I did miss out on this game back in the day. Looks to use the same graphics engine as Gods although compared to that game Magic Pockets seems more fair in its difficulty. I do like nice, relaxing games. Using Betty Boo music kind of makes sense in that both this character and Betty Boo are supposed to be rebellious and cool. 😎

Personally I have a real soft spot for Jurassic Park! I think it captured the atmosphere of the film well, looks and sounds good, and I like it when games mix up the game styles between 2D and 3D levels. And I just love dinosaurs so Jurassic Park is one of my favourite franchises.

The 500 was the "original", so the thing became popular and ‘everyone’ wanted it. But the 1200 was the step from the 80s into the 90s. Unfortunately, we needed someone to explain to the Commodore managers that you can't rest on your laurels; the next big thing should have come soon, but it didn't. An A1200 could no longer really keep up with a 486.

IIRC, It was just a shift register and XOR gate combined so that a shifted out value of bits would give a certain pattern when read back in. Pretty simple, but even then, easily bypassed in the code itself.

I got my A500 sometime in 1988 and did several mods to it over the years. I had no idea that A1200 existed other than A500, A1000, A2000, A3000 and A4000. Wish I did as I would have upgraded. Probably due to lack of availability in USA. Ah well. Now I'm full time Linux user and alot of the mount commands are similar. Good times!

Always made me laugh the speech at the intro of Robocop, especially the very Irish Directive 2, ‘Protect the Innocent’. Funnily enough, many years after the photo of the Ocean staff at the start was taken I worked at an altogether different company in Manchester with the shorter guy on the front row wearing the thin tie (Lee Cowley). Nice chap.

I bought a raspberry Pi 4+ in the case and just turned it into an Amiga. It boots straight into an Amiga with a 256Gb hard drive. Can run any software (at least I've never found an Amiga game or app it won't run) at whatever speed. 68000, 68010, 68020, 68030, 68040, with a maths co-processor (or not) 16 mb ram. I had an A500 and A500+ later back int he early 90's. I was gutted when X:Com UFO Defence came out and was terrible to run even with 2 disk drives and expanded trapdoor RAM. Now it runs from hard drive and I can see why everyone loved it. :)

Except for Batman, and maybe Robocop (though still mediocre compared to the arcade), these we're all typical licensed movie, euro jank. Unpolished gameplay, difficulty and bad controls. Robocop 3 was impressive technically, but still not very good. The disappointment, buying T2 after watching the movie, was devastating. Luckily I was able to return it. Some of these, like Darkman and Red Heat, were terrible. I liked Batman The Movie, but I could never beat the driving segment without using unlimited time. Maybe it was a problem with my pirated copy, but I always ran out of time, no matter how perfectly I drove.

Thanks for your comment! I have to say, I quite enjoyed driving the Batmobile, but you’re right - the whole game was seriously challenging! @@RetroGamesRediscovered I liked all the parts of Batman The Movie, with the exception of the middle, puzzle part where you have to figure out the proper products. It really felt out of place. With practice, i was able to complete the first level without cheating, but I could never finish the driving level. I've watched videos of people playing it without cheating and they crash a few times, miss turns, and yet they still make it. I played the hell out of that level, until I could do it almost perfectly, hitting maybe one car and only missing 1-2 turns, but I'd always run out of time. I did a completely unscientific analysis, where I drove at top speed, watched how much the distance went down compared to the timer, and concluded that the time limit was too short. It's possible that my copy was PAL (even though it seemed to run correctly in NTSC) and maybe the timer was counting down faster than it should have been. I've been meaning to test it again under emulation, with an untouched IPF disk image of an original, but I never seem to get around to it.

