"Template of Doom". "Belly Clamp". "Pound like a troll". You really raised the bar on many levels from the project work to the commentary. Well done Drew!
@@FishersShopAwesome video! Just like all your others! I loved your comments about using your gut vise and the fact that you decided to use your hands to pound the pieces in even though your mallet was right behind you. I think we all do things like that. 😅
What a great game! Wish we had this when I was a kid. Might just build it for the nieces and nephews! Excellent salvage work at your neighbor’s house, as always.
I've played skittles but that's just a miniature ten pin bowling often with a tethered ball suspended from a post that you aim at the skittles. This is a while new level ...for me in the UK, that is...what brilliant fun. Shame I don't have your talent and no longer possess a gut vice, hey ho, I hope you show us more games I could happily watch videos of that chaos! Another fun video, thanks Drew.👍
Hey Drew! Just an observation, Back in the 60s, I remember "helping" my woodworker Uncle as he built one of these games for my 14 year old self. I was in charge of the top and remember that his version has the disc portion being lower down on the dowel. Like maybe half way. 69 year old me realizes that this lowered the center of gravity of the top and helped it to spin longer and with a little less wobble. I do plan on building your version with that one change. I might need to change the shape of the partition openings as well. As always, thanks sharing your expertise and your humor with us. My Fisher's flip cart is for sure the most used item in my little shop!
For 11:40 minutes I kept asking myself if the neighbor would donate anything to this project, obviously the neighbor never let us down. Very cool project, well done.
I have one of these games in my closet from when I was a kid, 60 years ago. I have wanted to make one for each of my four kids and the grand kids, I think this will motivate me to finally build them, great build.
We had a set in the 70s that we bought somewhere in New England. It had stayed in my minds eye as “Skiddidle” and then I tried another spelling and here it is! Trippin out from ‘76.
That 100 pin was robbery! The board looks really great! My wife is trying to convince me to build one, and I’m arguing we need a onefinity machine to make those pins. :)
Yes you should build one! And I do recommend them 1F for sure, but you really don't need to make the pins like I did. Even a straight 1" dowel will work just fine.
What a great build!! It does bring back a memory or two. Enjoyed watching your son delight over the game and the crazy route of the spinner. You let your neighbor off easy this time.
Lots of fond memories playing this at my grandmas house as a kid. I also remember if you wrapped the top wrong, it would pull the whole board and just knock down all the pins at the same time.
That’s amazing!! I played hours of that game as a kid. We used to get so upset at the little cousins when they would pull too hard and yank the entire board around, causing the pins to all fall over. Good times. 😂
Your narration is just the BEST. In all the restoration and DIY videos I've watched (and believe it or not, I've seen A LOT) your narration is award winning 😂
My Uncle had one of these that he also obtained from a local college woodshop up in New York. It is loads of fun and we would play it for hours over Thanksgiving. I have been wanting to build a board for myself for years but I just never seem to get around to remembering to do it. I will definitely be doing one now! Thanks for the reminder 🙂 Love all your videos by the way! Keep it up!!!
MORE GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE PLEASE !!! This game is awesome. Very fun to watch. Maybe start a League or somehting 😀 Fantastic woodworking skills. As always. I especially liked the use of the Gut Vise 😀
I have this game! The version with the blue board. We used to play it all the time when I was a kid in the late 80s too. I'm surprised anyone else remembers it
Love it very cool. Use to play a billiard type game with my grandfather so I can understand the nostalgic part of remembering. Enjoyed vid and have subbed.
Hola! 🖐I was not aware of this game, I never knew this existed till today. When I saw the Title "Skittles" I was sure it was some kind of gag BUT NO!!! This looks like it's loads of fun. I'll have to put this in the memory bank and build when I'm set up and running. By the way, I was going to compliment you on overcoming your "Princess Hands" when you pounded those pieces with your hand mallets but then nope, the outtakes brought you right back :D I also have one of them gut vises, very portable. Love that shirt "Third Coast Craftsman". Thanks for the video, great job. Take care and have a good one, Adios.👊
I remember that Popular Mechanics article. I wanted to build it then, but I was a kid with no workshop. I think I've still got a scan of it somewhere. I think my Great Grandkids might like this. If you don't want short pieces to spin and hit you, put a C clamp In the direction the part will turn. Or if it's big enough, just clamp it to the press. I would also use my laser to cut out the room templates.
I remember playing this in the early 70's when on a winter vacation in the Rockies. Was definitely one of the more popular games in the lodge game room. I have been thinking about building one for a long time but since I don't have a lathe (or a CNC :(), I always put it on a back-burner. The most daunting part for me was to get a good spinning top. Your version is fairly simple, but does seem to work well. From a physics perspective, putting the mass lower on the shaft would probably give better stability though.
From what I understand, you don't want it to be really stable otherwise it just sits in one place and spins until it dies out. With the mass higher, it tends to lean and wander more, which is good in this case.
@@FishersShop The top's lateral movement will happen due to slight friction with the surface and the occasional bumping into pins and walls. You need to apply a force in the direction it will travel and wobbling or tilt won't cause it wander if the shaft has a point on the end. Putting the mass lower will allow the top to spin longer, increasing the chance of hitting something and changing trajectory. I guess the higher mass position was a design choice to make the turns shorter for kids with limited patience.
I think it’s a tie for the best part of this video…the build and the Vandelay Industries tee 😂 Might have to get one to add to my WKRP Turkey drop t-shirt.
For those like me with no lathe, wooden skittles can be purchased online. Making them would be cool and all, but for me I'd rather buy them this decade instead.
I never heard of this game, but it reminds me of a game we had when I was a kid called Battling Tops. As I recall, the ring was slightly concave and about 16" in diameter. Up to four tops could be launched at once, and the last one standing was the winner. Any of you old timers remember that game? How about the names of the tops? Only one I remember is Hurricane Hank 😊
I've never heard of this game but it looks like so much fun!!! Great job on making it and as always, thanks for all the laughs along the way. Loved your "gut vise" and the string from your neighbor's sweater! I'm sure you and your son will have endless hours of fun playing this game. He will then have the same fun memories of it when he grows up that you do.
@@FishersShop Bet your wife enjoys having 2 kids! BTW, I would be VERY interested in your proposed garage renovation. I'd love to buy the plans to do mine. I know they would be great plans coming from you and it's something I've been wanting to do.

Amazing work. You are a great craftsman and father man. So great to see these videos instead of the current TH-cam stuff.
Thank you very much!
