UPDATE JAN-25: I believe Microsoft have introduced changes to effectively block this method for starting a Fabric free trial. I'm currently speaking to Microsoft about the best way forward. See this discussion for more: www.skool.com/microsoft-fabric/problems-starting-a-new-fabric-free-trials-an-update
Microsoft needs to show leniency and support for those that only got 60 days free trial from azure versus those that are now getting a full year of azure free trial. This coupled with fabric learning should be FREE for at least a year. Thank you for what you are doing Will.
After the setup of entraID, and enabled fabric trial, my home page seems to only contain Power BI and Synapse Data Science. I can't access any other apps.
Hi Will! Once you create a sandbox environment, how can you use data in PowerBI? On a free account, I can only provide links to a one drive or SharePoint, but this sandbox environment does not create an MS office account right?
Ran into an problem! Created the account and everything but I'm unable to access any of the apps besides PowerBI after signing up in Fabric, could you look into this?
Solved it, never mind. Just had to click on the right hand panel and upgrade to a free trial. This wasn't the same as in the video because there was no workspace button at the bottom left.
@@LearnMicrosoftFabric So when I created an work account using Entra ID, I was able to start the Trail, But as soon as I tried to open up lakehouse or anyother services in fabirc it says "Unable to create this item, Unfortunately your Microsoft tenant has reached the maximum number of available free trail". Can you try your method once again with a new account
Sadly this method does not work for me. After the setup of entrant id and role assignment, it takes me straight to the Power BI page and not the data fabric page. No way to navigate back from Power BI to fabric page as shown.
Hi will I have created Microsoft id and added credit card details...Is there any charge for using fabric resources....Please let me know it will help me thanks
Thank you, Will, for the information, I don't even know we have to have the fabric tenant account for DP-600 exam. I have my account and am using it in fabric.
HI Will, I just came back again to see this nice tutorial. My fabric trial is ending soon, and now I see the option to "Request trial renewal". However, I read somewhere that the best option is to create another fabric user and start with a 60 day trial. Should I press the "Request trial renewal" button or cancel my current trial, create a new user in Azure and start a new trial? I delete all the resources after a "lab". No resources need to keep!
I can do add Data warehouses and data flows,... in fabric right (that uses compute)? Just not any other things inside Azure? Not really sure what you meant with resources in Azure.
Hi Will, thanks for this video. Question: once my fabric trial expires, can I create a new user and redo the steps you mentioned for a trial "extension"?
I believe that is possible yes, Microsoft mention this approach in the documentation: learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/get-started/fabric-trial#end-a-fabric-trial
@@LearnMicrosoftFabric Indeed... I just hope this works with my free Azure account. Thanks Will! "If the Fabric trial expires, Microsoft can’t extend your trial capacity. Instead, start a new trial with a different user. If you have workspaces with Fabric items, assign those workspaces to that new trial capacity."
@@LearnMicrosoftFabric For some reason, I am not able to find the following text: " Instead, start a new trial with a different user." Did something change already?
Hey will, I have an azure student subscription credits to my personal account with around 40$ left in it. Now when I create an EntraID for fabric within my personal account, Do I need to have a subscription for newly created EntraID account to create Fabric Capacity in Azure Portal? Or is there a way to use from those left credits? Thanks in Advance. Great content by the way.
Thanks for this video! Just to be sure, if I only work on Fabric it won't cost me anything, right? But if I work on Azure, that will cost me money? Correct?
Yes if you work within the Fabric free trial, you won't have to pay. Any resources you create in Azure (e.g. a Pay as you go Fabric Capacity, or any other Azure resources) will cost you money. 👍
Technically yes, but as I mentioned in another comment, I’ve been using a free trial since May 2023 (more than 60 days!) and I don’t know anyone in our Skool community that has had their trial finish
Yes, but there is no charge for creating a user in Entra ID. That’s why I mentioned the caution at the end. Don’t create any other resources in Azure if you don’t want to be charged 👍
Technically yes, but the 60-day trial at the moment doesn’t end (this might change in the future though). On a different account I’ve been using the same free trial since May 2023
@@LearnMicrosoftFabricHi Will, what do you mean that the 60 day trial does not end? If my trial is soon to expire (1 day before), I was thinking about canelling the trial to be sure I won't get charged or funny surprises... now you are saying that the trial does not end! Should I cancel or not? Thanks!
@@cellentmaya1533 Yes things have changed since I posted that comment. The trial is now expiring for most people. Feel free to cancel before the trial ends, but I don't think you will be charged unless you purchase an F-SKU in Azure Portal

This is gold! Thanks Master
Thanks, next lesson has now been released 👀😊
Does Azure for Students account also work?
After the setup of entraID, and enabled fabric trial, my home page seems to only contain Power BI and Synapse Data Science. I can't access any other apps.
I have the same problem, have you been able to solve it?
Same Problem here... any solution?
I guess you need to create a workspace to see all the fabric experiences, hope this will help

Thanks for the credit! Great video and keep up the good content 👍
No worries - love your content 🙌

This method is not working now Will. Please Help as I have already scheduled my exam but not able to start lakehouse or any other products
In what way is it not working?

Should just be able to go to app.fabric.microsoft.com 👍
This is awesome! thanks for this information!!
No problem, glad it was useful 😀

There’s a small section in the exam on the Fabric Admin and Capacity Settings 👍

@@LearnMicrosoftFabric I guess there is no more "create new trial" option! Thanks Will!
do we need to give card details to get azure account
Yes
Did you fill paymet information ?
I live in spain ,So do i have to change my profile city?
Yes you will have to fill payment information, but you won't get billed, unless you create other resources in Azure
I can do add Data warehouses and data flows,... in fabric right (that uses compute)? Just not any other things inside Azure?
Not really sure what you meant with resources in Azure.
Yes correct, feel free to create Fabric items. just not within the Azure Portal, where you will be charged
Is Azure account in subscription? Do I need to cancel after free trial?
Hi, the Azure account is free IF you don't create any new resources in Azure 👍

Not 100% sure on how the student subscription works to be honest, but I would guess it still works..? Give it a go and find out!

Valuable stuff Will. After setting up this would live only 60 days right? I think the count down starts to burn down continuously on all regions.

Excellent info, just to confirm, will this only still give a 60-day trial of fabric?