The statement of the A1000 coming with 256 kb of RAM is wrong. The A1000 has 256 kb on the mainboard but Commodore shipped those with an extra memory expansion right out of the box. 2x 8 pcs of 4464 RAMs. Looks like they saw what Atari didn't, the 260ST coudln't do anything with it's 256k and TOS/GEM loaded from floppy. Later mainboard revisions of the A1000 had the full 512k on it, the first model had a 256k RAM module behind the front cover in the middle I have both here, A1000-The VERY first mobo with the ceramic chipset, and two A500s...and I was an old A500 user back in the day. ^.^

Thanks so much for the detailed info! You’re absolutely right about the A1000’s RAM - the 256 KB on the mainboard plus the memory expansion makes a big difference, especially compared to systems like the Atari 260ST. It’s always fascinating to see how Commodore approached things back then. Sounds like you have an amazing collection with both the A1000 (especially that early model with the ceramic chipset!) and the A500s. Really appreciate your insights - it’s always great to hear from someone with as much Amiga passion as me! 😊

This is a great topic and you've covered it really well. It's worth noting that in most of these Oceans titles, you often got 2 or 3 different game play styles in the one game. My favourite remains Batman, with Robocop coming close second. Love this video. Great work. Will share it on the Perth Amiga user group.

Thanks so much for your comment, 005Agima! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. You’re absolutely right - Ocean did an impressive job mixing gameplay styles in a single game, which kept things fresh and exciting! Batman and RoboCop are top picks for sure, such iconic games with plenty of variety. Thanks for sharing it with the Perth Amiga user group - much appreciated! 😊

Great video from the powerhouse that was ocean. Think in platoon the machine gun sample sound was knicked from the pulse rifle in aliens U missed navy seals which was pretty good Think generally ocean faired better in quality on the 8 bit machines , they seem to struggle with the higher quality expected for a game selling at 25 quid

Thanks for your comment! Ocean was indeed a powerhouse, and it’s impressive how they managed to bring in those iconic sounds - spot on about the machine gun sound in Platoon resembling the pulse rifle from Aliens! And great spot on Navy Seals, I’d actually forgotten about that one! It was another solid movie game that really captured the action. I think you’re right about Ocean’s strengths on the 8-bit machines too - the jump to the Amiga came with higher expectations, especially with games selling at the price they did, I guess some of them were worth it when they were released under the Hit Squad! Appreciate the insights and thanks for watching! 🎮😊

Robocop 3 was technically amazing but the difficulty curve on it was crazy after about an hour of play missions were near impossible.

Thanks for your comment! Completely agree - RoboCop 3 really pushed the technical limits for its time, but that difficulty was brutal! It’s definitely one of those games that tested players’ patience and skills. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts - glad you enjoyed the video! 🕹️💪

At least Robocop 3 had more than hour of something to play whereas for example Terminator 2 just didn't :)

I have played so many of the movie tie-ins from Ocean on my Amiga 500 😺👍🕹️ - except LETHAL WEAPON, COOL WORLD and DARKMAN 😹. And to be honest, these are some of my favorite games on the Commodore 64 Amiga: - BATMAN: THE MOVIE - PLATOON - TOTAL RECALL - HUDSON HAWK - HOOK - ROBOCOP 2 - ROBOCOP 3 - THE UNTOUCHABLES - NIGHTBREED: THE INTERACTIVE MOVIE A big retrospective like 👍🕹️ from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.

Thanks so much for your comment! 😊 It’s always great to hear from fellow fans of Ocean’s classic movie tie-ins on the Amiga 500 - and what a brilliant list of favourites you’ve got there! Batman: The Movie, Platoon, and RoboCop are all iconic, and it’s amazing how these games still hold up. If you ever get the chance to try Lethal Weapon, Cool World, or Darkman, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Thanks for tuning in from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮 - happy gaming! 🕹️🎮

While this is the "leftovers" cart for the Bitmap Bros (the best games were on Collection 1), the versions are at least the original Amiga versions this time around rather than the terrible console ports (special mention to the dreadful Master System port of Speedball). Chaos Engine 2 is easily the worst game BB did, absolutely dreadful. Z being the PSX version though is understandable given that it's unlikely that the Evercade has the horsepower to run DOSBox and it lends itself more to the Evercade's controller.

      @RetroGamesRediscovered 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

Thanks for your comment! I actually think this collection stands strong on its own with some great games included - I don’t see it as the 'leftovers' cart at all! It’s definitely a bonus to have the original Amiga versions instead of the console ports, though, and I totally understand the choice of Z on the PSX given the Evercade’s limitations. Always good to hear different takes on the collection - appreciate you sharing your thoughts!
