It's because in so called "real world" Martin Lewis and such people are looked at like the kid who reminds the teacher about the homework. I've to say I have been guilty of the same. There times when people in my past jobs tried to make me do the right thing but I did not listen because it meant more work for me. This podcast was very sobering to me. I'll do my best to do better.
I have a ten, nearly 11 year old boy. I left his abusive father two years ago (who is now playing Disney dad). I have so little money, I'm utterly exhausted, my landlord has given me a no fault eviction notice because he wants to sell. I'm not in a good place at all mentally. I have thought today that perhaps my son would be better off without me, he could just go and have a lovely life with his rich dad and his step siblings But listening to the pain in this man's voice when he was talking about the death of his mother has made me realise that I really do need to stay alive. So I will, and maybe one day life will be easier than it is now
You did a great and very brave thing for yourself and boy by getting out of that situation. You should be proud of yourself and I really hope things work out for you💓
Sending hugs. Keep breathing. And your child is now old enough to understand when you say that you can’t afford to do some things. And to have sensible discussions about what to do about different options. So he feels like he has some power in the little family. Small decisions that at this stage don’t have a level of risk associated, because that is age appropriate. But this can grow as he grows. You become a team and work together. Even if it starts with we can have pudding this week, shall we have ice cream or cake. And he can take responsibility for some chores but give him a bit of autonomy on when they are done (but no choice about doing them!) . So don’t interrupt him when he’s in the middle of something to make him vacuum….. but he knows that’s his job and it has to be done X times in a month. Help him figure out when to fit that round what else is going on for both of you. Build the team. Really hope you can work together to move forward. Best of luck.
Your landlord has to take you to court and it can take over six months which gives you time to make plans. The shelter website has details and could support you can apply for council housing. CAB are also very good. Namaste 🙏
My son is almost 9, when he was 4 month old his abusive sperm donor snapped the hyoid bone in my neck almost killing me, he went on the run for 6 months in that time he terrorised me, posted indecent pictures of me online and threatened to petrol bomb my home when we slept. He was finally caught and got 3 years served just 18 months in prison. He's not bothered to know my son since he was 4 months old. We don't have much, I work but the cost of living makes things tough. I talk openly with my son about money, what things cost. I give him an allowance that he can spend or save, we budget together, go thrift shopping together and come up with fun ways to make extra money. This year he wants to grow sunflowers and sell them from the garden to save for a trip to Ireland. My son understands the value of money so when he spends it he's more careful and appreciates things more. Teach your son to understand money, you, like me, may not be able to provide our sons with money but we can teach them young to understand it which in the long term is going to have way more value than all the toys and trips he goes on with his dad. Things may seem tough right now, but believe me when I say I've been under many a dark cloud in my life and always, eventually, the clouds part and the sun comes beaming through. You've got love and ultimately that's all your son will ever need from you. Don't give up. There is help out there, don't be afraid to ask for it. Everyone needs help sometimes. 🙏
Martin Lewis is a proper hero for the working class and middle class in the UK. The big finance companies and credit providers etc must hate him. If only we could have some people like him in parliament.
I totally agree with you, if Martin had gone down a different road before he started the Money saving expert, If he decided at that point he may well have decided to be a politician, & if he had he would have made an excellent chancellor, & he would have been a very fair chancellor for the people Not the party! I’m not sure which party he would have joined at that time, or he may have started his own party, now there’s a thought 💭…..
What a truly amazing man. It brings home, just how corrupt and dysfunctional our political leaders really are. He alone is setting a world-class moral example.

My son runs a stag & hen company along with a partner. When covid lock down hit, he contacted all of the clients who had paid for their special fun weekend and spelt out what they as a company were going to do. He told them that this situation won't last forever, but you can have all your money back right away, or if you want to leave it with them, it would be perfectly safe. They have gone on to great things as they were just as straightforward with their suppliers as well! I am incredibly proud of his business acumen to create trust throughout troubling times! Martin is not alone in this constant battle with greedy rip-off companies.
I as a consumer respect decency and value. I don’t think it’s too much to ask. Your son deserves success but unfortunately being decent doesn’t always work. We live in a world of corruption and evil.
Only when politicians stop burning/banning kids books such as Roald Dahl's works and start educating themselves will things change or else our kids will continue to receive sub par education
You think the government wants to give this information to kids at school? People need to learn schools are there to train kids to run on the hamster wheel.

