      It's true that some are Super Target , but Target is slowly phasing them out, because unlike Meijer, who has been in the Superstore business since 1962, Target has had trouble with their demographics willing to buy clothes, and groceries at the same store. From what I've been told, that it's the shareholders who pressured Target to get into the grocery business. Since the Super Targets haven't been that success for them, they've just chosen to put a limited selection of food in their stores, and focus on soft goods. They were started by Daytons in 1962, to provide a discount business for the higher income shoppers who won't go to Walmart, or in the early days, Kmart. Walmart didn't get into the Superstore business until 1989, and slowly expanded their business with the superstores. It worked for Walmart. Meijer, while only concentrated in 6 Midwestern states, originally started out as a grocery store in 1934, and took a gamble with the superstore format in 1962, and slowly expanded with this format. They have similar demographics to Target, but slightly lower income, but still does well with their stores, but groceries are the main focus at Meijer, and general merchandise Second. They've hoping to be in Pennsylvania and Minnesota soon, and Meijer is looking at Target's hometown of Minneapolis as their first market in Minnesota.

    Originally Target didn’t have groceries at all. Then some stores added some nonperishable sections. The newest Targets have full grocery sections but it’s hard to tell before going inside which kind you’ll get.
    The quality of the merchandise at Target is going to be better than Walmart. You’ll pay a little more.

It's very nice to be able to get whatever you need from gardening tools, pet food, medications, makeup, paint...anything without having to drive around from shop to shop. I was in a Super Target once in North Carolina. It was the second day of our exchange semester, and all us exchange students took the bus to buy like everything we needed for our stay, including like essential groceries, but also like all the household items. I remember all of us walking out of there with more bags than we could carry (some of us with almost full-length mirrors for our uni rooms). As we tried to figure out how to get all the stuff on the bus, a young mother approached 4 of us and asked if she could give us a lift back into town. She ended up driving each of us to their accomodation, it was so kind! And the same thing happened another group just a few minutes later with another friendly stranger. Gotta give it to the Americans, esp. in the South: the sure are super nice! That would never happen in Germany.
    Its kinda sad I never went to another Target again. The one in New York (where I lived for a while a few years later) was too out of my way I think, so I just ended up at Home Depot.

    Target mainly focuses on clothing, and housewares, where it's their specialty. Toys and electronic are mainly products that will easily sell. Groceries have never been their specialty, and haven't expanded the Super Target stores that much. In fact, in some areas of the country, they're phasing out the Super Target stores. All new stores, and remodeled stores will have a limited amount of food sold in their stores. If you ever get to the Midwest to Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, or Wisconsin, check out Meijer (pronounced my-er). It's the Dutch spelling for Meyer. They're similar to both Walmart and Target. It not only has a large selection of general merchandise, but also a full grocery department. Their electronics department isn't as large as Walmart or Target. I like their clothes and shoes much better than Target. To Phil, I don't know how old you were when Walmart came to Germany, but if you're not aware of why they failed there. Besides refusing to adapt to German culture, but also their refusal to let unions in their stores, along with trying to price the competition out of business, caused them to be fined so much, that they realized that they couldn't pay off the government there. So don't expect Walmart to come back to Germany. This was about the same reason they failed in France as well. Walmart is slowly selling off their stake in UK based ASDA, that I expect Walmart to leave the UK as well.

      The target in my town (in Kansas) has different sized mannequins now, but they were added in 2020 when the entire store went through a remodel. I believe Target is remodeling ALL of its stores nationwide, and I don't know how the pandemic has affected the timeline for completing their re-design/remodel.

    with six-packs it's simple: If there is a price given per can, you can buy it by can. If not, you cannot.

    • @davenwin1973
      @davenwin1973 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the 6 and 8 packs, they have different barcodes from the individual products. So if you take a can, or bottle that I'd part of a pack, you're going to pay for a pack. So it's best to get the pack. For the 20 fl.oz.(591ml) bottles, the individual bottles are usually available in the refrigerators near checkout, and will scan at the individual product price. As for the packs, the read I know that those products are more, is because despite having the same barcode on each bottle and can, is because that specific product has its unique barcode, so you don't have to look for a specific barcode to scan the pack . I also shop for other people.

A qick google gave me these numbers: The biggest French hypermarché (Carrefour de Villiers-en-Bière 28200 m²=303542 ft²) is 50% bigger than the biggest Target (Annapolis 200000ft²=18580m²) and bigger than the biggest Walmart in the US (Crossgates Commons 260,000 ft² =24,000 m²)
