- Parts for the 1934 Dodge hotrod have finally arrived. Once Nathan gets them installed we'll be able to fire up the engine and see if we can get the clutch unstuck. If we can't, we're gonna have to pull the engine and transmission back out 😬

Every brake manual tells you to bleed the wheel that is furthest away from the master first, then the next farthest and so on.
Absolutely true
Wrong
Wrong. You follow the main brake line from the front to the rear differential then look for the splitter, then follow the line to the farthest wheel. On lots of cars the rear splitter is on the passenger side of the rear end. Therefore the wheel farther from the master cylinder is the left rear wheel
Don't think they make a manual for that monster!!! 😅
@@JohnSchwartzkopf-r1c hence self taught is probably better than reading any manuals... I mean you can do it your way... It's your car.... Do it the way you want...
I was taught furthest away first. Right rear, then left rear, then right front ,then left front
@@TheBobjah63 that’s right and the other way around for right handed vehicles
On the old vws always start bleeding brakes from the furthest brake line away from mast cylinder then ie rear passenger then rear drivers, passenger then drivers
I was taught to bleed brake lines by always starting at the wheel which is furthest from the master cylinder.
I was thinking the same as you @grantscrimgeour1848. Just like any other tank fed fluid system.🙂
yes correct pass rear ,driver rear pass front then divers front
@granscimgeour1848. We could be wrong about it on a car. might be different because the closest to the res backwards would also stop air locks from traveling to the back and so on. you don't want air lock in a braking system. 👍
I always did them in order of longest line fist , the rest in order of longest finishing with the shortest line
As long as all the air is out of the system, what does it matter? On an old system like this vehicle would have it doesn’t much matter. Get all the air out so you have a nice firm pedal and move on.
Chads going over all of the things that were done or modified to complete this project. Nate doing the bulk of it. Nate deserves his own program.
Where he learn how bleed brakes you start at the back
It works that mean u can do it more than one way
@@kennethbrown5814it doesn't work properly . You always start from the farest one from master first .
doesn't matter as long as you don't miss one, some do closest to furthest and vice versa ...
Rear right gets bled first ! You always start with the furthest away from the master ... Right rear , left rear ...Right front and Left front ...
rear right first then rear left then pass front then drivers last that how you bleed brakes i beleive
That was the way I was taught, and have been doing it that way for 50+ years.
I guess it's opposite in Canadada!
Supposed to be furthest wheel first then working to the closest 👍
he bleeds the brakes backwards😊
@@dodgekingsway5667my thoughts exactly.
As others have said, furthest away gets bled first. This removes the most of the air on the first go and any dirty fluid that might be in the system. Suggest cars that may be set up for years swap over to a synthetic brake fluid to prevent rust up of brake cylinders>DOT4. Please, please mount the alternator down under. Looks really awful on top sky high. Need way more clearance on the tie rod. That thing goes over a bump and it will hit. Love your stuff! To get the clutch unstuck get it up to speed mash the clutch and slam the brakes, something has to give.
That's a new one wizard.. shortest run to longest?.. don't let the master suck air or you will have to start all over.. it's usually right rear left rear right front left front..good luck ..😊
If you let the master cylinder run dry while vacuum bleeding or pedal bleeding for that matter, you’ll have to start over. And yes, you should start at the right rear first. longest line always first. also, with a taper bleeder not like whatwheel cylinders have, you don’t need any other sealed at the taper except in this instance, where you’re pulling a vacuum. When vacuum bleeding ,you need thread tape on the threads of the bleeder nut so it doesn’t draw air around the threads and confuse you, thinking the bubbles are coming through the system and not around the threads. Vacuum is better if you have a used master cylinder because people tend to push a pedal all the way to the floor ,which you aren’t supposed to do, and that pushes the Chevron cup up over crud that’s already laid in a used master cylinders’ bore for possibly years. People wonder why they do a brake job or get in a car and test for brakes and their pedal goes to the floor and then shortly thereafter, they have brake fluid running down their firewall and their backing plates… Crud cuts the chevron’s edges.
With that bleeder tool you can see the air bubbles in your fluid, no bubbles no air! Sequence doesn't really matter. As long as you got solid fluid going through them hoses there's no air you can see it. Calm down Nate knows what he's doing. 😉✌
That doesn't look like a new jug of brake fluid. Once it's opened it starts to take on moisture.