Some years ago I remember Martin Lewis saying "don't trust the banks, treat them like the enemy ". I have always followed his advice and it has stood me in good stead. Also I claimed four thousand pounds mis sold PPI back from the bank from following his advice. I would just like to say thank you to Martin.

My energy supplier recently told me that I - currently paying a quarter of my terrifyingly low income to cover their obscene rates despite my hot water being turned off and my home being so cold I can see my breath - don't qualify for financial assistance because I've gone without everything to make sure I stay in credit with them. I'm so grateful there are people like Martin Lewis in the world.
I'm in a very similar place living on small work pensions. Have turned off my gas no heating at all for 2 years no hot water. Sold my oven. Not yet state pensionable age never claimed anything before, worked all my life in care, social work and teaching but because I get no benefits not on state pension im not entitled to any support now.
My late mother used to say. “you cannot build happiness on the misery of others” Martin understands this very well. I truly courageous honourable man. The system we live in regularly builds on the misery of us all. Money is a tool that does make life more comfortable gives reassurance and ability to do more. We’re all striving to do.
Well the bigger picture is, England robbed everyone out there and no ow don’t want folk to come here to work to better themselves, we had no right robbing everyone, there’s no if or but, alcohol is one of the biggest curse here

During the ppi claim issue, I was sceptical until listening to Martin, so I sent my form in.... Even now years on, I am so grateful. Not only did I get £4000 back but 2 weeks later I got another £4000 back & when I contacted the bank to say I think you've made a mistake & paid twice.... They said it was the interest I would have accrued that they owed as well... 😮. At the time my car was in its last legs & I needed structural work done to my home.... The relief was palpable.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. We need Martin to investigate the supermarkets. ESPECIALLY TESCO. They have been price fixing and ripping off millions of people on daily basis. The CMA have said they can’t act as they already allowed tesco to buy bookers wholesalers. 4 years this has been ongoing. How is it cheaper to buy from tesco than tesco owned wholesaler that used to compete with tesco ?

I have (complex) PTSD, recurrent depression, cult survivor and lots of childhood trauma. Had 6 years of therapy and still struggle with my mental health. Martin Lewis' account of PTSD rings very true to me - so refreshing to see someone honestly talking about this stuff. Martin for PM!
Not enough. Tell Labour to put him in the House of Lords, then give him the ministerial brief. One condition, we need rottweiller Dominic Cummings at his side to take on the Civil Service. Without that threat, Martin has shown his vulnerabilty, he cares. He would be eaten alive by the Sir Humphries.
Martin really is a national treasure. He is the purest guy with the purest intentions and honestly, I trust him wholeheartedly. When I tell my parents "we should do xyz, I've weighed up the options and this is the best course" all I have to say is "Martin said we should do it this way", and that's it, they trust it, they trust me to handle it, and they trust it's in our best interest because it's come from Martin Lewis. Martin is now at a David Attenborough level of trust and respect. He is inherently trustworthy and has proven that daily.
Martin has the same ethics as my stepdad who taught me the same ethics and I'm grateful for my stepdads raising and teaching. I pass the teaching on to my children and thankfully they have a choice to decide what to do everyday. 😊
Truly Martin is a truly great and honourable man. I know he never wants to go into politics but politicians should learn this level of integrity, honesty, holding individuals or companies account & most importantly thinking about what the everyday person is facing whether that’s the cost of living, special education in schools and the lack of funding in that area, living with disabilities all of these things that affect the vast majority of the public. This is what Martin campaign for not only the financial aspects. But be equal for society and raising the issues that impact us that the political parties are not addressing and haven’t been since austerity. So those who are thinking of going into politics or are in politics. Take note of why we admire what Martin’s done, and maybe take a leaf out of his book.
What a great interview and my respect for Martin Lewis just keeps growing. The comment of the 90 year old lady and the kettle sums up exactly why we should all care. The vulnerable and the old pay through the nose while the knowledgeable have the benefits.

