- We flew to Ontario to buy a 1947 Ford Super Deluxe Business Coupe with the plan to drive it home. It was advertised as "Rust Free Original, with one repaint over 40 years ago. Recently Mechanic CERTIFIED. Safety Certificate Issued. Runs & Drives Excellent, Turn THe Key And Go." Before we started to make the venture home we ended up discovering there's mounts missing which contradicts it being mechanically certified. As shown in yesterdays video, the seller told us to legally go after the mechanic that certified it. After filming this video, we looked into the paperwork and come to find out the certificate is invalid as it was issued in 2022 and was only good for 36 days. The mechanic is no longer at fault. The car wasn't advertised or sold "as is where is", it was falsely advertised and sold as a mechanically certified car. We're just hoping that it's actually safe to drive 2,000 KM home

You can not advertise with the intent to mislead. The ad is what made us fly to Ontario to look at the car. You can’t advertise that a car is rust free when it isn’t. And you can’t advertise that a car is safety certified when it expired in 2022. Which is something we didn’t find out until after we got off the phone with him when he told us to call the mechanic about the missing mounts. The mechanic isn’t at fault. It’s the sellers fault for falsely advertising the car.

Brad is right on the rust but did not handle it good to say the least, anyone can lose their temper and regret actions later, just move on lesson learned.

Chad old bud.....come on now......i totally get your argument but (big old BUT), you did however see the rust before you bought it... you could have said then and there in a kinda diplomatic way i guess ''sorry old friend, the add said rust free and it does have rust, so i will pass on the buy''... same thing with the certification.....if you fly around the world to buy a car, make sure ALL is in order before throwing money towards it.....and lastly old bud.....you very well know those are running board mounts which were (some not connected to the running board and some of them missing).....come on now it is not that big of a deal.....you are a content creator so make content on how you fix those little rust spots and make (or get) the rest of the running board mounts and bolts.......and whalaaaaaa.......all is sorted.....don't you think?

To satisfy my curiosity I googled the body mount locations for a 47 Ford Coupe and all body mounts are on the main chassis NOT ON OUTRIGGERS.

Keep in mind Chad is on video examining the undercarriage and looking directly at what he is now claiming is a defect. He also says he paid without even looking at the certification. Then he calls the guy a cheat. Not a good look. Too bad drama ends up taking down every community.

Running board mount is all it is.
There is no fix needed, those are running board mounts last used on the 1940 Ford that had the same chassis.
Easy to say when it doesn’t happen to you… point is the guy wasn’t straight about the ad so don’t start embarrassing yourself.

Most of you are missing the point. It's the dishonest y here. If he lied about that, what else has he lied about that will come up and could have been prevented? He's the seller but he blames the mechanic. Doesn't even offer to have a look at it but starts swearing. He got caught out. He's not an ethical appraiser, he's an unscrupulous wheeler-dealer, a crook in other words.
Chad certainly has skills as far as body work goes . Not sure why the drama regarding a safety certificate . Would suggest none of the vehicles he has created would pass a safety 😊

Again I will say, what you were looking at is the hangers for an optional set of running boards, not body mounts! Body mounts are on the top of the frame not the bottom! I can't believe how you blowup at the gentleman that sold you the car you just looked at and even test drove!

@@jimcollins3411 thing is running board have become optional now and the mounds are technically not body mounts. Machanics do their inspections based on todays understanding and terminologies. Its not a perfect world, screws fall out some time after all.

I'm a mechanic in Ontario, and you two could not be more wrong,
- It's the mechanic's responsibility to only sign the safety certificate if the car passed a careful inspection. The Ontario inspection is strict if done properly. It's not the sellers problem if the mechanic rushed through the inspection.
- You should have called the shop that did the safety and went there. They would help you because they don't want to lose their license for issuing a bad safety. If you couldn't resolve it with the shop, the Ministry of Transportation will go to the shop and look at the car themselves....I've seen it happen.
- It's not the sellers problem that you decided to buy a car 2000kms from home and didn't set aside emergency money for a few more nights in a hotel to resolve issues with the shop.
- The seller is mad because you accused him of being dishonest, when all he did was sell you a car that passed the Ontario safety check.
- The seller agreed to refund the money, which never happens....and you didn't even take him up on it, and instead chose to drive 2000km in a car that you believe to be unsafe.
- You chose to fly 2000kms to buy a car...obviously that sometimes results in flying back home if the car isn't what you thought.
- They appear to be running board mounts.
- That safety certificate is only good in Ontario anyway
- If you make it home, that means Larry sold you an incredible car
So in ontario in Province when you sell your old car with papers you have to go get a cert? Seems a lot of inspections. In BC you can have 1960s regi and get transfer without a look at condition and plate it. Only if a liable accident comes up does road worthyness come in. Here the police can pull cars and bikes if say tread is bare or other serious fault. A US car coming in I expect needs Provincial check after taxes are paid etc.