What's the difference between an opened bottle of brake fluid and the brake fluid sitting in your master cylinder? There is no difference
As long as lid is on tight the fluid will be good for a long time.Manufacturers tell you it will suck in water just so they could sell you more@RubinsRacing350
Get over yourself......
@@RubinsRacing350
Brake fluid should be replaced every two years fresh from sealed container.
I thought I was right at 31.09 did you notice the ratchet strap holding up the coil spring assembly, the coils need to be anchored in there cups, if you let the ratchet go the diff will swing down and the coil springs will fall out, I find it unusual that they haven't pick up on this fault. I did comment on this when they were welding in the axle tramp rods, Before Jolene gets to drive this car can someone look into this issue, it's a accident waiting to happen
That fender to remove the under coating easy use a heat gun on the opposite side it will soften the under coating then scrap it off easy
A small bit of thinner will help to soften the under coat in them fenders Chad. and then it will scrape of easier.🙂👍
I’ve never heard of bleeding brakes this way. Usually furthest away to closest. Maybe it’s different with this gizmo that Nate is using.
Nate, your a good mechanic, but bleeding brakes is always the farthest first, right rear, left rear, right front, left front
I'm a still say that top radiator contraption is gonna break or break the radiator when the motor rocks on a Rev.
Needs more flex
Nate is a wonderful mechanic and such an asset to Chad in getting these TH-cam creations running. I see his own channel someday to just show his personal projects. Like Jim.
Thought you were meant to start with the nipple furthest from the master, not the nearest!
One line goes they all go
A dual master cylinder should be used for safety
I was trained to do the furthest wheep first the the moving from the right rear then the left going to the right front then the left front. its seam wrong to do the front first then the rear.
You guys really did a great job with that coupe. I like everything but the exhaust clamps holding it on to the manifold, I would have used stainless steel exhaust band clamps. There not much difference in price but they are super clean look.
Always pull air through radiator. You dont want fan in front of radiator it causes an air flow restriction which leads to overheating .
That rubberized coating on the Volvo fenders looks like some sort of tar... maybe warm it up a bit with a torch ... will save poor Doug some elbow grease
That exhaust still sucks, it’s downright ugly
They are the worst thing ever.
They aren’t pretty for sure. I think he said earlier that this was going to be Jolene’s new race car for that quarter mile track that only allows you to run flatheads.
We used to make the exhaust out of 1 1/2 electrical conduit. Grind off the galvanized at the weld seam, take you time to fit it, paint with high temp silver engine paint, they looked way better than that flex junk.
The flex pipe is period correct at one point in time it would have been the beez kneez
I agree, cool concept with pipes, but dryer vent nope.
Those things he called hairpins, we call them Dog legs and the original ones on the 60,s and 70,s vehicle's were good for rusting out and breaking so either you had to replace them with the originals or you had to fab them up and design them to your liking as long as they worked, that's the first time I've seen them done that way which are pretty cool and really strong!
On my homemade motorbikes, I have had to take a right angle grinder and go down in the bottom of cast iron poly and make it a True ‘V’ pulley rather than a flat bottomed V pulley, So the belt wouldn’t just lay on the bottom and slip, but would wedge against the sides of the V. I just held the grinder on the pulley and let it spin itself with the disc out of square just a bit so it would not just spend But remove metal at the same. time
Use some lacquer thinner or gas its will soften up the undercoating it will help you remove it much easier.
Wipe the brake fluid off of your toolbox or it will eat the paint up. I’ve seen many driver’s side fenders with outlines from a master cylinder lid on them or someone didn’t know that it was a paint solvent. It also attracts moisture and rust so every time I do a brake job, I’ll take the water hose and wash the backing plate off one time and it fuzzes up like soapsuds , But saves the paint and the metal from rust. You have to rinse it off pretty quick if you’re concerned about the Paint
Old stored Brake fluid takes on water so shouldn't be used after it has set a bit of time.???
Just what I just said.
Brake fluid is hydroscopic and socks moisture from the air. I buy it in small bottles and.throw it out what I dont.use
When the guys work for free, that's what you get.
