Some info on the Skytrain System. The first section from Downtown Vancouver to New Westminster opened in time for Expo 86 in 1986. It was the first or one of the first fully automated computer controlled rapid transit systems in the world. I believe the system was running in 1984 in another City in Canada but it had drivers unlike ours. The system uses a induction motor, magnets that pull the trains along a center guide rail. That was a Mk1 train, the original from 86. Old but reliable.
@@transportationland6395 I was pretty sure in 1985 it was just testing. Opening date for the first public riders was 1986. The difference between Ontario and BC is from day one it was a driverless system. Ontario had the ability to be driverless but didn’t go that way.
@@transportationland6395 I’ll just correct myself. Full regular service in January. Opened December 11, 1985, with free weekend service, and entered full revenue service on January 3, 1986.[7][8]
The system in 1984 was the Scarborough RT, in what is now part of the TTC subway system, next year is the last service year for the RT, it's been decomissioned, and is to be replaced with a new system by 2015.
Probably "one of the first" but I confirm that it's not the first : The first is Lille's Subway. LIlle's Subway, since its creation in 1983 does work with VAL trains, which are automated trains on pneumatic wheels. The VAL, which the name is the initiales of "Light Automated Vehicle" in French, was first called like this for "Villeneuve d'Ascq - Lille", because Lille's Subway could go all the way to Villeneuve d'Ascq :)
nostalgic sounds when i used to live in Vancouver
LOVE those noisy old box trains
The flip down seat on the Mark I is the best seat on the whole line!
No the mark 2 seat is nicer!!!
From 2002
bagelboi66 ya I agree mark 1 flip seats aee better but someone decided to do the complete opposite of your opinion
The Mark I trains don't run on the Millennium Line anymore. They run exclusively on the Expo line after October 22, 2016
I love the Mark I motor startup!

huzur79 is ugly
It was 1985 but yes, Toronto's trains are automatic but have drivers to control the doors. It is the Line 3 Scarborough RT

Why do they have to repaint the mark 1s keep it original and have that blue white and red colour scheme
They also have to rewind the linear motors and change seats and doors and many other things.