Martin Lewis is a truly wonderful person. He is trusted. He figures out all the complicated stuff so that mere mortals like me can understand. He is a “god” of finance.
But his point is that he isn't a god. He's a man with good reading comprehension, a decent grasp at maths and a lot of relevant work experience. Not everyone can do what he does but a lot of people can if they put their mind to it. If it isn't your thing that's okay but talk to your friends who have these same qualities and they can help direct you. I've become this "helper friend" for my friends, family and coworkers. He's become this helper friend for the entire UK. We can all help each other with our own special skills and interests. If finance isn't your thing then you have other gifts and knowledge you can share with those around you. Pay it forward in whatever way you can.
I reckon this fella has had time option to sell out, to be quiet. I'm sure they want him silenced but by the looks and sound of it, he is still honest and giving good advice. Fair play to him
What an amazing man and for being honest, humble and sharing your life with us. I did identify with some of what you said, and still challenged now . He has helped me think that maybe i could attempt to get over trauma and not being able to go out on my own .
I’ve been waiting for the full episode because I have loved Martin Lewis for years. I first heard him on The Jeremy Vine Show as a regular guest and just gelled with him, I can’t explain why nor does it matter. I don’t always follow his advice because it doesn’t always fit my circumstances but he has helped me out of some scraps to which I am very thankful. Due to my failure to acknowledge the red flags presented to me by my now ex I am paying off debt through a charity. I wouldn’t have even known that was possible if I hadn’t of heard it from Martin. I still have a way to go but it gave me hope when I had none.
I love how candid and empathetic he was in this interview. Very relatable and when he was reflecting on worrying about his behaviour towards others in the past etc it really resonated with me, I often feel anxious about things like that. Never heard anyone put it so well. This interview is further proof that he is a very sound person - I admire him even more now 🙌👏 Thank you HP
Martin is so right about trust. It means everything, and shortcuts should never be considered when building a business. many people rave about Alan Sugar and Alan himself bigs himself up about his early business with AMSTRAD, the reality is that many people dont like how he got there, not because he is rich but because he peddled some absolute junk products under the AMSTRAD brand. As a product designer my pride alone wouldnt let me design poor quality products so I for one beleive in the trust that must be at the forefront of every business.
Absolutely fantastic interview. My respect for Mr Lewis only grows the more I learn about him. Sound principles are priceless, and Martin is rife with them.
Guilty about feeling happy. I’ve been there. I stayed there for over a decade. I felt I had no right, no business being happy or wanting to smile. I checked myself every time. That really resonated.
Never feel guilty about being happy. I can understand that feeling I once was there myself. Life is so short, we all deserve to feel happiness at some points of our life and when we do. We know we have worked to get there. Hope your still happy
What a formidable human you are Martin. As someone working in finance, Martin inspires me to help friends and family understand the complexities of personal finance. So satisfying to see others be financially better off
at risk of sounding over dramatic, I struggle to think of anyone who has had a bigger impact in my financial life than Martin Lewis... when I was 16 we were shown his video explaining student loans, and how they arent traditional loans, and should be feared a lot less. That video changed my way of thinking, and was the deciding factor for me deciding to go to uni. When I got to uni, his money saving tips and bank switching advice helped me make enough to afford the cost of living, and now, Martins advice on savings accounts v ISA v premium bonds has helped me make decisions that have resulted in THOUSANDS in interest payments and growth. I am now almost in a position to put a deposit on a starter home. His friendly and accessible aproach to finances gave me the confidence to educate myself even further, and I now consider myself to be quite financially literate. I look forward optimistically to my future and its all thanks to Martin Lewis. Huge respect.
What an exceptional man. This was extremely moving, Martin is a credit to himself. He stands as testament to how we should overcome adversity and empower others around us, not for ulterior motives but because it is simply the right thing to do.
Common decency is the epitome of high performance. Thank you, Martin Lewis, for being an accountable member of society by being another passionate fighter for human decency. I'm a teacher. Schools are falling apart. Many teachers take on second jobs/ income streams in the UK to survive. I'm a single parent & can't afford to give much, but I always give as much as I can. I am very lucky that instead of having to sell second-hand items, I am able to give them away. That gives me endless happiness. I am lucky that every year, I can afford to take my son & I off for a one week static caravan holiday in Northumberland. I am lucky that if my class needs a resource to learn, if it's under £5 out of my monthly pay, I can afford to buy the resource that helps to educate our future. I am also fallible & unkind to myself. I eat to cope with my emotions. Healthy food is too bloody expensive at the moment, so I eat cheap shit food. I love making my own bread. I cook from scratch, but I also consume too much highly addictive ultra processed foods - how on earth is selling that shit legal... Grief - at any age for any reason is a tough gig. The guilt for feeling happy can be overwhelming but is an essential part of processing your grief. I wonder if that guilt is felt more acutely by decent people?
Agree 💯% about trust, it always cracks me up when I hear politicians say we have to regain the trust of the voters, thereby intimating that at some point in the past voters trusted politicians 🤔. IMHO trust along with respect have to be earned. Martin Lewis should be the UK prime minister.
Damien and Jake I'm sure you were blown away as much as myself and your audience. What a straight shooter, honest. Wouldn't be great if the government was more influenced. One of your best interviews thank you!!
Absolutely love Martin. He’s an ethical man. He is exposing how the world is built on exploitation. But he’s taking on some powerful forces so I fear for him also. Can you imagine how different our country and our people would be if we had someone like Martin as our prime minister? Or even Martin himself!!
On being successful, my careers advisor in school always told the story of the fisherman who lived on a beach... he meets a rich american tourist one day and the tourist asks him what his typical days like... the fisherman says: I wake up, I fish until I've caught enough to eat, usually about noon and then I spend the rest of my day with my kids, I go for a walk, read a book and then get ready for the next day... the tourist says: well... if you fished the whole day, caught enough fish to sell, make enough mony eventually to buy your own boat... then you can catch more fish, buy another boat and after 30 years you could sell the company and retire... then you could get up in the morning, catch enough fish to eat, play with your kids, go for a walk, read a book and take it easy... people have a habit of paying for what they already have, try not to pay what you cant afford
@@Pheasant17centhat's the moral of the story. A lot of people are going down this route which is also very sad and don't even try to have kids until they are well in their 30's. Aside from the fertility risk you also end up raising kids when your knackered yourself and they don't get the energy and interaction they crave at a young age.

