcasts/weird kids that just didn't fit in. But you know... most of these kids, no matter the clique they were in... grew up and found themselves/a life/a family.
There was no pronouns, no teachers trying to just advocate their political gender beliefs, etc. I've come to recognize that all these teenagers on TikTok and social media... you can tell they don't fit in at school and that this whole "identity/pronouns" thing is a way to cover up the real issues underneath. Most highschoolers don't know who they are or what they really want to do in life, yet people think it's okay to let them make permanent changes to their gender? A person doesn't figure themselves out, I don't think, until their 20's or later. I am 22 and am just coming around to understanding the things I want in life.
Instead of coping with their emotions, seeking or receiving help from their families... these kids who don't quite understand the deeper issue around things are putting on make up and referring to themselves as "demon/demonself, pixy, pixyself, etc." How does one grow and join the workforce with demon makeup on and identifying like that? Oh, right... the world has chose to warp around these crazy ideologies and accept everyone. When will the line be drawn? When someone identifies as "murderer/murderself"?

This made me cry. Great clip. I feel so sad for all the teenagers trying to desperately define themselves and eventually realising they are failing and committing suicides... I am 42 but when I was a teenage girl I found life incredibly difficult and I wanted to die. I felt like I don’t belong here to this world, this family, this century, this body. Everything was too much and too wrong. Looking at it from the perspective of a few decades I believe the teenage years are incredibly difficult for some and all the hormones fluctuating up and down really ‘help’ young people to do whatever (often wrong choices), in order to somehow define themselves. I felt lost, I was searching for myself. I think that’s what most teenagers do when they are forming their real adult self. As the body is changing the mind has to change and often the mind is still undeveloped and left behind. (I am glad my insecurities were highlighted by magazines and movies only and not by all the social media mess). I wouldn’t make it as a teenager now. The depth of being is lost and the superficially is deforming us all.

I'm probably much older than you & lived far out of reach in a family not influenced even by magazines & movies. My insecurities were only because of my love for women, which was an absolute no-no in the McCarthy days (see Sumner Wells). My fleeting thought/feeling of being a man in a woman's body came only in my hormone-ridden late adolescence, when I physically desired a friend & was mad over it. I removed myself from the situation & only allowed myself to live my desires about ten years later. No regrets.

I remember growing up very sweet and sensitive playing with girls toys wanting to be around and to be one of the girls. Growing into my teenage years this grew into cross dressing, concealing masculinity, finding Internet forums for transgender people. Years later I am so thankful to God that I have found my identity as a man. I still have gender dysphoria and often feel orientated in a feminine direction but I know I was made to be a man and feel grateful that I found that!

One of the reasons these gender transition procedures are so easy to acquire I think (and I am not a very intelligent person) relates to one of the biggest problems of the US medical system. It is not about fixing health problems quickly and efficiently; it is about establishing a consumer a base and selling as much product to that base as possible.

I really appreciate this being talked about because I was one of those girls in my teen years. And when she started listing off all these traits that these girls tend to have, it was like she described me to a tee. I feel so humiliated when I look at my past and remember how I used to identify as male. I'm just really happy that some attention is being brought to this. It most definitely is a phase for a lot of girls.
it’s easier said than done, but i don’t think there’s any reason for you to be humiliated. at the time you identified as male for a reason, you obviously believed it.. now it’s not longer your reality. your past is your past, you eventually figured things out and got to where you are now which is all that matters. it’s a good thing that you can now recognise it was merely a phase for you

I can identify a ton of issues I had in hindsight that lead me to believe I was a boy inside. It’s really messed up. But it does bring me comfort to know that other girls share the same experience.

