I was disfellowshipped and years later, I still couldn't get the theology out my head. I felt condemned by Jehovah and by man. It was only when I came across an article about the NGO status of the gov body, that I began to question them. After doing a lot of research I came to the conclusion that these were not Gods representatives on Earth. I was lied too. Thankfully I found peace and Truth in Jesus. One of the biggest mistakes is that we should read the Bible, not a Watchtower. I urge everyone here to Read it for yourselves, and then compare it too what you've been taught. You will never get to the conclusion that they are right.

Well, that’s not totally accurate. They continued because it effectively reinforces the indoctrination in the extant members and their kids. A quick look at the yearbooks shows the “preaching work” hasn’t ever been all that effective for recruiting new members.
This cult destroyed multiple aspects of my family. My mother is disfellowshipped. Everyone in my family woke up and left this crock of shit except my uncle and grandmother. Im a 31 year old man and my uncle still tries to preach to me and get me to come back to meetings. I think one of the worst things about this religion is how judgmental the people in the congregations are. The very opposite of what a christian should be. My mother has been through hell and back because of this cult. My uncle and grandmother are brainwashed to the point of no return. When i was 14 years old the elders in our congregation singled me out because I had long hair and would always tell me to get a haircut. May sound stupid but as a 14 year in high school it annoyed me and pissed me off. They threatened to take me off the "theocratic ministry school" because of the length of my hair. So glad i left and majority of my family left the cult.
Some advice for dealing with witness family members. Don’t get into the doctrinal weeds with them. Just point out the obvious nonsense like their false dates on the end of the world, Beth serim, the sex abuse scandals and the lack of charity, and all their land holdings and money. I also like pointing out all the similarities with their sworn enemies, the Catholics. Examples are both centralized authorities, sex abuse scandals and the shuffling of clergy to cover it up, their huge coffers and vast land holdings and the practice of shunning .
i understand how you feel pretty well- i can’t say i completely relate, but i was raised as a christian scientist and much of my mother’s side still practices. i find particular similarities between my experience and that of ex mormons and ex JWs. for me there were the usual childhood issues that come with being raised in a new age christian group. at 22 i still struggle with certain aspects of my relationship with my mom and the knowledge and fear that she will never leave. not sure how close you are/were with your uncle and grandma but if you were and it kinda haunts you that they’re stuck there, you’re not alone. mainly i want to reassure you that NO one is beyond the pale. they can still break free as long as their brains work. i’m sorry man and much love

One of the reasons I stopped reading or listening directly to watchtower material is how aggravating and insulting it is to people who left and no longer believe in their teachings… they present you as unintelligent immature an imbecile being tricked by Satan … when in reality it’s their way of manipulating the believers not to ever get to be viewed that way and sticking with the organization no matter how much they see something wrong with it.

I can't believe par 6 where they say "we are able to compare bible teachings with the direction we receive from the organisation. I brought up a topic we both first agreed on: "It would be foolish to be so closeminded about the religion of our own and its doctrines, that it would be an obstacle and hindered us from critically examining its objectively and critically. "So,it is I as an Eastern orthodox, Catholics, Lutherans, Pentecostalians, and others are to do that, even if that criticism came from their former members and would challenge their religion?" -Yes, absolutely! So, I guess your religion as well ,recommends its members to be as critical concerning its doctrines and history, and even listen to its own former members? -For some reason they told me thereafter that they have a next appointment and were almost late from it. Honestly these guys are absolutely monsters. I'm still lucky enough that my parents will talk to me, but they feel fully confident in gaslighting me when I say that I was afraid to tell him how I actually felt because of this fellowshipment. I didn't want to be shunned. My dad literally said it was baloney. That's not true. I just shut up and was like I'm done. I can't do this.
Yeah I'm one of the very few lucky ones as I told my parents I didn't believe it anymore, stopped going to meetings, and 3 years later got df'd for associating with a df'd friend. Made a mockery of the judicial meeting as I brought my friend with me as my witness to testify that he never associates with me. Elders didn't think it was funny and wouldn't let him in. I told them I just wanted to be left alone and if course they blamed me for "making it a hardship" for my family. Told them if they enforce shunning I won't sue Watchtower, or the congregation, I'll sue each of them personally and I demanded their names and addresses. The day it got announced my mom called and ensured me that nothing was going to change and nothing did. In fact when I went through a divorce, and then later was homeless they let me stay with them which is a huge no no. Recently my mom told me if I got reinstated I could stay with her indefinitely but that's not going to happen. She mentions the big changes to me but I don't get into conversations about it. I HATE that she gives them $25 a week. I'm so happy that when Dad passed it was c19 so no kingdom hall funeral (he eventually admitted to me that he regretted bringing people into the org and that he didn't believe a lot of the teachings anymore). The only problem is when my mom passes I'll be catatonic for about two years, and I'm really hoping they don't do a JW funeral. Ugh I don't even want to think about it.
We probably don’t agree much on religion, but as a Christian, I’m really impressed by your understanding of theology. Watching these videos and seeing the context of those who grossly misinterpret the Bible is actually teaching me a lot.

