Remember how great we all felt a quarter century ago during Expo '86? Everyone had so much optimism, like whole world was suddenly ours. We had our party and our new rail transit system. Suddenly we felt like a big, modern, happening city. I still feel that good when I see and hear a Mark I train set enter the station. Vancouver rocks!
If you come back here in Vancouver, you will see the new mark 3 skytrains! The mark 3 skytrains look diffrent, they are 4 car open gangway, lots of room, they have the same motor as the 2009 mark 2 skytrains, their technolgy is simmilar to the 2009 mark 2 skytrains, but they have LED displays at each end of the train indicating the destination. Some simmilar features they have to the Canada Line EMUs, a large window at the front, there is a row of seats of seats removed for more standing room and to make room for bicycles and baby strollers. There are 28 cars in total (7 sets total). Fleet numbers are labeled 401-428.
Great video! Excellent camera skills. I rode on the skytrain many times. Many times I rode the whole route, just to use up the left over time on my ticket. I hope they don't dispose of the older skytrain cars, they sound the best, compared to the new ones.
As an add-on, I was in Vancouver in March of this year and did video from the head end of the entire Skytrain network (Canada Line included). Clips from the Millennium and Expo lines are posted elsewhere on my channel list.....
The Evergreen Line got the go-ahead for construction, I hear. Completion to be either 2016 or 2017. It will join the Millennium Line at Lougheed Town Centre, and Evergreen trains will replace Millennium service between there and VCC-Clark, with Millennium trains running only between Waterfront and Lougheed.
There's probably a timer (for how long until the doors close) that is set at each station; if not, then it's most likely the Skytrain employees that are using the security cameras at the stations and they decide when to close the doors
Sorry, didn't mean to rain on your nostalgia, I'm sure it's really a nice feeling you remember. I wasn't here, but I have been to Japan and I'm just saying, compared to Vancouver, most of Japan is so far more beautiful and the trains are so much better that for ME there is no comparison. I know Vancouver is relatively young and it's exciting for a city to grow up so fast, but where have we gone since then? Half of Vancouver is now Chinese and the skytrain is pretty much the same as 25 yeas ago.
Gee whiz what provoked this bitter rant? I love my city, why are you dumping on me for that? Yes I have heard of Davie, I live two blocks from it on Cardero. Rant on all you care to this is all I plan to say in reply. Hope the rest of your day is brighter!
Sounds like the feeling the Japanese had a half a century ago, when they opened up their "shinkansen" train service in October of 1964 -- yes, that's right, nineteen sixty four, which had a top speed of about 270km/hr. That's more than 3 times the speed of our skytrain, a quarter century before we even had the skytrain! Ya man, Vancouver totally kicks ass man... at... uhh.... bums... crack... and starbucks. Ya man.. ya!! Like, haven't you heard about Davie street man??!! Like OMG!!!!!!!

The video is about King George trains arriving at main Street in Vancouver BC
The sounds of the train are music. I moved from Vancity 5 years ago and I still miss the Skytrain
The linear induction part is all I know for sure, and the strip between the rails has a part in that...

And THAT is what I was waiting for before I came back out there! Thanks for the info!
@LIRR175
The same way elevators know when to close the doors. They just do it, if you're in the way, the doors open again.
Ernie Dunbar somethimes the door does not open agian but the train will not move if the doors are obstructed
The sound of those electric motors as the trains accelerate is absolutely incredible! I don't understand why Sci-Fi movie directors haven't caught on.
SkyTrain!
Great video! Excellent camera skills.

Fun fact that is actually a model of the line 3 STC train
Where does the skytrain takes place?
This system is in Vancouver, B.C.
@@trainman1971 so is it in Canada

Awww can you Make A Amtrak Train Video
I've been to Vancouver three times since April of 2011 and I have to agree! Awesome city!
@LIRR175 All timed by computer. If you miss a train, it's 2 to 4 minutes till the next one.
WOW great video, I really like the perspective like your reallly there but "just as a commuter" feel. Nice work :D
😢😮😅😊😂🎉❤

Random comment- why don't they put ads on the Mark 2's and "Mark 3's" (evergeen line train)? besides the ad wrap of the anniversary thing.
Thanks :)
Thanks! :D

What a beautiful transit system and the largest driverless system in the world. Canada's pride.
It seems like they didn't finish painting car #155 and the other side of 156.
I like the sounds of the sky trains
I miss 2011 and the bc transit logo bty this is sahib
I got video of the Mark I's the TTC uses on the Scarborough RT as well. Ahhh, it's not the same.. .the TTC cars are more worn out from heavy use...
I wish they would run 6-cars more often
I did not notice that until you mentioned it!
2:04 SYSTEM SYSTEM BLOWER SYSTEM BLOWVER
It's in one of my Toronto subway vids... Part 1 or 2, I forget which...
Too bad they only do it during rush hour with the MARK-I cars. I may try to get some 6-car footage when I get back out there in July....
The Skytrain goes to surrey
That, I do not know.
Pretty cool!
If it's 100% automated, how does it know when to close the doors?

Justin M. i think its a timmer because the doors closed on me once
🌭🍟
Yes, true true! lol..
