Firefighters plan ahead to protect people, its why the cities architecture is built around them so they can maintain it, and the police make due with whatever they have to violate people.

I got to stay at the fire station for 13 hours during my ambulance ride along as an EMT student. The guys were on their phones or watching movies/shows throughout the day and some were working out. They have it easy but hard at the same time. You get to really relax but at the same time a call happens instantly so you can be doing nothing and than your running into full gear/rushing to the scene. Paramedics are the main guys running in and out throughout the day but firefighters got their fair share as well. Many calls in the wacker area were OD's or nothing serious but it was interesting. The main issue is calls can happen as soon as you get back or as soon as you switched rooms etc. calls are random.
