I think everyone agrees that the process of making tamales is so worth it! I mean you can’t change the tamale, there’s nothing like unwrapping and enjoying the hard work you put in! This recipe is so good I followed it exactly!

Agreed! Unwrapping tamales is unwrapping a present 🎁 🫔

They do look tasty so many varieties of mole my mom combined a dark red mole with chicken or pork chops, the mole itself was a treat to dip your flour tortillas in 😛

Made pork tamales a few times but I must try these, especially like the way you folded them up and the dough consistency.

Is there such a thing as a tamale casserole? Making individual tamales seems like a lot of work but maybe a casserole type dish is something simpler. Great video by the way!

  • @hollish196

Can you use peanut oil instead of the avocado? I really want to make this mole. Haven't done it before, but this seems pretty easy. Pretty much like making egg rolls as far as the actual making process. A little fussy due to all the ingredients, but so is making lasagna. 80 steps to get one dish! And your cooking technique is great, as well as your teaching process.

Any oil thats neutral in flavor would work, like, canola, vegetable, and corn oil.

I’ve only ever seen Molé made with chocolate, have you ever made it with chocolate before or heard of that? if so do you know what part of Mexico version comes from?
I am very nervous because I plan on making these as part of our Christmas dinner, I bought some Maseca brand , I’m hoping it’s the right kind of masa! 🎄💕 have a wonderful Christmas celebration!

This one is Michoacán style. The one with chocolate is "Poblano." Hopefully some time soon I'll be making mole poblano.

The tamales are so much better with lard vs oil.
I always brown the chicken in the stock pot prior to making the stock for the mole!
Wonderful job! I normally check 2 or 3 tamales 🫔 fir doneness 😉

My grandmother taught me to put a penny in the water... if you stop hearing it rattle, you need more water... Can't for the life of me remember what we were cooking. Despite retiring to Mexico, I don't think she ever made tamales... she was french...