I was labeled a tomboy and hated how women were looked at, the pressure to wear makeup and dress a certain way along with the disrespect and danger that comes with being a female. I’m so glad I didn’t have the internet as it is today as that combined with depression and anxiety caused by undiagnosed ADHD would have definitely lead to me transitioning to a man before I learned radical self acceptance and how to love my body. It took a lot of turmoil, effort and breaking a leg to get there but I genuinely believe it was worth it. I’d have been one of the girls who transitioned and then realised there were underlying mental disorders I hadn’t addressed and likely regretted the decision.
That’s definitely not to say this is the case with other trans adults. I just think if we got rid of gender stereotypes and took care of mental health, everyone would be better off. Thanks Joe for addressing this almost off limits topic. Open discussions should be allowed on all topics under the sun.
Oh gosh. As someone who's in my 20s and has had gender dysphoria my whole life, I can say without doubt that transitioning will not help me. This is my own experience, and I am 100% in support of adults doing this but not children. If it works for you and you are of age then you have every right to do it. But it doesn't cure and help everyone and more people need to put that into consideration. Good for you for writing this book. I'm glad more people are putting this into light.

@@FruityHachi For me personally, transitioning into a man wouldn't help because deep down I know that I would still not be a man. For me, it would feel like I'm being something that I'm not, which hurts just as much, if not more, than the gender dysphoria. I am not a man. I know I will never truly be a man. That's why I think the suicide rate in trans people after transitioning is still high. The best thing I can do is try to be comfortable in my own skin and love myself the way I am. I can never be the man I want to be but I'm trying to be the best woman I can be. I think it's very important for people who have this same problem to get therapy and learn self-love before considering transitioning. Thank you for asking, I hope I was able to explain myself clearly.

although i don’t have gender dysphoria but i have small boobs and thick thighs and it took me years to love my body the way it is, young women are getting boob jobs not knowing what they’re getting themselves into, all because beauty standards are shoved into our throats instead of self-love

I know of many kids af all ages (children and adolescents), that after just few sessions with a counselor or therapist, and sometimes only one (in many cases), they begin the transitioning process. Watch detranscitioning stories on TH-cam, and you will very surprised... and be extremely worried.
It's hard to be a parent nowadays. If you dont allow you child to transition, you're seen as a bad parent. When you support your child to do it, and the day comes that they regret it, youre also seen as a bad parent for letting that happen. Oh man.
We met a non binary ten year old girl, and it was a genuinely scary experience. It is a learned behavior. She learned it from her mom's friend... She will sadly get a wake up call come puberty.

When I was about 13 I found about the trans movement. I come from a very conservative family thankfully. At that age I was already extremely uncomfortable with my body and hated my chest so as I got older I figured “hey, I’m probably trans but my family will hate me so I can’t come out.” Once I got to be about 17, I started to get more comfortable with my body. I still am a tomboy and wear sports bras most of the time but I’m not scared of my femininity anymore. I think it’s very normal for kids to experience discomfort in their body during puberty but now that it’s a mainstream thing to be trans, it’s getting treated differently
I'm uncomfortable because I'm a bit fat, but I don't think liposuction is a good solution. There are about 1,000,000 better solutions than surgery and hormones.

In our country you can't transition until you're an adult. You also have to undergo therapy etc. It's a stepped process. I have never met a parent pushing a child to transition. Most parents understand the difficulty for their child attempting this. Frankly I think gender reassignment should be left for adults only. The person should be allowed to live and identify with whatever gender they relate to. I wouldn't presume to insist a person live their lives according to societal demands.
Saying thankfully in the context of coming from a conservative family just shows your lack of compassion and intelligence.

I ended up not being transgender but if I was was from a different family, I might have ended up getting treated as transgender and I might not have realized until it was too late. I am aware that not everyone who is transgender has a loving family and I am very compassionate towards them however I am very happy that my family is more conservative because it saved me from doing harm to my body.
Yes, it’s important to recognize that some people do not get the support they need, but it’s also important to not invalidate people who experience it the other way too. I am not ignorant about the struggles many trans people face but I am also not naive about the people who end up detransitioning. You have not lived my life. You do not get to tell me that my experience with realizing that I am just a more masculine woman and not transgender is somehow not acceptable.