Just subscribed, i grew up jw and didnt fully wake up untill about 5 years ago. I was still living in fear of Armageddon happening any day, the anxiety i live with is from being told the end of the world was right around the corner, it all makes sense now.

This is known as infantalizing behaviour. It mimics the cooing, soft welcoming sounds a mother might make to a baby. JW's don't want 'thinkers', they want 'feelers' joining them. A thinker is prone to criticism or asks awkward questions whereas a feeler will be looking for safety and support. They view the feeler as teachable and sheep-like.

I was raised as a catholic, was active in the church for many years, but left when I started to have friends from other religions. Brazil is a country of many cultures and religions, and I couldn't personally follow any religion with the "I am on the only true faith" mindset. I love studies about psychology, specifically about abusive behavior, like narcissism, cults, control, manipulation etc. But when my JW girlfriend first broke up with me, I was psychologically vulnerable and attempted suicide. Note: I have BPD, she was my favorite person and I'm also trans. Her reasoning was that our relationship is against Jehovah's will and she was doing that so I could think about my life and seek salvation in JW's teachings. So, I was sent to the psychiatric section of the public hospital. Broken, feeling like I was beyond repair and alone. I went through rejection because of my identity for almost a decade in my core family. Although, they were accepting and supporting me at that time, her words triggered that traumatic experience. And, oh boy... in the psychiatric ward I was, there was a JW woman that was more than happy to be my friend. I gotta say, when we are at our most vulnerable state, it is really hard to not trust the promise of salvation and eternal peace and happiness. I only scratched the surface of the indoctrination process with the fellow patient, but it almost got me to make the decision of converting. I thank my parents every single day for gently saying, day by day, until I got better, that I should wait and not act out of impulse. They literally saved me from even more suffering and self hatred. I was disfellowshipped and years later, I still couldn't get the theology out my head. I felt condemned by Jehovah and by man. It was only when I came across an article about the NGO status of the gov body, that I began to question them. After doing a lot of research I came to the conclusion that these were not Gods representatives on Earth. I was lied too. Thankfully I found peace and Truth in Jesus. One of the biggest mistakes is that we should read the Bible, not a Watchtower. I urge everyone here to Read it for yourselves, and then compare it too what you've been taught. You will never get to the conclusion that they are right.

Well, that’s not totally accurate.
They continued because it effectively reinforces the indoctrination in the extant members and their kids. A quick look at the yearbooks shows the “preaching work” hasn’t ever been all that effective for recruiting new members.
This cult destroyed multiple aspects of my family. My mother is disfellowshipped. Everyone in my family woke up and left this crock of shit except my uncle and grandmother. Im a 31 year old man and my uncle still tries to preach to me and get me to come back to meetings.
I think one of the worst things about this religion is how judgmental the people in the congregations are. The very opposite of what a christian should be. My mother has been through hell and back because of this cult. My uncle and grandmother are brainwashed to the point of no return.
When i was 14 years old the elders in our congregation singled me out because I had long hair and would always tell me to get a haircut. May sound stupid but as a 14 year in high school it annoyed me and pissed me off. They threatened to take me off the "theocratic ministry school" because of the length of my hair. So glad i left and majority of my family left the cult.

Some advice for dealing with witness family members. Don’t get into the doctrinal weeds with them. Just point out the obvious nonsense like their false dates on the end of the world, Beth serim, the sex abuse scandals and the lack of charity, and all their land holdings and money.
I also like pointing out all the similarities with their sworn enemies, the Catholics.
Examples are both centralized authorities, sex abuse scandals and the shuffling of clergy to cover it up, their huge coffers and vast land holdings and the practice of shunning .

i understand how you feel pretty well- i can’t say i completely relate, but i was raised as a christian scientist and much of my mother’s side still practices. i find particular similarities between my experience and that of ex mormons and ex JWs. for me there were the usual childhood issues that come with being raised in a new age christian group. at 22 i still struggle with certain aspects of my relationship with my mom and the knowledge and fear that she will never leave. not sure how close you are/were with your uncle and grandma but if you were and it kinda haunts you that they’re stuck there, you’re not alone. mainly i want to reassure you that NO one is beyond the pale. they can still break free as long as their brains work. i’m sorry man and much love

One of the reasons I stopped reading or listening directly to watchtower material is how aggravating and insulting it is to people who left and no longer believe in their teachings… they present you as unintelligent immature an imbecile being tricked by Satan … when in reality it’s their way of manipulating the believers not to ever get to be viewed that way and sticking with the organization no matter how much they see something wrong with it.