He’s a household name and a true leader of the people. At 28, he’s inspired me - and being amongst a generation that feel lost of hope - I truly want to give back in a way that he does, for the individual. I always say that nuance is lost in a world so focused on the conformity. It’s the way education works and that is also, flawed. We truly need to celebrate the individual. We were born this way!
What a brilliant conversation. I overcame my shyness and anxiety by becoming a nightclub DJ. And then I also became involved with sales. I think it worked.

Great podcast/interview. And Martin’s work and relentless campaigning are an outstanding service to the people and society, but hearing of his personal struggles gives an almost equally important insight into struggles, hard work and perseverance, and the lessons we all can draw from it. Inspiring.

I just cried listening to Martin talk with such Sincerity is regarding his ethics and attitude - if only more had his Integrity (first time listener to him)
Martins honesty is what makes him a leader. He is not perfect and no god but he certainly does his best for his followers. He is very human with human frailties and that’s why people can relate to him and trust him Such a shocking act by that rabbi to spotlight a boys tragedy and what amazing compassion of Martin to do the right thing I wonder what our world would be like if he was prime minister ?
What a brilliant, beautiful, inspiring listen that was. I had no idea about Martin and to hear him speak so frankly like this, baring his soul like he did, was nothing short of an honour to hear. Thank you, Martin, for sharing this and thank you, guys for a wonderful podcast. New subscriber here. ❤
His ability to explain complex financial information in a simple way has helped me save and reclaim £1000s over the years Thank you Martin Money saving expert 🙏
The power of critical thinking… instead of following trends and other books or analytics to simply comply with trend analysis and support your argument which is what most management structures do today.
Channels that say "the bigger the subscriber count, the bigger the guests" (or something to that effect) don't have me hitting the buttons. I find it disrespectful to the guests you've had previously and plays into toxic celebrity culture which is messing up my generation. A great episode with a great guest today but let's not put individuals on an unnecessary pedestal. I know I'm just one person so me not subscribing is no drama, but perhaps others feel a similar way.
What I would like martin to look into is the fact that all utility bills and fuel costs these companies make extortionate amounts of profit, yet with upgrades needed to the networks whos paying for it us our bills will go up to pay for it . Surely that's where these profits should go .
Martin YOU MOVED ME. Thank you from every person who has been unable to say that to you. I felt your joy at the boy who tied his shoe laces. Your landlord has to take you to court and it can take over six months which gives you time to make plans. The shelter website has details and could support you can apply for council housing. CAB are also very good. Namaste 🙏
You'll look back one day in the near future and be so happy and proud. Also your kid needs you more than they need any wealth. ❤
Yet he votes conservative
Go figure.
I looked that up. One article said he was Lib Dem until 24, now a floating voter.
He was rejected from House of Lords as a cross bench peer.
wake up! he's in it for the money.

