I genuinely got emotional when Evert repped being undocumented and all that his family has done to succeed. That’s a real American success story, never stop telling it. Y’all got something real going here, keep pushing.
Also was brought to US when I was small. Also played soccer my whole life. Played in high school and ran cross country. Ran for a community college and received a full ride to an NAIA school, graduated college debt free as an immigrant. Another Mexica making it here. Wasn’t as fast you but took advantage of every opportunity. Good shit Evert!
I’m Hispanic and white and I look up to you man Ik I may not look typically Hispanic but I’m decends from immigrants and your families story inspires me you are who I want to be as a runner and keep going man you can do it
Holy cow, I was not expecting Ev’s story to move me as much as it did. As a Mexican myself (but born here in the states) and a runner, I can definitely relate to being told that people like me aren’t supposed to make it, but you gotta prove the haters wrong. It’s rare to see faces that look like my own whenever I’m at a meet, so seeing Ev doing so well and absolutely crushing it makes me feel really happy, less alone, and inspired. Mis padres también son de Acapulco! :) Evert representing la raza out here making us proud. 🇲🇽✊🏽😎 Thanks for making this video Ben! :) The background photos are immaculate 😂👌🏽
Damn I was born in Fresno and no one has ever told me I "wasn't supposed to make it". What kind of people did you guys surround yourself with? Like honest question, I have never been around this so called racism and people from all ethnicity's have helped me better myself, especially the white folk. The worse "racism", I experienced in Fresno was from my own race lmao telling me I shouldn't dream so high and that I won't make it.
Attack Chopper I was born in Washington state and I still live in Washington state. I live in a state and town that is dominantly white and my town is filled dominantly with white conservatives, I have received racist comments from many, not only at xc and track meets, but in school, and in simple day to day life, and as someone who has taken a sociology course and is studying political science in college, systemic racism does exist, and if you don’t believe that it’s either because you’re genuinely unaware and not educated on the manner or you’re simply in denial of an ugly truth. I recommend you also take a sociology and political science course to learn about the mater from a scholarly perspective, I’m sure you’ll learn a lot. I’m glad you have never received any racial slurs from others, were never told you’re not supposed to make it, or had racist comments directed at you, but please note that your personal experience does not account for everybody else’s. The people whom have been racist towards me are not people who I consider to be by friends. I surround myself with people who respect me and my cultural/ethnic background. Just because someone experiences racism does not mean they received it from people who they intentionally surround themselves with. Again, know that your own personal experiences do not equate to everybody else’s experience.
Attack Chopper Also, I’m sorry that your own ethic group told you not to dream so high, but that’s not racism, that’s discouragement and just plain rude. Sorry you’ve had to hear that from your own community, but dream as high and you can, dude. There are no limits for how big you can dream. :)
@@Mary_Matcha What part of Washington? I live in Washington, the town I live in is also the majority white folk, but I love this place lol everyone is friendly and I like being the only one of my kinds round these parts lol Like I said, the majority of the white folk around here have encouraged me and pushed me forward. A big reason I left Fresno was because all the hispanic folk around there are such deby downers with no hopes and dreams and bring you down big time. Also like I said, I've never seen it either but there is always going to be racism and if anyone is racist towards me, ill take it for what it is and just move on, oh well people are a holes sometimes.
Hey evert you’re such an inspiring dude! I hope I can keep pushing my self in the sport of running just like you. And I hope that I can spread God’s love in the process. They’re awesome to watch before/after a good run
Evert’s story really resonated with and inspired me a lot, being a 1st gen US born citizen to Salvadoran Immigrants. Looking at Evert’s times and races really motivates me to be better and better at running. Evert to me is the voice of all Hispanic/Latino runners.

I come from a family of immigrants which is my ultimate motivator. My family always stressed doing something they were not able to do. I finished high school breaking 10 and now I’m juco and just hoping to make it to the big leagues one day. Evert is a real one🙏🏿🙏🏿💪🏽💪🏽
I look forward to learning more about you and watching your success in running. I've watched all of the videos on this channel and you are one crazy character. I don't see how anybody would not like you. You add flavor to every video you're in, and your cooking is impressive. It makes me hungry every time you cook on the videos. Never stop being yourself, because you're awesome!!!

Evert I love you man - I’m an old white guy and I’m not racist but the brain loses plasticity and sometimes it’s hard for us to not think these movements are just kids being kids. but ppl like you and killer mike and probably some other ppl that don’t come to mind really help it resonate in a way that helps (me at least) get it. I appreciate your work and your message.
Thought I was getting a Facebook message on my laptop when TH-cam pushed this title/reminder. I was feeling a little concerned and targeted about the imposing question... like I don't know him... but like someone knows I watch way too many of these videos while I'm running at the gym. Glad I'm just sharing this info with you all.
Thats my biggest dream so far tho, finish college here n go live or try to go live at boulder n train to be a pro. Ive nvr been on a track/cross country team, since here I always train alone with the help of no one n somedays I feel like quiting but then I see ur videos n I keep all hyped again n just wanting to be out there runnning. Hey Evert or Ben, is there footage of the 2 mile race that Evert is talking about in this video where he finally beat his HS rival? I can't find it anywhere on youtube and I wanted to see it if possible. Thanks guys for the great content and stories! You're a great bunch of people! Also, I think ESPN of FOX sports should hire Ben to do these types of interview videos and relaxed-style training videos of a wider range of runners/possibly other track athletes so that the public can get to know who these athletes are. I think it would really help support the sport and increase its appeal to those who might otherwise not be interested. You do great work Ben. Also, as a compliment to Evert, (I hope you read this) I don't know you personally but your personality in the videos reminds me a lot of my little brother who died of brain cancer last November. So full of love and joy to spread to those around you. I'm sure you and he would be friends if you knew each other. There should be more people like you guys out in the world.

All those years of soccer probably helped but still....its impressive how quickly he improved
