Sky and the Britisch media used to lap up everything Adrian Newey did and said. Until this podcast (the full version).......For me this falls into the same category as not being present on the post-race press conference. Sky has been poison over the last 3 years.
This is why I want Max to win. And win way more championships in the future because he is truly one of a kind and deserves the accolades to support it. Not that he needs it, he just deserves a lot more. On his 200th race, Max said to the media when asked about it, he said "I won't race another 200" and said it with so much conviction. Tying back to what Newey said about him being a deep thinker, philosophical and self-assured, I think he really does mean it.
Apparently, Max said that he doesn't quite feel a desire to beat the shared Schumacher/Hamilton record of 7 WDCs. That seems to align with a disinterest for race stats. Given that the string of Schumacher wins made me loose interest in F1, and the Hamilton string kept me away (in the intervening years I still had very little interest) it might be a good thing to have a driver at the very top of the proverbial food chain that does *NOT* want to achieve a total of 5 more.
Alex is very good with words. He explains Max's driving style so everyone can understand. I hope he stays in the sport long after he retires. Alex is a treasure of a human.
It reminds me Eddie Van Halen. When he first emerged VH were an opening act. The buzz around Eddie was great. His sound was blowing everyone’s minds. World class guitar player would try his guitar rig and all they could get out of it was wildly out of control feedback.
Not often that I comment, but this was a fascinating insight from both Alex and Adrian, with Alex being both honest and vulnerable about his time at Red Bull. Good to see Adrian doing interviews as he doesn't do many.
Been following and watching F1 since the late 70s when Mario Andretti won the WDC. I stopped watching after Senna got killed. What brought me back to F1 was Max. My friends were telling me about this new sensational driver. Since I first saw Max I knew he was something special. I've been watching him since. I do believe Max is a once in a lifetime driver. I compare his ability and aggressiveness with the great Senna. I would of loved to see Max race with the greats from the "Turbo Era". Of the modern day drivers I believe Max is the only driver that could of competed with them. His drive in Brazil is one of the greatest I have ever seen. Go Max, #4 🏆 incoming.
It's a shame you stopped right after Senna died, otherwise you would know that Michael was just as much of a titan if not more. I think you missed out on some legendary seasons. Everyone who watched Michael race, sees parallels between him and Max. Their driving style is also similar. Max drives like a Michael who tailored his driving style around hyper sensitive Pirellis. Michael was probably the only driver that preferred even more oversteer / front end than Max.
You wrote 'Doesn’t really show it except on the track' then i read that and think. I've seen this side several times but don't you think it's kinda logical that hostile media that dislikes Max is not interested in showing that side of Max? Same for social media if it's pro Lando or pro Hamilton do you think it's shows the kind side of Max? I am not surprised though if i would judge Hamilton/Lando only by consume Dutch media coverage of them i would dislike both as well. Once you don't trust a person or dislike him you will judge through a negative filter and the same if it's your hero you will filter that through positivity.. You can tell that Albon sympathises with Checo. Its interesting to note that at the start of each season Checo is really competitive, as they adjust the car for Max through each season, Checo gets progressively worse. They need to identify who the drivers are that also love a really sharp setup for the 2nd seat at Red Bull. Is that how Lawson likes his car set up?
ive thought this as well. even if you have a higher caliber driver, a less refined driver who can handle oversteer on the higher spectrum would be preferable
They change the Max's car his liking, but leave Checo's car alone. Meanwhile because the car starts to feel more natural to Max, he is starting to go even faster, while Checo stays at the same pace, so only relative to Max Check is going slower. Alex, Gasly and Checo are not bad drivers, but like Newey told here they need all of their attention on driving the car and that is why their performance also varies much more per race. Alex is now driving with Williams and if he scores points they celebrate that as if they just won the world championship. With Red Bull they expect that you finish relative close to your teammate. But while Max won Brazil, Checo only finished P11 with both vcarb cars in front of him. There are two reasons why Chech still has a seat at Red Bull, first they don't have a replacement driver that guarantee will do better than Perez. Max just crushes his teammates. Another reason is that Perez is very popular in Latin America and the Red Bull Energy company is selling a lot of cans in those reasons. In 2023 there was only a 27 million price money difference with the constructors between P1 and P4. In 2023 I attended a seminar where a former Red Bull marketing told they audience that since Perez joined Red Bull, sales in Latin America tripled over night. Unlike that other teams in Formula 1A, Red Bull is the only one not selling cars (at least not at a primary product) and they are just the party team trying to win the drivers championship because the press (and fans) are more interested in the drivers than the teams. Of course Horner and Marko would love to win both championships.