Martin is not alone in this constant battle with greedy rip-off companies.
wow ..not every1 is like that ....sure he will do well people just want honesty these days
I as a consumer respect decency and value. I don’t think it’s too much to ask. Your son deserves success but unfortunately being decent doesn’t always work. We live in a world of corruption and evil.
That is a good man, a good human being, trust worthy, best of luck for the future
Advice like his should be taught from a young age in schools. He does more for the people than any prime minister we have had.
Only when politicians stop burning/banning kids books such as Roald Dahl's works and start educating themselves will things change or else our kids will continue to receive sub par education
You think the government wants to give this information to kids at school?
People need to learn schools are there to train kids to run on the hamster wheel.
I would say it is almost on purpose that it isn't. Imagine what happens to the markets if everyone is very financially savvy?

Some years ago I remember Martin Lewis saying "don't trust the banks, treat them like the enemy ". I have always followed his advice and it has stood me in good stead. Also I claimed four thousand pounds mis sold PPI back from the bank from following his advice.
I would just like to say thank you to Martin.

Martin's free information has honestly saved myself thousands of pounds over the years. A national treasure which won't be recognised until he stops.
I moved to the UK in 2019 as a young adult who had never had a full time job, never saved money, never invested, didn't know a thing about how UK tax or insurance worked. Thanks to MSE, I learnt everything. Now almost 5 years on, I have ISA's, savings, pensions etc. I don't think I would be in this comfortable position if it wasn't for his content.

@@chrispitchforth621he would never last in politics. Even labour wouldn't want him near the place. The whole place is so insanely corrupt and geared towards protecting the 1% it's unbelievable.

Imagine how great the UK could be with a like minded group of people in charge. We would be unstoppable.
Martin, listening to you brought me to tears. To know that there is someone who has a conscience and being in a position as you are, to have such profound understanding of how the other half live and battle problems in their lives. Yes, maybe you are God to some of us 😢 ❤
Hope Martin Lewis lives a long healthy life. Keep fighting, we need you.
Thank you! I came here to say this myself!
Indeed - it's completely rigged, like so many things including our complete political system.
They’re all at it, I’ve gone from Morrison’s to Tescos because Morrisons is a lot dearer than Tesco’s. Tesco’s is the cheapest at the moment for me.

One hell of a good man imagine if 50% of the worlds politicians were like this what a great world we would have to live in .
Genuinely in tears hearing the story about the templates being sent to banks. Heartbreaking how we take advantage of the vulnerable.
I used Martin's template, ended up getting near £6000 from the Halifax! Thanks Martin.
Give that man a knighthood. He is the epitome of honour, honesty, integrity, kindness and devotion to care of the less fortunate. Big hugsxxx.
They already did. He was granted an OBE in 2014 and a CBE in 2022 👍
If every community had a person like Martin Lewis the world would be a better place. You don’t need to be perfect, simply try your very best.
@rickybojangles162
I wouldn’t trust or respect David Attenborough any more: he’s one of the main props of the “global warming” scam………
Martin has the same ethics as my stepdad who taught me the same ethics and I'm grateful for my stepdads raising and teaching. I pass the teaching on to my children and thankfully they have a choice to decide what to do everyday. 😊
It takes a great man to take a chance and invest in someone else's children. Great to know his legacy will pass on to multiple generations.
This guy does what our politicians never will - cares about injustice
Oh they do care about injustice! Just listening to how they bleat about how unfairly the are being treated!

Genuine, VERY genuine. So refreshing in this day and age.
Yes I did that too when I had debt left by my late son. I am now debt free.
"No one is interested in money stuff, they're interested in their money stuff!" So true!
A man of substance and morals. I took allot from this. Full Respect Brother 👏
@MsBarb1968
Yes; being happy helps us to support those around us who are struggling.

What a formidable human you are Martin. As someone working in finance, Martin inspires me to help friends and family understand the complexities of personal finance. So satisfying to see others be financially better off
Thank you YT algorithm for offering me this interview.
Really good.
at risk of sounding over dramatic, I struggle to think of anyone who has had a bigger impact in my financial life than Martin Lewis... when I was 16 we were shown his video explaining student loans, and how they arent traditional loans, and should be feared a lot less.

Love this, thanks for sharing 💙
Wouldn’t his kids be grown up after 30 years ?
Beautiful story. Sums it all up.

I wholeheartedly agree, a great way of wording it!
