Will France send NATO troops to Ukraine?

  • French President Emmanual Macron made a statement yesterday suggesting the possibility of "deployment" of NATO forces in Ukraine. Could this mean war with Russia if French forces will be sent to Ukraine? Clarifying his earlier statements following quick rebuttals of any suggestions of direct intervention by the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and Poland among others, Macron elucidated his meaning noting that "deployment" might involve de-mining personnel, cyber-security systems, and production of munitions and arms in country.

Imagine NATO had a PMC like Wagner who they could deploy in Ukraine and say that they technically did not deploy NATO troops and that the company fighting in Ukraine is an indepented privately owned company who just happens to have enlisted soldiers from NATO countries and somehow borrowed their tanks and planes.

The problem with 'strategic ambiguity' is that you have to be ambiguous to everyone to be credible. Not only the side you want to intimidate - Russia in this case - but also to your own electorate. And with that idea being overwhelmingly unpopular across Western countries, its not that surprising that the loudest objections have come from those that are having important elections in the near future (US and Germany). And that makes Macron's strategic ambiguity basically useless and probably creates more problems than it solves.

Duda - meaning "bagpipe" ( from German "Dudelsack") or "bad musician", the common Polish surname Duda is most likely an occupational name for someone who played the bagpipes or, possibly, someone who played them poorly. A dudy is a form of bagpipe with a single reed in the chanter, common in the southern and western areas of Bohemia in the Czech Republic, and in parts of Poland and Austria.
Another possible meaning, suggested by Polish name expert Prof. Kazimierz Rymut in his book "Nazwiska Polakow" (The Surnames of Poland), is "one who made a lot of unnecessary noise".

There have been soldier within Ukraine to help train Ukrainians. Ukrainians have also gone to other countries (like Spain) for training. Training for using equipment and military training. There have also been volunteers from numerous countries and some paid as well, which shouldn't be a problem since Russia has been doing that from the start. The difference is that no one is going into Russia Federation and NATO isn't there fighting. France hasn't been part of NATO sonce the 60's, so although France is a valuable ally, Macron doesn't have a say in what the alliance will or won't do. It's sort of like the Kremlin claiming to be blowing up Abrams tanks for two years when they only were recently aquired for use in Ukraine. There haven't been Nazi's, NATO, combat beetles, werewolves or any other strange and untrue things that Putin has claimed to be the reason for murdering Ukrainians. He wants the USSR back. Which most of us realized that, but the interesting history lesson to Tucker Carlson should have wok a least a few people up to what he really is up to. Invoking Article V requires a unanimous decision of all NATO Member States, so if one of them attacks another, it is pretty sure they will veto Article V.
      But …
An unprovoked attack would be a violation of the UN Charter. Since the NATO Treaty specifically refers to the UN Charter, this would be ground to expel the aggressor from NATO after which Article could be invoked.
      However …
The NATO Treaty states that an attack on one nation must be considered an attack on all of them, IT DOES NOT SPECIFY MILITARY ACTION.

Thus they are fully within their rights to use their OWN military in any ways they want, if it's not a NATO deployment. There is a very good reason Putin tries to maintain good relationship with Erdogan. He alone could likely stop his adventures in Ukraine if he was willing.

I do not know if you have noticed, but France has nukes also, and not only does France have a first use policy, they have a warning shot policy. You actually think that if Russia uses nukes on France they will just sit there and take it? You do not think that France will retaliate against Moscow with a few nukes of their own. Not only this, but France is a member of NATO. A few NATO countries also have nukes also. They will be put in a position having to use those nukes. Do you really think that they will sit by and let Russia nuke another NATO country without retaliating. One country may, but there are still several NATO countries with nukes of their own all capable of nuking Russia. Every single one of them would just have to just stand by. In addition because Trump showed an unwillingness to come to the aid of allies there was probably an enormous amount of nuclear proliferation during his term. Probably a number of nations have nukes, but for political reasons are quiet about it. How does Russia know that Germany isn't one of them. They have the technology. They also already have a nuclear industry that is very capable of supplying the enriched uranium. Germany may not have nukes, but how does Russia know it doesn't? Do you believe that NATO countries will let Russia fire nukes and not respond. The Soviet Union merely put nukes in Cuba, they did not fire them. The United States was willing to go to nuclear war over those missiles. Are the guys that have to fire those nuclear missiles willing to have their families killed in a nuclear war over Ukraine? They are in bunkers 100 feet under ground but their families aren't. Are you willing to have your family killed over the invasion of another country? The leader of a country gives the orders to end humanity on this world, but somebody has to carry out those orders. If somebody nuked Moscow I would expect these guys to carry out the orders to launch, but would they over Ukraine? My personal view is that Russia either will or it won't. You can't live your life being afraid of dying. Threats are easy to make, but carrying them out is a little different. You have to be willing to pay the price to carry out those threats.