@@2Fast4Mellow 'They' is not Adrian Newey otherwise it would be 'him or he' Both sides of the garage have their own people setting the car up. And while Max side continues to make it more pointy more sensitive faster but more dangerous to drive the other side cannot give the same setup if they try it no longer suits their style and they fail. Realize also that no f1 driver will admit another driver is better! That will never happen as that would create doubt in their current team or future teams they can become the next champion thus hurting their careers.
They don't really need to do that. There are two obvious drivers who also like such a car, and RBR already considered both and rejected them. The first one is Ricciardo who wanted to come back and was unceremoniously dropped in favour of letting Perez keep failing for the remainder of the season. The other one is Hulkenberg who was considered alongside Perez in 2020 to replace Albon. Now Hulkenberg not only likes that style of car, but actually has a far more similar driving style to Verstappen than a lot of other drivers. From what I could gather back then, there seem to have been doubts about his consistency and maybe also the fact that he was favoured by Verstappen. RBR created this mess themselves and now they are inheriting a well deserved loss in the WCC, infighting and losing Newey.
The high sensitivity controller playing video games is a great analogy that Alex used to explain Max’s driving preference. That helped me to understand things better between what Max and others are like
I think that is a little unfair, when you hear Lando on the radio he is very calm despite what is going on around him. I believe his problem is he overthinks and that is where he makes his own problems. If he can sort his head out and he has the car he can be world champion as he has the talent, he just doesn’t have the confidence in himself right now. Also his team need to make the right decisions as they are getting it wrong far too many times.
@@ChrisA-y4k it’s just the endless mistakes, he’s obviously not at the same capacity as the named drivers. He has speed and pace. Lots of it. But at that speed, I think he must lack that capacity. Singapore a prime example. Could barely keep it on the track in the lead. Meanwhile Max posts fastest lap after fastest lap, without mistake, in the pouring rain. 🤷♂
They are if you’re paranoid about it, but if you listen to what they say, there’s no bias any different to the biased Dutch media 100% in favour of Max and dead against anyone else. His fans are the same.
10:47 "no spare capacity left", I think that's an insightful comment by Newey and that's probably the reason why Yuki Tsunoda will never get that RBR seat.
Very good remark. Verstappen reminds me of Schumacher in that regard. So calm on the radio, like he's sitting on a sofa. Driving is automatic to him, so he's got massive overhead to think about other things, strategy, watching the giant screens...
Yes Newey. I too would be very sensitive and would almost lose it after the guy that's fighting for the title against me tried to unlive me lol that crash was insanity
Some people dont understand what Albon means when he talks about the car. To be fast in F1 your car can either have a high potential speed by being rather "sensitive and precise" but also is rather risky and takes alot of skill for drivers to properly handle. Or you can have a car that is not quite that intense but is better to handle for the drivers, leading to more consistent and better speed output.
Max has pure racing pedigree, everybody’s hating on Jos Verstappen, but I’m from the same region and they’re just typical blue collar people. Jos was quite fast but without proper guidance. He managed to drive in F1 for many years, which is impressive for a Dutch driver. He did some stupid things but he’s actually a nice guy. When Max made clear racing was all he wanted, Jos pushed him to be the best he can be. Nothing wrong with that, they don’t have Stroll money, Jos invested a considerable amount of his net worth into Max’ career, he wanted results for that. I don’t think Max blames him for anything, they’re just moving up in life. Only downside of Max’ talent and pedigree is that he’s destroying beautiful careers like Riciardo’s, Gassly’s, Albon’s and Checo’s.
Please bring Max over for an interview, the British press owes that to him. I would even suggest bringing Hamilton over on a separate episode. That way both drivers get a chance to share their story and viewers get to see both points of view!
Big respect for Alex to explain this from a driver / teammate point of view. This explanation also gives a full meaning to my quote "Mercedes gave a winning racing car to Hamilton and Max gives a winning racing car to Red Bull" Nuance !
The f1 commentators could learn a lesson from this. Absolutely pathetic how they disrespect Max and how biased they are towards uk drivers. Makes it hard to watch.
Great video. Thanks for that. I always had the most respect for Albon, especially what he has done for Williams, and it's such a good talk to see all this points. What i gain more here, from Newey, is that philosophical side of Max we never see in cameras, but makes so much sense. I can't believe how robust he is at his age (mentally speaking). What a great person first and foremost❤
do an interview with Max. He earned it. Al those side drivers and engineers and managers and whatever they are. Just interview Max like you did with these others. That will boost your views.
Albon is still one of my favorite persons on the grid...he has not changed, and let the bull time get to him Seeing him succeed at williams is amazing..he is doing amazing with the car he has!
What Newey said about Max having spare capacity, that is something that only the truly great posses. The very best don't have to think about driving fast, they just do, and instead use their brain capacity to think of everything else. That's why Norris had no chance this year. Sure he has pace, but it's clear it took him 100% of his brain power to do that kind of pace. Not to mention will joseph yapping into Norris who has no spare capacity to think.
