What I remember was that when he started singing (and he had a lyric sheet he was holding up) the crowd started cheering and never stopped for almost the entire song. Very unlike a British crowd who usually like to sing, but dont cheer much after the music starts. Very emotional. Also he didnt announce it--just came back from a break at some point in the conference and they started playing--because it was guitar not piano, it took a moment for me at least to realize what it was they were playing