When we see that the guidance we receive is based on the scriptures , our confidence in Jehovah's organisation grows". They say this after the annual meeting where they admitted the bible does not say men can't have beards, the bible does not say they must report ministry hours, the bible does not say that everyone in Sodom snd Gomorrah will not be resurrected, and it does not say that after the great tribulation starts it is too late. I brought up a topic we both first agreed on: "It would be foolish to be so closeminded about the religion of our own and its doctrines, that it would be an obstacle and hindered us from critically examining its objectively and critically. "So,it is I as an Eastern orthodox, Catholics, Lutherans, Pentecostalians, and others are to do that, even if that criticism came from their former members and would challenge their religion?" -Yes, absolutely!

Honestly these guys are absolutely monsters. I'm still lucky enough that my parents will talk to me, but they feel fully confident in gaslighting me when I say that I was afraid to tell him how I actually felt because of this fellowshipment. I didn't want to be shunned. My dad literally said it was baloney. That's not true. I just shut up and was like I'm done. I can't do this.
Yeah I'm one of the very few lucky ones as I told my parents I didn't believe it anymore, stopped going to meetings, and 3 years later got df'd for associating with a df'd friend. Made a mockery of the judicial meeting as I brought my friend with me as my witness to testify that he never associates with me. Elders didn't think it was funny and wouldn't let him in. I told them I just wanted to be left alone and if course they blamed me for "making it a hardship" for my family. Told them if they enforce shunning I won't sue Watchtower, or the congregation, I'll sue each of them personally and I demanded their names and addresses. The day it got announced my mom called and ensured me that nothing was going to change and nothing did. In fact when I went through a divorce, and then later was homeless they let me stay with them which is a huge no no. Recently my mom told me if I got reinstated I could stay with her indefinitely but that's not going to happen. She mentions the big changes to me but I don't get into conversations about it. I HATE that she gives them $25 a week. I'm so happy that when Dad passed it was c19 so no kingdom hall funeral (he eventually admitted to me that he regretted bringing people into the org and that he didn't believe a lot of the teachings anymore). The only problem is when my mom passes I'll be catatonic for about two years, and I'm really hoping they don't do a JW funeral. Ugh I don't even want to think about it.

They can not legitimately compare themselves to apostles… yes both claim anointed but big and most important difference is that the apostles claimed inspiration by Holy Spirit. They are not on the same playing field.

JW's don't want 'thinkers', they want 'feelers' joining them. A thinker is prone to criticism or asks awkward questions whereas a feeler will be looking for safety and support. They view the feeler as teachable and sheep-like.

I was raised as a catholic, was active in the church for many years, but left when I started to have friends from other religions. Brazil is a country of many cultures and religions, and I couldn't personally follow any religion with the "I am on the only true faith" mindset. I love studies about psychology, specifically about abusive behavior, like narcissism, cults, control, manipulation etc. But when my JW girlfriend first broke up with me, I was psychologically vulnerable and attempted suicide. Note: I have BPD, she was my favorite person and I'm also trans. Her reasoning was that our relationship is against Jehovah's will and she was doing that so I could think about my life and seek salvation in JW's teachings.
So, I was sent to the psychiatric section of the public hospital. Broken, feeling like I was beyond repair and alone. I went through rejection because of my identity for almost a decade in my core family. Although, they were accepting and supporting me at that time, her words triggered that traumatic experience.
And, oh boy... in the psychiatric ward I was, there was a JW woman that was more than happy to be my friend. I gotta say, when we are at our most vulnerable state, it is really hard to not trust the promise of salvation and eternal peace and happiness. I only scratched the surface of the indoctrination process with the fellow patient, but it almost got me to make the decision of converting. I thank my parents every single day for gently saying, day by day, until I got better, that I should wait and not act out of impulse. They literally saved me from even more suffering and self hatred.