What Alex Albon described is precisely building the car around Max. He said that Max likes his car to have a sharp front end and that do it sharper and sharper as the season goes on. The driver next to Max has to adapt to that sharper end car that is being designed in that way because of Max. So that car is being designed for the likes of Max.
Alex Albon is not just a great racing driver but a truly nice, down to earth human being - his extremely well articulated explanation about a "sharp nosed car" goes a LONG way to explaining why Checo is having such a DEVIL of a time and I think that MANY of the drivers on the grid would have similar challenges with driving the second R B car.
Youre right, but a lot thats been said here is relevant now. Also the part where Adrian speaks about mental capacity - Norris can set a quick quali lap, drive the car reasonably well, but he does not seem to have the same mental capacity as Max (leftover) so he gets into mistakes, tangles and seems to burst under pressure
When it comes to processing power, do keep in mind that experience plays a huge role as well. And this means that Max at his young age is even more impressive than veterans like Schumacher, Alonso and Hamilton.
Max is the GOAT. Even now that the RB is no longer the fastest car and probably only the 3d or 4th fastest on the grid (after the McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari) Max still is leading in the WDC with a big lead, and 7 wins this season, and on a slippery track with new asphalt in the rain in Brazil, where *everybody* was crawling and sliding off, Max gave a faultless demonstration, going from P17 to P2 before the safety car came out, raking up 17(!) fastest laps, and being more than 1.2 seconds faster than anybody else (including "rainmaster" Hamilton, Alonso, LeClerck and Norris... )
It's probably just like jet fighters. In order to get the best maneuverability the plane has to be inherently unstable. In a jet fighter keeping it within the borders there are the avionics, in the RB car there's Max.
Stroll is the one that most obviously lacks that part, when all he has to do is drive he's a capable midfield driver and even good in the rain. Get him extra tasks and it gets problematic quickly.
@@DenUitvreter I don't think he was talking about Stroll because he was specifically talking about people that can actually drive the car well, but cap out their mental capacity at that point. Stroll can't even control the car to begin with.
@@worstenbroodje6832 Yes he can. It's not because he can't drive fast Stroll isn't worthy of F1. He's pretty quick sometimes and has been really good in the rain. It's when he hast to manage things, push buttons, deal with other cars when he gets overloaded.
Adrian - "you can see the ones that havnt got much capacity nothing left over..." Internally he knows he's got both extreme ends of the spectrum when he gets to AMR. A Prize Stud Stallion and an absolute Donkey...
It's a genuine challenge, no doubt about it. Newey's cars have the reputation for being SO difficult to fully exploit, to take to their full limits. The challenge at Aston-Martin for Newey is, how to adequately dumb a Newey chassis down for the Boss's son while preserving the speed & the handling you need to be a true contender. Truly, you're looking at a black art but if anyone can do it, it's probably Newey.
To paraphrase Alex, fundamentally, it starts off as individual set up. But then for team mate to remain competitive, that driver must drive like Max or better. So they end up trying to compete with similar set up as Max, then get into trouble. The teammate needs to be someone with unshakable self belief to continue in their own style and still outqualify Max. Let's see how Lawson does. Although Marko's instructions are clear to not jeopardise Max's WDC campaign, Lawson doesn't come across as someone who will kowtow beyond a point. Especially, if the car is supportive. FIA should ban team orders rather than go after drivers for uttering cuss words. Let the drivers fight it out. Makes for better viewership, wider competition and perhaps teams will focus on putting two good cars on track every race.
very nice podcast, very well done, congratulations to you all and to the F1 Stars.....but Albon in the reality said that the car was (in fact) devolped around Max and setted carefully for him, which is fine....i don't even care....but Albon (Gasly...and Checo) they didn't have a chance to ask car modifications to please their driving style
Nearly all F1 drivers cry like little babies when they're talking on the radio to their engineer. To hear someone say that any of them are mature, or philosophical, does not fit with what they reveal about themselves when they use the radio.
I think the british attitude would expect bias when watching foreign media and wouldn’t be bothered by it, where as there seems to be a big thing about sky at Adrian mentioned
The honey badger was showing up elbows, but they didn't like that,...they prefer watered down competitors like...poor guy can't hold his lead to the...
I think Newey is bang on with most things, but it would be nice if Max once would have contrition. He never ever admits fault. Now that could be read as self-assurance, but its also certainly arrogant.
What is so bad about not having the F1 King in England? There are hundreds of other countries in the world that suffer the same unbearable, intolerable injustice.

He will win 2 more titles in the next two years, 6 overall and retire
@@marko6489
He might as well go for 7 then if he wins the next two.
