    7800 games use two extra rows of pins on either side of the cartridge. The system can tell if a 7800 game or a 2600 game is in the system based on if they have the pins or not.

      @@RetroGamesRediscovered The original 7800 hardware also differs from the 2600 hardware in that there is a plastic boot of sorts around the cartridge connector, deep seated into the console that first party Atari-produced 2600 games and 7800 games, but can cause third party games, namely those from imagic, to become very difficult to insert and remove. The 2600+ having solved this issue is why Atari advertises it so heavily. The 2600 and 2600+ have a wider cartridge bay to accoidate differences in 2600 cart design by different third parties.

    The Original. The 2600+ is just an emulator box like the Snes and the Megadrive mini.

    FYI crossbow for the 7800 is not playable on the 2600+ Atari claims it works they are wrong several attempts with different cartridges all the same outcome
