If you couldn’t get into Dragon’s Dogma I don’t know how you’d get into this one. Everything I’ve seen so far tells me that Dragons Dogma 2 is the full realization of the first as a whole rather than a real sequel with new stuff. It’s the same game but everything brought to its fullest the way the devs wanted to do with the first one.

    • @Brekner

Well, I think the next DD game will actually be the one to realize their vision. By then we'll be able to get fully A.I. driven NPCs and pawns, with thousands upon thousands of voice lines and the ability to even use voice chat to talk to them. While I'm sure this is going to be a fine game, the one I'm mega-excited to play is the next one :D

Tastes can be weird sometimes. You can see people saying for example that they enjoyed AC Odyssey and hated AC Valhalla (or viceversa) even though when you look up the gameplay it looks almost the same at it's core. DD2 might make some things just better enough to convince players who didn't like the first game to like it but it can also do some things just worse enough to make players who loved original DD hate the new one.

    • @antonytomas1
      @antonytomas1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +43

That's silly. The first DD isn't popular because it mostly flew under the radar and was overshadowed in the media by Dragon Age Inquisition and then Witcher 3. Just because a lot of people didn't play it doesn't mean it wouldn't have appealed to them if they had. Why is the DD fanbases so insistent on preventing new people from finding out about the franchise?

This was one of the first things to Mod out of the PC Version. Same goes for the stupid Levelup Class Attributes. If you enjoyed playing as a strider or warrior in the early game. You have effectively killed any chance to play as a strong mage later on. Because you never leveled Magic Power early on when it mattered. And vise versa.
Play as a mage early game and change to a warrior? Good luck not getting one shotted, because you lack a ton of HP. Because you leveled wrong.... this is most incompetent game design before the lord!

It seems there is a lot of misconception about fast travel, fast travel IS in the game but it's a mechanic in itself, it's been confirmed that ferrystones are in the game, for those who don't know ferrystones are a consumable item that allows fast travel to specific locations or portcrystals the player places in advance, in the original game after your first play trought you basically set your own fast travel spots in the world and had virtually infinite fast travels, so I am fairly confident this system will be the same in the sequel.
You won't be able to fast travel straight away at the start but you'll have to use carts or carefully place your port crystals once you get deeper into the game

Dragon's Dogma 1 had the same fast travel system and I never hear about people complaining about the travel because traveling in game is part of the experience. I feel like no fast travel has merit. Many of the most memorable moments for me, in open world games, came from wandering on foot. Luke made a good point about the dev team being able to focus on the fact that players will go through here on foot.

One of the reasons I had a special rule during my Skyrim playthrough. Either fast travel towards the quest objective *or* on the trip back to town. But never both. Much more immersive and I had a lot of fun with all the small encounters in between (being very deadly as well as I was using the Requiem mod).

    • @itsmedjoom987
      @itsmedjoom987 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

I love how they rlly did this for RDR2. The fast travel you have to pay for and isn’t “efficient” so it forces the player through most of the game to ride on horseback and just, experience the game. Which for some, can be boring, but I disagree. It’s both an easy, but also a sure way for players to see the rich world in RDR2 and find little things while fucking around or just going to a place. Oddly for me it made me even more immersed into the game and world.

    • @mhjmstultiens

@@itsmedjoom987 Not strange at all. I understand the convenience inn our often hurried consumption lifestyle (even gaming many people just run like crazy past nice scenery), but if you really want to immerse yourself or get a feel for distances between places in a gaming world limiting fast travel options either through limited access or role playing explanation (as in: try to explain to yourself why your character should teleport) is the way to go. I believe this is the right choice for DD2.

I got a wild hair and decided to redownload it.
So, I was playing through it again. Nostalgia was strong. Gameplay was awesome. It was such a good experience.
And there I was, running through the city and Elizabeth says, "Mr. Booker. May I please have a moment?"
I stopped, looked at her and Booker said, "Sure, what would you like to talk about?"
Elizabeth then pointed at a nearby tavern, "I do believe a saw a stockpile of supplies over in that building. Perhaps we should check that out?"
And it just...floored me. That's crazy good design. To have a character exist alongside you and have her own agency enough to request your time politely and explain that you might have missed something. No map markers. No quest log. No glowing fairy farting a trail of dust. Your companion communicated something to you that she would have realistically noticed. That's what I like in my open world games, and it feels rare. It's just bloat that you don't need or want. Put me in the world and let the world and characters guide me on my own terms.

