Gosh, where did the time go? Missed this movie at the theater and couldnt wait for it to come out on cable. Threw a pizza and beer party and we watched it. It was worth the wait.
True, but depends on the circumstances. Some people have crapy lives from day one. No matter what, everyone has just 1 life and that's that. Absolutely no proof of a second life for anyone.
This came out during the war on drug era so they weren’t going to give it to him for a movie about drugs. I’m black and I think Denzel should have gotten it for Malcom X not Training Day. Al has gotten his awards for so many other movies with substance. They gave it too Denzel for Training Day because it came to a point that they could no longer deny his talent with a straight face.
I liked the way this was put together by THEN AND NOW.. this is the first time I've seen a THEN AND NOW video put together by cast of a movie. Brilliant idea! I would love to see more of these THEN AND NOW videos especially the way this was done. KUDOS. One thing though..the music was too overbearing. Try a soft guitar or a percussion next time.
He didnt receive an Oscar nod because, truth told, when viewed critically, he was horrible in the role. Nowhere near Hopkins' Hannibal or Denzel's Academy Award winning turn in Training Day. Pacino was wholly unconvincing and a completely false cinematic characature of a Cuban. His Spanish was awful. What's "a chivano on every corner?" The word is Chivato. (Spanish for snitch) His "Cuban" tinged English accent was even more pathetic and those paralyzed cokehead faces he had to make to speak in that fake accent, made his character look even worse on the screen. He should have at least tried to mimmick Esteban Echevarria aka Steven Bauer's accent which is authentically Cuban. If The Academy created a lifetime achievement award for best unintended comedic role, Al Pacino's Tony Montana would definitely get the vote of anyone on the panel. However, considering this role as a serious contender for an Oscar in any serious acting category as it stands, the Academy was correct in their decision to overlook Pacino as Scarface. It's a severely overrated role in a severely overrated movie with no cinematic merit whatsoever. Poor pacing, terrible plot, awful character development, bad dialogue coaching and what appeared to be far too many improvised scenes. What's the enduring legacy of this film? Who knows? I think Rick James put it best: "Cocaine is a hell of a drug."