Brake fluid in a container with a lid on is no problem it won’t take on the amount of moisture you think it will. U ever actually tested brake fluid that has sat in a jug? I bet you Have not.
Exactly @@Cncjdjsjxi
Racing antique tugboats in seattle, taught me to modify all belt brackets with " jacking bolts " for controlled belt tension.
Hi all! Such a beautifull place you guy's have; open and peacefull and so very comfortable when working on builds! Nice to see everyone happy and things are getting done. The Wiz kid and Doug are a blessing! Good vid! tc
Start furthest away, then next, then next, which would be front, then last nearest the master cylinder. Easy. Have bled many brakes that sequence. 😅
you know Chad I cannot believe that you do not have more people watching your channel it's such a good channel you are such good people I love the work that you guys do and Jolene she's fantastic on the videos really proud of you guys if you ever come down to South Florida or Central Florida sorry I like to buy you a beer and some wings anyway have a great day great afternoon and God bless you
Heat gun and scraper makes short work taking off undercoating .
the furthest wheel first back right wheel Anybody work on cars should know that
It depends on where the tee is on the rear end. If the tee is on the passenger side of the rear end then the wheel with the longest brake line will be the left rear tire.
maybe Canadians do it different
put the suction hose so fluid has to go uphill a foot or so so it gives the bubbles a chance to for you to see them. they can pull air from the side of the bleed nipple also if you pull too hard. sometimes you have to put a zip tie on it to keep it tight.
In the US we do the farest to closest
Furthers line first RR then LR then RF then LF. NOT THE LF FIRST
I’ve got to say it. You put a motor and transmission in a car without pulling the transmission and check and replace the clutch?
This is a channel for those who have no/limited money trying to put together a machine. It’s not Foose or Kindig.
should be using freshly opened brake fluid ,
Nathan that bleeder kit usually lasts for two complete cars then the seals go to crap.
My cheaper one for brake bleeding is pop Bottel and hoses does the same thing
Guys you bleed the brakes starting with the wheel that has the longest brake line. Not the farthest wheel. This isn't the same. One brake line delivers the brake fluid from the master cylinder to the rear of the car. Then it changes to a flexible line and goes to the differential. Now depending on where the tee is( right or left side of the rear end) determines which brake is farthest away. If the tee is on the passenger side then the farthest path is the left rear wheel. If the tee is on the left side then the farthest path to the brake is on the right side. If you know, you know
Nate I agree with the other folks start with the brake cylinder furthest away. Also, you keep the bleeder closed, pump the pu.p to z out 15 psi then open the bleeder. Just passing on some information for you two guys who pass on good information every day. Keep up the good work boys and girl.
You should be doing brake fluid furthest away first. Right rear, then left rear, then right front ,then left front
When bleeding brakes bleed the furthest wheel from master and proceed also when bleeding you don’t need a vacuum pump use the cup and hose suspend in the air and pump brakes until bubbles disappear because air loves to fly 😂
I pumped brakes as a kid for the old man for years, Always the back it's that exhaust rubbing its effect on poor Nate copping the full exhaust voodoo of pure wrong.
It’s OK to gently pry on the front half of an alternator’s body, because it’s thicker and has the adjustment on it. But if you pry on the back half, you could possibly damage the internal regulator or windings, the back half is usually not as thick and they’re re held on with just for a little bolts.
The exhaust pipes are quite short and end in such a way that there is a high risk of carbon dioxide getting into the cockpit.
Put some freakin heat on that undercoating and push it off with scraper. Sheesh!
Ice works better than heat to remove that body deadener
It’s FRIDAY, yep-it-d-do-daa Bad Chad Nation, hit the like and help the Channel grow.
Hey BIG HEAD BROTHER
When using a suction pump, put some Teflon tape on the threads of the fittings to keep any air leakage as you lossen the fittings.
Chad, it would be interesting if you gave the the time and temperature there at the beginning of each show now that we are heading into winter. I noticed you guys were wearing jackets. The new bleeder tool looks cool...but I never bleed brakes that often to need one.
The shocks should be short enough to keep the springs in the spring pockets
HI and Gday from sunny Queensland , that bloke said " you start bleeding brakes shortest line first " WRONG WRONG WRONG , trick is ,,,, start bleeding the furthest away from the master cylinder,,, is why he had to bleed the system 3 times , tis ok , i guess that is the way Newfies do things , cheers
As cheap as brake fluid is. How can you dum it back in the jug. Just a little contamination will ruin a brake hydraulic system.
