It’s been about 30 years since that performance and the band is still going. They released an album in 2020 and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a few years back. Their performance from the induction ceremony was great.

"Jeremy" is based on two real stories. The main inspiration came from a newspaper story about a 15 years old boy, Jeremy Wade Delle, from Richardson, Texas, who committed suicide with a firearm in front of his English class, at Richardson High School, on January 8, 1991, at 9:45 am. In an interview in 2009, Eddie Vedder said he felt that "he needed to take that little news story from the newspaper and turn it into something that would cause a reaction, turn into something bigger." The other story on which this song is based, involves a student named Brian who Eddie Vedder met in high school in San Diego, California. This student did the same thing, only he didn't kill himself, but ended up shooting a class of oceanography.
This one was so good! I’d love if you reacted to a much later solo thing Eddie Vedder did from his Ukulele Songs album called Longing to Belong. It shows so much of his range and it’s such a beautiful song.
You've got to do another song from the Unplugged show called "State of Love & Trust"! It's an amazing Pearl Jam song and the guys -- and Eddie -- just nail it! It ROCKS!
To quote Chris Cornell "sometimes you just gotta lock yourself in a room and a mic and just experiment on your voice" paraphrased. Anyway the grunge era I believe was that result.. just yell your heart out and hope it catches fire, Kurt Cobain being my favorite voice of them all. And the grunge era being my favorite of any genre.
it's a song about a kid who suffered bullying and was ignored and neglected by everyone around him. inspired about a kid named jeremy who killed himself in front of his teacher and school mates.
I had no idea about the backstory. It makes the song so much more meaningful and impactful. Someone wrote the full backstory in the comments. Man, Eddie Vedder is so talented and deep.
OMG! I just watched the video! It was so intense, knowing that it's based on a real life. Yeah I think it would have been more impactful and shocking if I watched the video first.
as much as i love this performance, I'm not sure this is the best way to be introduced to this song. its much tougher to get what he's trying to say without the imagery. this way, it's just beautiful, not simultaneously terrible. go see the official video or maybe better yet the uncensored, which is findable now.
Thanks love. I did watch the official music video after I did this reaction and it definitely would have been better if I heard it for the first time with the video.
You should react to Alice In Chains “nutshell” at MTV unplugged. It’s was right before Lane Staley died, it’s a beautiful and haunting song because it was his cry for help...
@@kailamay2278 His girlfriend died of a drug overdose and it started him down a dark path from which he never recovered. Watch them sing Animal and Rocking in the Free World with Neil Young at the MTV Music Awards .. that was probably the best and last great performance on MTV.