Larry is a more likely a straight shooter with had purely honest intentions and Chad’s confrontational overly dismissive tone and level of dissatisfied animosity eventually had Larry all flustered for as these events unraveled into a defensive disagreement, with Larry’s integrity on the line being questioned, when pressed he’d merely implied that he hadn’t really been under the car much longer then Chad had been down there with the light, relying fore mostly on the strength of the safety certificate, as Larry corrected himself in re-remembering that he’d taken the pictures underneath the car, caught off guard in a minor misconception all for Chad just to pounce on the real time re-correction and sailor dive headfirst in a unhelpfully disrespectful gotcha manner before resorting to openly laughing at Larry’s responses instead of allowing for the benefit of doubt, losing steam in going way off the rails and getting all tangled up in the weeds unnecessarily due to the confrontational unproductive overly aggressive frustrated nature of the business call. Patience is a virtue, inarguably no former officer was trying to pull a fraudulent fast one over on Bad Chad on film. Invariably with some degree of patience Larry surely would have sorted out and helped remedy the unfortunate issues with the 1947 super deluxe business coupe sale in due course, for the sake of his reputation in the greater car community. Larry begrudgingly said that he’d refund the deal, over what well could be a running board mount? & that Cadillac man who’d picked Chad and Jolene up from the airport claimed to know of a better modernized 1947 ford lined up, yet in the Chad’s driving it home regardlessly and so we shall see what Larry ultimately does in time if Chad doesn’t burn down the bridge prematurely. Unequivocally this sort of overly dramatic public shaming leveraged renegotiation tactic expose doesn’t make for good TV, Cravat Emptor. Buyer’s beware, so be aware…🤔

A good majority of people now, worry about putting food on the table, can't afford Luxery items like a 47 ford or old car for that matter. The bloke was an appraiser and should have picked that up, as well as the rust which was clear to see. Cant remember his exact words but he also stated in the earlier session something to the effect that any car bought from him was good to go....
They'll get 20 miles down the road and realize the floats on the tri-power are stuck and call the guy and start bitching!!

Never negotiate a price without checking it out or paying to have it checked out.
The seller said he was a car appraiser. I have used car appraisers in the past. They check every aspect of a car they are appraising. The seller is at fault and is completely liable legally. I wouldn't call larry to appraise a radio flyer wagon!

@@SAVERREPUBLIC1776 I've used appraisers too...they do a walk around, listen to it run, snap some pictures and leave. That's their job...the mechanic is the one who certifies it for safety.
Much of this can be understandable depending on the purchase price. My 74 year old husband has worked on these era cars since he was 13 years old and says this is much to do about nothing UNLESS he substantially overpaid for the car.
Also says with an extra water pump, generator, starter, hoses and belts he would drive it through all 48 lower states never thinking twice about two supposed body bolts missing.
We admire Chad and Jolene very much but are very much disappointed with Chad in this deal, he unnecessarily made a mountain out of a mole hill and made Jolene feel insecure without good cause.

Today Chad said he had to drive the car 2000 miles, yesterday he said he had to drive the car 2000 KM. According to Google or Alexis 2000 KM is 1200 miles, well what is it Chad? I don't think Larry misled you at all, sometimes people say things and the correct themselves in the next breath as Larry did about crawling under the car or putting it on the lift. In my opinion Chad is wrong for badmouthing Larry who I believe did not do anything wrong. Shame on you Chad, suck it up and put on your "big boy pants.''

The guy got 'aggressive' on the phone because Chad called and threatened a lawsuit outta the blue before he barely said hello. Chad blew it on this one. I'm sure he must feel like people have taken advantage of him in the past therefore he needs to be a tough guy now, but it'd be better if he just did his due diligence. I hope his channel doesn't suffer, I like it here.
Also he clearly have some underlying anger-issues that he´s hinted previous he couldn´t control in his younger days but they still pop up from time to time.
When you stopped at that guys house you should’ve put your car up there on the lift and check those holes that guy could’ve probably told you if those are running boards mounts or body mounts then this whole thing would’ve been solved. Don’t think he wouldn’t of minded you doing that with his assistance
I’m not sure Larry really knew what you wanted him to do to resolve it as I think he was caught off guard out of the blue. I’m not sure you know what you wanted him to do either. Get some of your money back, get all your money back, have him fix the car, have somebody else fix the car, or just drive it home like you did anyways without seeming to be that concerned about it. I guess when I got to the house to pick up that part and saw the guy had a car lift I would maybe ask if I can throw my car on the lift and give it a closer look before we takeoff.

I still think those are RUNNING BOARD mounts. Someone in the past had running boards on the car and then someone removed them. This left the running board mounts still there. But that isn't a "structural" problem. There are kits available to install running boards on that car and they include "mounts" that look exactly like the one you're worried about. When the running boards were removed they just left the mounts there. They're not body mounts and they are not a problem.

