Kyia Croft you could start running on your own long distance (even if you don’t plan on running long distance) just to start building your stamina. And you could do full body workouts ( there are plenty on TH-cam) to start building up your muscles
Lmao this is literally me. I'm in freshman rn and am starting track in a week or something, and I have barely any knowledge of running but I enjoy it and am already decently fit, so I'm probably to push myself to the limit so I make a good impression to my peers, etc.
I did cross country and dang… it was so hard but I pushed through it and every meet was so hard until the last meet one I told me self DO NOT STOP make this race worth it! I ended up not stopping but it’s SO worth it I got like 40 places higher that way. I’m planning to try out for track and friend now which I have done before and loved and I’m really good at sprinting and everyone on my cc team tells me I’m so fast and I’ve been told that my whole life! I know track and field isn’t all about speed I’m also gonna do long jump and shot put! Wish me luck!

KiddoArmani your coach will most likely help you navigate what event is best for you because it varies from person to person. But to get better, push yourself outside your comfort zone during practices. Every time you push yourself you’ll reach a new comfort level and progress as a runner. Also make sure that you’re doing weight training and running drills. (If you don’t do them in practice you can find some online) And the mind is very powerful so believe in yourself and what you want to accomplish and then go for it

You have nothing to lose if you do but you could lose out on a great opportunity if you don’t. And try to get out of your head.