I was thinking about this when i played the first Dragon's Dogma and got my bearings with it's fast travel sistem, it actually made sense in the world that was built around me and it nudged itself as a gameplay element as well, given the fact that Port Crystals and Ferry Stones are a limited resource, it actively encouraged the player to really think about where they wanted to fast travel and how often they could do so. That beeing said, while it was in general exciting to travel through the world, because there's always something happening in the map, after you go through the same harpy encounter for the SEVENTH time, in the exact same spot of the terrain, it gets old and annoying, when you're just trying to get from point A to point B. They could fix this issue very easily just setting up different creatures to spawn in any designated spot, OR, better yet, space out more the time between spawns, because in the original, every time you had a loading screen, the entire map was "refiled" with the enemies you just killed. So they could change that "clock" to once every in game week maybe? I dunno, the first game was incredible but this is one big critique that i have of it. The world is fun to traverse, yes, the first 3 times you do it. After that it becomes annoying, but i feel like it's an easy fix for the sequel

The thing is that I am exclusively a PC gamer, I've never even owned a controller, and it used to be the case that many Japanese developers only released their games for console, with maybe an afterthought PC port down the line (or none at all). This has changed in the last decade or so, so now I'm playing more Japanese games, including Yakuza 0 and Final Fantasy XV. I hope that this trend continues.

Got all the way to Crumbling Farum Azula in ER and midway through Act 3 in BG3 and got burnt out because I kept rerolling alts and playing so much. I was a fan of the first one, and I am really looking forward to playing 2. It seems like the devs really invested in improving things that were issues in 1, improving some things weren't but making them better, and building a very immersive world that let's the player immerse themselves. For example, there aren't quest markers- you will be approached by people who have a quest or come across them organically.
I also like the cost exchange they have implemented for travel. If you want to fast travel you can, however it requires a very expensive catalyst, and the exchange for the great cost is that there is no risk in traveling that way. The middle cost option is to take an ox cart, though you are at the mercy of the ox cart driver as to where you end up- and there is a bit of risk in traveling that way because ox carts can be attacked by monsters or bandits. The cheapest way to travel is also the riskiest, which is of by going on foot...though that to me is also the best way.
They've also made some smart modifications to the Pawn system as well as combat. I hope it's a huge success =)

I played DD1 so I already know the game will have one Save FILE -- that is, one character slot -- but someone who isn't familiar with the series could read this interview and think "Oh, so I can't quicksave, but I can still make multiple characters. To make matters worse, 30fps becomes more evident when detail is increased. So a current gen game at 4k 30fps is going to move more janky than a game from the early 2000's. Choppiness of combat delayed hits, that's to try to make your hits matter.
    3. Fast travel is after you have grinded the walk, when you are rich or you definitely want to beat the boss.
    4. You can just grind the walk for levels until you are ready to beat the boss.
    5. Puzzle sphinx I found her in DD, I played a lot and suddenly found her and then I kept trying to find HER. She eventually became an annoyance. Fighting her before boss was hard in the beginning.

I try and not get hyped for games these days, but the design choices they’ve gone with are exactly the kind of thing and play style I would be going for if I were designing an open world adventure game. I’m a massive hater of fast travel and hand holding. There’s no point in making a big open world with places to explore and stories to create if you’re just going to quick load to giant quest markers all over the map. Kudos to their design choices and I’m honestly expecting this to be my favorite game since Skyrim and RDR2.

  • @Darkasasin80

Dragon's Dogma is tied with Warframe as my favorite game of all time. I played the game before it even came out with its two demos on the PS3 where they let you play the opening segment before character creation and then I think the second demo let you make a character and fight a Gryphin in a field. I remember when they released Dark Arisen and if you had a save file from the base game you received the Eternal Ferrystone. I love the Eternal Ferrystone but to be fair I think when they ported and rereleased the game and gave it to everyone it was a mistake. It was cool as a reward for those who played the game and were already familiar with the world but letting everyone have accessible and free unlimited fast travel realky worked against a lot of the game. I loved the Portcrystal system as it restricts fast travel behind exploration and story progression and you won't max out your travel points until your second playthrough. Dragon's Dogma definitely had flaws though. I think early game stamina was rough. It was fine in combat but travel definitely was tedious at points because you couldn't run as much as you'd like. Pawns were repetitive and they're inclinations changed all the time with no way to lock them. Support pawns were a struggle to get them to do what you wanted from buffing or healing or cleansing. Warrior was super limited and largely uninteresting. The break free stuff busted so many controllers! Fighting wolves and harpies terrified me because I didn't want to mess up my thumbsticks. Ugh I hated that so much! I'm so excited to play DD2. I hope we get a demo before release.

At first you can't for the most part, then you get an item that lets you travel to a preset point. Then you get items that place down your own fast travel points wherever you want on the map. I can understand being bummed about the framerate but I can't understand passing up a game because of it. 30 with occasional dips is totally passable if the gameplay is grea. I think people have unreasonable expectations for consoles.
A game like this is gonna push console to their absolute limits. Consoles aren't current Gen. They are always 2 to 3 generations behind current PCs. This game is incredibly complex from a technical standpoint. Big open world with no loading screens, diverse NPCs, incredibly varied and dynamic combat with incredibly varied and diverse enemies, the pawn system is also complex and blah blah you get it. It all adds up to needing a fuck ton of resources to run and consoles are great but they are definitely limited there.
If you've ever dabbled in game development then surely you know that graphics alone are not the only thing that bogs down a system. It's the sum of all the games parts. I think passing on this because 30fps is a hard line for you is fine but shitting on something that isn't even out yet is Karen as fuck.
The only game I know of that is visually pretty amazing and also has many complex systems is RDR2. However that game was 30fps @1080p on ps4 and xbox when it released and it was a hit.