My Dad restored a car just like that and If I'm not mistaken those cars have 20+ mounts so even if just 2 were missing it would be safe if all the others are in.

When you read about his background it is clearly stated that he got into many fights, including at his place of work That is the way he interacts with his world. Not good. Don't think any one that watched this episode would ever sell a car to him.

Chad, I’ve watched your channel for 4 years when I searched Fleetline and found yours and enjoyed it very much. In my eyes you’re in the wrong in this case. The seller misspoke and then immediately corrected himself when he said he didn’t go/did go under the car - just like when you said “cop” and then changed it to “mechanic”. That seemed like the moment the interaction went downhill. If those are mounts for running boards it would seem you owe him a big apology.
The seller should have quickly offered a refund if he was on the up n up.

Who doesn't at a minimum request a portfolio of pictures of the vehicle incuding on a hoist prior to travelling 200km's. Clearly the rust would have been visible on the bottom.

Could be apologies from both sides if the car wasn't presented truthfully. As soon as Chad looked at the car and saw the rust issues, the time to bring it up was before he closed the deal. Chad, Jolene, I love y'all, but PLEASE Google a frame diagram, you're upset about running board mounts on a car which has had its running boards removed. There are 17 body mounts on that chassis and I bet they're fine. Thats how it got certified. Oh, Jolene, seatbelts aren't required for certification if it wasnt sold with them. Thats me speaking as a Red Seal technician with 25+ years experience.

@@jimmieroan9881, if you had a '48 you'd know those outrigger mounts weren't used on passenger cars, they were for running boards on trucks which used the same chassis.
Chad....you need to apologize to the seller for calling a running board mount a body mount. They are two different things. A body mount is welded to the body (part of the body) and bolted to the frame and located above the frame rail it is bolted to. A running board mount is bolted to the side of the frame rail and projecting outward to be bolted to the running board. A body mount is a structural part of the body and a running board mount is refered to as a bracket and is nonstructural.

To be fair, Larry did finally say "bring the car back and I'll refund your money." When they called him he was 50 miles from home traveling with his wife. He wasn't expecting a call like that. @@chevy35c, the same chassis was used for trucks, which had running boards. Those outrigger mounts aren't connected to anything when the chassis is iuse for a passenger car.

The seller was a very honest and kind person who was accommodating Chad and Jolene in every way possible. I don’t think the viewers of this channel deserve to see Chad whining about some minor issues for the whole trip back that can be easily addressed to pass a safety test if that is even the case! You owe the seller a big public apology period. I’ve watched your channel for years and this behavior will come back to bite you down the road.

You are so right, i had a bad time seeing chad filming his call to the seller of the car and putting it on youtube, you saw the car and you bought it to drive it home. Those boddy mounts is not a big deal. You chad owe a big apology to the seller.
Don’t forget to pick up some oil that has the zinc for flat tappet engines. And carry some 50/50 anti freeze. Check the oil at every gas stop , grease the water pump at least once on your way, wheel 😂bearings, etc. Original Cars of that era require much more maintenance than most of what you work on and create.

@@MickH60 safety inspections most places in Canada are good for one year. One province tried having them good for two years. NB maybe. Owner is still responsible for ensuring their vehicle is safe for driving as parts can go even if they are brand new.

You'll probably need to rebuild the gearbox, as the slipping out of second usually is caused by wear on several components, namely, the "dogs"on the second gear, wear in the synchro drum, looseness in the second gear bushing, and maybe worn selector forks, rails and poppet balls.

I'm to the point that I don't expect any car to live up to the seller's sale pitch. The seller can be completely honest but this car is nearly 80 years old. It is going to have problems.

I think yesterdays episode was a missed opportunity. I would’ve far preferred to watch an episode where you fix the small issue on the fly or visit a classics shop in Ontario and have them help you out. It’s a sweet ride and it’s a shame to watch a positive be turned into a negative like this.

Old guy here with my belly button . First, people will say anything , what it said in ad is just fluff. Second , when buying a used car, there is no warranty unless it says there is. All deals are as is. Once you buy it is yours. And finally , you may not have planed it, and it wasnt what you thought, but go home and fix it, it is what you do man.

As I recall there are 16 body mounts not just the ones on the outside of the frame that Chad was looking at. The remaining 12 on directly into the chassis. Confirm with Bob Draft or Carpenter to confirm.
What Chad the crybaby was looking at were NOT body mounts, they are running board mounts which were not used on the 41, through 48. IT's basically the same frame as the 40 which did have running board. With the War starting in 41 no cars were produced until 1946. There were not any chassis changes until 1949. I have had several of these 40's fords. over the past 55 years as well as just about every other Ford from the 1932 up to the mid to late 60's Mustangs of every flavor.
Yes, that's it. 16 or 18, it been a few years since I helped my Dad restore a 47 just like that and I remember it having a lot of body mounts and the 2 Chad was looking at were the ones the running boards bolted to.
