  • After many years of unfortunate luck my hard work and continued dedication pays off as Eric and I set out for an OTC bull elk. I've hunted this Colorado OTC unit for a few years now with very close calls. It's a fantastic feeling being able to put it all together on my first bull elk.
Disclaimer - the only reason I was comfortable taking the shot I did at 550 yards was because I was shooting a 300-Weatherby Mag. I’m very confident in that shot. The hit was lethal and the bull didn't go more than 100 yards from the first hit. Thanks for watching!

BTW, a well deserved success. You guys earned every second of your hunt. You planned it, you drove there, you invested your time and you was rewarded for your hard work. Like we all do, practice makes perfect but I don't think anybody else could have done that better. Good job guys.

Thanks Jason, appreciate the words. Certainly some lessons learned and definitely some things I would've done a bit differently after taking the time to analyze everything. That's how we learn though.

Great bull! It's not always one-and-done, rifle or bow, but a bull down is a bull down. Being able to watch the shot through the scope helps a ton. My bull this year came after 3 years of striking out so I can relate to the relief of getting it done after coming home empty handed so many times. Congrats again!

Thanks Thomas! It's been a grind and really appreciate the comments. Means a lot! I learn a lot on every trip and will continue to refine! Congrats on your bull as well!

Young guy's out Elk hunting instead of sleeping in every day and staying awake until 3:00 am. Good job young men, as with everything else with age everything gets better, you will learn a lot of lessons from your own experience and you will correct any mistakes. Thanks for sharing your hunt and good job. 🥂 to many more.

Awesome video and hunt. Bummer your buddy couldn’t call your hits out for you..3 misses left could’ve really helped adjust that windage. Been in that situation before myself. However a dead elk can’t get any deader, nice work and great bull

Thanks man! Yeah he felt terrible… we didn’t have a spotting scope since we packed in (and didn’t need the added weight) so he was behind the binoculars. That said he would jump every time I shot so never got a good read… it would’ve helped, lol.
      Appreciate the comment!

Amazing, I did the exact same thing this year! Same season, same state, same rack, 5X6. High pressured unit. It seems they were in abundance this year, 2nd OTC.
    Congrats!

      Abundance..??? The elk?
You’ve no clue as to the critical situation is with the elk population in Colorado. With the massive winter die off of 22-23…and Chronic Wasting Disease running rampant…infecting moose/deer/elk…hunting in Colorado with become very hard to get a tag and in the northwest section of Colorado where the bulk of elk were..were…hunting will snd is being restricted to the absolute state mandated minimum in many GMU’s.
Further…savvy hunters from out of state that hunted there knows full well Colorado is not their prized hunting location and many seen through the DOW’s mis-management years ago..years ago!!
On top on that….habitat loss through development of various types has continued..further eroding historic migration destinations for elk/deer/antelope.
The entire area of Colorado of prime big game habitat..I 70 and west of the front range up to the Wyoming/Utah border has been abused and raped.
Case in point..Peceance Creek..once the “Worlds” largest migratory mile deer herd in the world..The World!! Ceased to exist many many years ago due to winter due off of 1983 plus the destruction of habitat through natural gas exploration. You have no idea what those drilling companies did to that fragile habitat!! But we do!!
I was privileged I guess to have seen what wild Colorado once was..but uh…it’s dying fast.
      Just saying.

Congrats on the bull…! Had me nervous as hell those first 3 shots… very lucky that bull didn’t take off!
Hopefully your buddy gets better at calling your misses!

Thanks Brandon! You and me both! 550 yards and he was looking through his binoculars so don't really blame him.. Different story if we had a spotting scope! But yeah.. Could've made for some easy adjustments!

If you like hunting more than attention, you need to take this down ASAP. Anyone who has ever been there will know exactly where you were hunting. The attention isn't worth burning a spot.

    • @silentterrain4391
      @silentterrain4391  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Appreciate you looking out but no - in the last 3 years hunting back in here I've come across 1 other hunter. They weren't hunting elk, either. If someone came to me directly and could tell me exactly where this was, it would be a different story. Even if they knew - odds are they won't hunt it.
That said - I don't care about the attention. I'm simply sharing my story.