Console isn’t as strong as everyone makes them out to be. They are 2 generations behind the strongest PC. The gpu inside the ps5 is equivalent to a 2070 at most. The fact that it can run the game at 4k30, when the PC equivalent at a 2080 can do the same, that goes to show how optimized the game is. 4k is incredibly demanding and consoles are not up to snuff to dish out crazy graphics and high performance, it’s obviously been the case since the beginning and gamers gotta stop gaslighting themselves to believe otherwise because of manufacturer promises and marketing. Even the strongest PC’s aren’t getting ridiculously high frame rates at 4k in most games, unless you spend a thousand dollars, most likely more on a gpu. A 4090 can BARELY do 4k60 on Alan Wake 2 at max graphics without any upscaling. You guys really think the ps5 is doing that? Cmon now. A lot of games on the ps4 and ps5 aren’t even 4k native anyways, it’s all upscaled. People have to manage their expectations with consoles, cos these consoles are not the 4k60 wonder machines that everyone acts like they are. Optimization for consoles is incredibly hard in a period of time when the consoles are becoming too weak to handle next gen tech. Eventually and inevitably there’s gonna be a slew of very demanding games coming out that are gonna all be locked at 4k30 most likely upscaled until the next gen of consoles come out, deadass. The games that are coming out are becoming so intricate that PC’s aren’t even handling it with flying colors without some sort of upscaling. But as always, If you want more fps, it’s always been the case that you need to build a PC.

They claimed 120fps and barely any games even hit that on console, unless it’s like ori and the blind forest. No god of war at 120 unless you got a rig when that port comes out. They claim 4k60 but most triple A games cant do that without upscaling, and even then it’s not stable or consistent half the time. Consoles must be powerful enough to run premium games, but cheap enough for consumers to buy. Its power has diminishing returns like any tech, but it becomes much weaker over time as gaming tech advances and systems are pushed to their limits. The power ceiling is PC and the floor is console. PC advances faster and in order to keep up, we get a new console generation. It’s how this all has worked for well over a decade now.

However, games are there for gamers to HAVE FUN. In order to do that for a wide variety of gamers, you need to offer options.
Some people can't play Soulsborne games because there aren't options for those who just aren't skilled enough to take down all the bosses. When the devs from Dark Souls and the like don't offer options, they gatekeep out lots of gamers from ever experiencing what an awesome game they've created because developers have a vision that is apparently their highest priority. We didn’t really care about the story that much the first time playing. (Which is weird because the story is actually good. It might’ve been there delivery but something was just off). But yeah everyone complained about no fast travel/traveling. Everybody didn’t like the story. The world was relatively small. I sadly wouldn’t call it the most immersive game sadly. A lot of people are worried about the game being 30fps & I think that is certainly one of the criteria to judge the game, but not the only criteria.
I just want more groundbreaking games like Elden Ring, BG3, RDR2,BOTW, Witcher 3. And all these games have some kind of issues with the performance or graphics. Elden Ring doesn't have the best graphics as a next gen game. BG3 doesn't have the best combat system. RDR2 doesnt have 60fps. Witcher 3 also didn't have 60fps till just recently.
My point is, if a game is really really good...things like graphics & performance take a backseat. They become secondary.
So while it's understandable to criticize the devs & it is indeed embrassing that they can't manage to do 60fps in next gen... I just think those are not the only things to look in a game. If the game is really groundbreaking & loved by people all that becomes kinda irrelevant
But yeah, this game wouldn't be a 9 or 10 out of 10 now. It's now 8 due to performance & optimization issues. But that's it. Those performance issues are just worth deducting 1 or 2 points. It is not worth completely skipping the game. This game will still be a good game. This isn't a Redfall or Gollum situation

It's a subjective criteria to judge a game on lol Ratchet Deadlocked: Endzone challenge, if you know you know! But to give a quick rundown, this particular challenge has you in a small square arena with a laser goal post behind you to defend like a pseudo tower defense while waves of enemies appear from the front of you in growing waves! With the massive amount of bolts, enemies and weapon effects and particle effects the game chugs hard and the frame rate drops like the blood pressure of vasovagal syncope making the game into a slow motion Michael Bay explosion finale every time a new wave of enemies spawns in. As an unending large stream of bolts slowly follows you to be collected as you move all over protecting the Endzone in a motion that follows your movements making the endless bolt stream a pseudo aura borealis in slow motion! That shit is like taking several dopamine shots simultaneously! The "frame rate issue" is extremely subjective!
