One year my middle son went trick or treating as Spielman. He is a real inspiration on and off the field.

Love this story about Chris Spielman. He did an internship at my high school my senior year 85-86 at Whitehall Yearling, I remember me and my classmates didn't eat lunch for the 6 weeks or so while Chris was at our highschool because he played basketball during lunch so that's where we all were, just watching and loving him being at our school. I have followed his career and life since than and though I have never met him personally, just watching him on interviews you can just tell the kind of person he is. The love for football/the buckeyes, and his family. Wow. The love he had for his wife and her journey with cancer, you could only hope and pray for someone like that in your corner. Thank you Chris

Chris Spielman is a role model for role models. His priorities are on point I just wish he could have grown old with his wife. 100% dedication in all that he did. He's also an excellent college football analyst.

Spielman is the college football player equivalent of the Toledo Mud Hens. Both are loved by Ohio and Michigan fans alike. Very few can claim that.

Spielman reminds me of Zac Thomas. He had natural instincts and was always around the football. He was relentless his motor never stopped Chris was exactly like Zac Thomas.

They played different positions, but Chris Spielman reminds me of Jim Stillwagon. Both undersized and not the fastest, but they were both relentless.

This is a GREAT series for me; I live in NYC, we don't get college football history stuff at all. Unless its ESPN; and HBO did a great "Michigan V Ohio State; The Rivalry" Documentary.
1996, 2002, 2014 Buckeyes have episodes. Wish it was A) 44 minutes; one hour episodes; B) MORE Game footage!! We're football junkies; everybody who is going to sit through episodes; but the NFL Films and college football history producers record and air too much talking and not enough action. Let the interview answers NARRATE the action! Chris Spielman and his wife's story needs to be told though. But I need more Chris Spielman tackles for loss; block destruction, and laying the wood on ball carriers.

Too bad Ohio State couldn't have played better Offense during Spielman years. All 4 teams should have done better.

C'mon -- I have heard Speilman tell the story himself that he told his dad he was going to Fishigan and his dad said "You're going down route 71 to Columbus"

So what you are telling everyone is that you never made a bad decision when you were 17-18? Sometimes we need the logic of our parents to knock some sense into our heads. I bet you never heard Chris say he had any regrets playing for the Buckeyes.

The mother in law lives in that state up north. I've visited once it of respect. She knows I know the state up north sucks. I have two sons who have never worn and will never wear anything maize seems blue. When both were first speaking, I taught them to say, "Michigan sucks". Not "Mama" not "Dada" but "Michigan sucks!". Woody would be very proud.

Mike Mercer - that’s what you’re telling everyone - not me. What I am saying is that this documentary misses is that he wasn’t on a one-way highway to Ohio State. That makes the story more interesting and doesn’t detract at all from his Buckeye glory.

I wish there were more plays of Spielman in this episode. Unfortunately; having seen "A Football Life" I know how the wife story ends. It's so sad, his marriage so strong, its so rare that a couple married young grows together instead of blowing apart. Most NFL marriages that begin before joining NFL end because Guy sees too many options. Marriages that begin during the NFL player careers end shortly after retirement. Dudes are depressed they lose their identity; wives like I'm not dealing with this husband's not even famous anymore and he has no income trying to figure out next move. She's a trophy wife; expects attention and cameras; and that's all at an end.
What's a 25 year old athlete going to do; NOT date women with movie star looks? Because dating them means taking the risk of falling for them; and they're GOING to be perfect girlfriends out of fear; the power is one sided; he can choose anybody. So can she. Career's over, he cant choose ANY girl he likes, not anymore. 'Love' Relationships especially young are so much about power and value. The Love she feels is the Love of Value; the love of gaining value. It's as Real a feeling as 'True Love'; they can't help falling out of it when the Value they loved is gone. And the love of a typical testosterone driven young male? It's real but its very sexual in nature; so its just as conditional. But Not Chris Spielman. It's often the tragedy that men and women like the Spielman's dont find eachother; they find themselves with the OTHERs...