This is such a problem for HS. I have worked at a HS for years and over the 5 years has gotten tremendously insane. Suicide is now considered cool. No one is just themselves, their lives have been dictated by being different and social media influenced. These kids do not think about consequences. They do not know what a consequence even is. The deterioration of the kids today’s ability to resolve conflict seems non existent. Internally or externally.
Why don't the schools along with the parents block these social media platforms and online porn on computers and these kids cell phones?
When I was in school I didn't have time for all that stuff. I was too busy with school work, sports and extracurricular activities.
A cousin and I grew up in the same house with our grandparents. She was what we called a tomboy she hated everything feminine. Would wear jeans, t-shirts and sneakers only. She would even slouch a lot to hide her breast. My cousin is now in her 30s and one of the most girly girls. Sometime in her 20s she made a complete 180. She's the one that does our hair and makeup for special occasions. Her closet is the bomb I'm always going through it borrowing her clothes. We would look back at teenage pics and laugh together and she would say Lord what was I thinking in those days. I'm scared today for young women because many of us have that weird awkward phase growing up as we try to figure out who we are. Hormones and body mutilation is not the answer. What we these girls need is time.
I was totally that kid and then puberty hit and I started getting into clothes and boys. I’m still a tomboy in some ways, but I never once that I was a boy because I liked sports and didn’t like dolls very much

Listening to this makes my heart ache. I used to be one of those girls 😢 but I never fully went through with it. Everything else she said was spot on- the loneliness in school, feeling like you don't fit in. I don't know how it didn't kill me, but God do I wanna cry when I see those girls who detransitioned and have to live with the consequences.

My friend daughter is about to start testosterone next week. 15 years old. She's high functioning autistic and has anxiety and depression. Went to one doctor's appt and one counseling session and they approved. I asked her mom to research and take her time deciding, but it's all in the works. Her daughter talks excitedly about a double mastectomy... my mom had one from aggressive breast cancer and it pisses me off that this is so lightly trapped about, like a new tattoo or something!

I think the surgeons who just do the surgery with a waver just want the money, and they’re hiding behind the whole “I’m giving them what they want” line. To me, if you really cared, you would make sure they were in the proper mental state before the surgery.

She really hits on something that I see as prevalent in society today, particularly with the younger generations. I think there is an extreme struggle with people finding meaning in their lives. This does not encompass every person, obviously, but the large movement away from religion and family leaves a gaping whole where many people might find that meaning. I think that desire for meaning is driving people to these causes, which in my eyes are mostly manufactured. I’m not going to elaborate beyond that, but think it leads to a lot of young people being misled and deceived.

I actually noticed this when I was in high school. This was before trans was a thing but I hung out with the loners (kids with troubled home lives) and they were ALL bisexual. Like it was the thing to do in this friend group. Eventually They would all "come out" as bi. I at one point thought I was bi too, until I later realized I was just lonely and emotionally unfulfilled
My daughters have lots of classmates who are choosing this path like it’s a “book of the month” decision. They’re acting like it’s as benign as a tattoo.

Gender isn't a physical thing, that's sex. Anyone can change gender and truly become a person of another gender from what they were prior. That's the way it's been for thousands of years. Seriously, there have been trans people across all different cultures all over the world throughout human history. And many cultures were acceptant of it. Also, it's been proven be a biological condition in certain people's brains. I think there is a big issue with it becoming somewhat of a trend in teenagers at the moment but that shouldn't confuse people into thinking the whole thing is a sham.

That's the same thing as getting tattoos or piercings when ur in rebel-teen mode! This is so heartbreaking. Being female during preteen/puberty years is hard. The hormone levels in your body start changing and your emotions and temperament get fucked up. Your body hurts and you don’t feel beautiful. My mother wasn’t present in my life but I was gifted this American Girl book called “You” or something like that and it was great. It encouraged young girls to love their bodies and the changes it’s going through. Now they are encouraged to mutilate themselves under the guise of self acceptance and self love. It’s truly saddening. I’m really disappointed in my generation for allowing this to happen to their kids.