This is actually a civil war, when the father is for one side, and the son for the other, when the wife supports one side, and her husband supports the opposite side... Do you naively think that all Ukrainians need Western “values and freedom” ?) but it doesn’t occur to you, that other people have their own values, and they don’t need someone else’s ??) This war began when people from the Western part of Ukraine began to aggressively impose their language and culture on people in the East of Ukraine, the same citizens of this country. And today it has already reached the point where they come to church, beat the priest, drive out the believers, and either burn the building or take it away... and how do you like this kind of “democracy” in Ukraine ?))) Why do you consider Ukraine yours? half of Ukraine, if not more, are the former lands of the Russian Empire, where Russians have always lived. They know this in both Russia and Ukraine, and only you in the West do not understand this simple thing - Putin will not allow you to take Ukraine, because it is NOT YOURS!

      But …
An unprovoked attack would be a violation of the UN Charter.
So, in practice, most countries would file a diplomatic complaint and look the other way.
Turkey and Greece have had plenty of armed skirmishes and everyone looked the other way after filing a complaint.

The operations against the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea are also NOT NATO - they are a coalition of countries that happen to be in NATO. Just because a NATO member does something it does not construe NATO activity. If FRANCE wants to assist Ukraine that's up to them. It does not invoke Article 5 for the rest of the countries to join in.

Could Nato troops enter Ukraine to station the Belarusian border under the pretext that it is ensuring Russia doesn’t attack Ukraine through a non combatant country in this case Belarus like they did at the start of the war. This would create a situation where Ukrainian troops on the Belarusian border can leave to bolster the eastern front and nato troops wouldn’t be in direct conflict with Russia unless Russia was to attack them through Belarus

Also one thing: If you stand in front of a moving car to block the traffic like a climate activist, aren’t you asking to get hit? It’s a road and car drives on there, if you smash yourself into a car that’s driving 60mph at you, then all you asked for is a 90% mortality rate. Russia appears to be that car heading to deliver his package to the destination, and NATO now is that climate activist, she can either stay outta the way, or chooses to get rammed

How easy it is to get concessions that one would NEVER give to a country so weak and on the brink as Russia is now. And his threats are more than likely EMPTY. Russia is not the soviet union.
We can choose to face down Russia NOW and end the threat for good, or give them a chance to actually try and STRENGTHEN themselves, armed with the lessons learned in Ukraine, give them a chance to WIN.
Now for your example: Ukraine didn't dodge. And they "stopped the car". From hitting US. They will be completely justified to start murdering us if we abandon them to the russians in the end.

One aspect that should not be overlooked is that Macron never really meant it (maybe). In France we've seen him operate for 7 years now, and the guy is quite good at political communication. In my opinion he knew exactly that to sent troops to Ukraine is a big no-no. The point is that he his highly contested at home (and the farmers are just the last of a long list), and that this declaration might just have been for internal use : a scarecrow, a bone for people and the media to chew on. And trust me it works: people took it very seriously (nobody wants to go there), and the media are only talking about that.

What is the point of that unrealistic outdated map of Ukraine with Crimea? Ukraine and Russia had great relations until Victoria Nuland showed up at the anti-government protests (just like how Russian and Chinese officials do at antigovernment protests in Canada and Mexico...oh yeah, they don't), back at that time Crimea was a Russian majority autonomous republic with Russian military stationed there and everyone was fine with that, but since the west didn't like that, that outdated map can now only be a pipe dream.

Not true. Ukraine had already protested against Russian puppets before, and the origin of the conflict was that Yanukovych was trying to join the EU but Putin placed sanctions on Ukraine to pressure him. There was no problem with Crimea until Putin decided to take it. He created the problem because he went too hard and threatened Ukraine's entire economy to yank his leash on Yanukovych.