I am trying to play catch up on current things. And yes, the brakes were bled wrong.. maybe Nate does things differently.. as long as the car stops, awesome. Yet.. the Big problem.. a stuck clutch.. Wow! Should have separated and inspected everything.. Now, if you are fortunate enough to disengage the clutch from the flywheel or pressure plate.. You are gonna have a damn good Shit Show! You will hear what I mean..lol
I like the dog too,, but it can’t read and doesn’t know that you’re saying hi to it,,,
Always bleed the furthest wheel first. Every brake guy knows that. Would not want him working on my car.
That looks like some old brake fluid that you are using. It looks like it may have been opened. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, it absorbs water from the air. I always start with a fresh bottle, then throw away the remainder.
The trouble with vacuum method is it draws air from the threads of the bled nipple.
Could make a Dougles wobbles head
A quick tip for removing the undercoat in the fenders or in a trunk..... you will find it in a lot of places. You take a bag of ice or a frozen whatever and place it on top so the undercaot gets really cold ! This helps you because it now becomes brittle and it chips away really easy. In the shop I had some hot water bottes you may have used to warm or cool when you are hurtin or sick but, if you use anything frozen it makes it brittle ! Give it a try or not , but it's worked for me while working on wrecked cars that you are replacing pannels and you need to clean it off ! Have a great day everybody !
It's Friday. Go TEAM HILTZ
I hope Aiden will still be welcomed to learn from Nate.
I like the idea with the copper pipes coming from the radiator you can shine those really out
£10.00 in the swear jar in our shop!
People on here saying bleed the one that’s the farthest away from master cylinder, that might be true on a dual master cylinder, because when you pump it the front brakes start stopping first, on this there’s no proportion valve, so on this he is doing it right
Heat gun and paint scraper for under body sealer is the best Way
🤞 Go for it Team Hiltz 👁 🐅 👌
Beautiful dog"🐕 there’s times she needs ear muffs
I've found out that if you bleed brakes with a vacuum you'll likely never ger fluid without air bubbles as air sucks in around the bleeder screws.
Volvo /50mercury is looking good
He needs to sandblast those fenders! 😮
maybe a new clutch would help ?
I’ve never bleed brakes from closest to the farthest . I go from farthest to closest to the master cylinder . They may need research info
That brake fluid bottle looks like it's been around for some time
Water pumps take a 5/8" belt. Speedway has the pully for the alt.
I pray that nate was joking about you start at the shortest brake first because just like bleeding hydronic heat, you ALWAYS start at the furthest one away because it has the most freaking travel and most area to hold air. Usually by the time you get to the shortest one you don't have any air.
Chad ,Jolene ,Nate , Doug and Fina , An interesting variety today between the finishing adjustments to Jolene's Race Car . Everything is coming together for a well built car both auto body ( Chad) and mechanical.( Nate ) Great Filming and production ( Jolene ) Super Assistant ( Doug )
love that little fina !!!!..shop dogs rock
Another great episode, love hearing all the comradery and laughing clearly a fun environment. For the Volvo undercoat, an oscillating tool with a scraper bit works great, keep up the great work.👍👍🇺🇲
Bring it on
Hey Pat 🙋♂️
Chad, you need to make a rusty cover to disguise the Alternator !
He took the hose off the master cylinder... Then he closed the bleeder valve ... Uh huh ....
Right rear first more Mickey mouse workmanship
It doesn't matter on an old system without proportion valves and ABS. 😉✌
@Bobsteven881. Good advice is welcomed more often than cheeky criticism Bob we are all friends on here. 🙂
Doug said the pedal was great, what more do ya want. 😁✌
When's the last time you've let any breaks you probably don't even know what they look like
@@Bobsteven881 I was not trying to instigate a slanging match with you. was just passing you a bit of polite advice on respect I don't fix cars so yes maybe I don't know the correct way to do it. may be you could film how it is done and send it on here. see how you do it.🙂
Awesome, Thanks
I was taught the farest away from the master cylinder and work your way forward. I don't know if you guys have harbor freight but harbor freight has those that you hook your airline to for under 20 bucks works great