Would be quite spicy to have three 7x champions.
Albon's a good guy: honest, respectful, open.
perfect timing after such a legendary race, really hope he joins the podcast for an episode one day
Alex had that great analogy with mouse sensitivity thats such an accurate way to explain that paradigm.
Alex is very good with words. He explains Max's driving style so everyone can understand. I hope he stays in the sport long after he retires. Alex is a treasure of a human.
Max mentality is to never give up and always try to improve .
It reminds me Eddie Van Halen. When he first emerged VH were an opening act. The buzz around Eddie was great. His sound was blowing everyone’s minds. World class guitar player would try his guitar rig and all they could get out of it was wildly out of control feedback.
@stysner4580 imagine how cool an EVH striped livery would look on Max’s car
@stysner4580 Wrong,he wasnt Dutch but Indonesian
@stysner4580 youre right.I was wrong.Read another version of his descent.Probably the wrong one.He was half Indonesian/half Dutch.
Heard more from Adrian here than ever. Surprised at his assessment that Max is a deep thinker. Doesn’t really show it except on the track! Enjoyed..
It's .... human and hard to not have either positive or negatve bias.
@@randar1969that's exactly it...
Sky keeps regurgitating interviews with Lewis, Lando and Russel before and after F1 broadcasts....
While EVERYTHING they send out from the other drivers has some kind of negative agenda behind it, throwbacks to accidents, mistakes or weird comments...it's always negative.
No wonder the Brits are all so fucking racist and hateful towards foreign drivers... they're brainwashed by their horribly biased media.

Very confused at that statement I mean what do you mean he doesn't show it off track? Do you know him in his personal life?
Adrian Newey describing Max's processing power sounds very much like Michael Schumacher.
Yup, and Alonso

That’s not what was meant with processing power.
They basically talked about race IQ / mental space capacity during a race
I remember both interviews, thanks for merging together multiples by topic. Goes a long way!
Thanks for this compilation. More people get to watch and understand Max through people who observe Max as a driver and as a person.
What a coincidence that this was uploaded two days after Max's champions drive at Sao Paulo from P17 to P1 😂❤😊
This is old podcast... Actually this is just short clip
Old footage.
This podcast is a very interesting watch. I highly recommend watching it in full.
Because people who haven’t yet realised the greatness of Max, are starting to realise it now…🤷🏻♂️
@@nilsthart4154 That's very late then, he's already driving for 10 years
You can tell that Albon sympathises with Checo.
No. There was one other driver with this technique: Michael Schumacher.
How can nobody mention Albon talks EXACTLY like Brian Cox 😂
Word 🙏
The high sensitivity controller playing video games is a great analogy that Alex used to explain Max’s driving preference. That helped me to understand things better between what Max and others are like
“I won’t name drivers because that would be unfair”. I’ll help you Adrian. Lando Norris is a prime example.
Never seen any of your TH-cam stuff before but this was very interesting, I'll be keeping an eye on your channel from now on.
Jake should be hosting an f1 show on tv again, the current lot are rubbish and most are quite biased towards drivers from the uk
Of course lets be honest Checo has been around for quiet a long time and has had plenty of highlights some amazing ones actually.
Goed gezegd.
Carlos Sainz is one of the best strategists behind the wheel.
Doesn't make him a Champ like Max.
I've heard many times, that the success of the best drivers are the very pointy car, thanks to Alex now I sort of have a clue of what does means.
Please bring Max over for an interview, the British press owes that to him.
I would even suggest bringing Hamilton over on a separate episode.
That way both drivers get a chance to share their story and viewers get to see both points of view!
They won't because they are still ignoring it.
Big respect for Alex to explain this from a driver / teammate point of view. This explanation also gives a full meaning to my quote "Mercedes gave a winning racing car to Hamilton and Max gives a winning racing car to Red Bull" Nuance !
10:37 he didnt wanna name Lance Stroll lol
What a honest deep interview with Alex, great to watch something that goes futher than the normal pr BS .
Thank you. Racing insights by Newey are always worth hearing and considering.
do an interview with Max. He earned it. Al those side drivers and engineers and managers and whatever they are. Just interview Max like you did with these others. That will boost your views.
Albon is still one of my favorite persons on the grid...he has not changed, and let the bull time get to him
Seeing him succeed at williams is amazing..he is doing amazing with the car he has!
10:38 Adrian saying that and is now going to Aston with Stroll
Appreciate the honesty well done
its a clear explanation of what is happening for those not in so much in the know, thanks :)
What a nice and well rounded chap and in fully endorse roelgralike's comment.
wasn't Albon's interview posted before?
Albon is honnest, and points out precise how the cars a basic the same, only the set up is personal.
Respect Alex! You say what it is to be Verstappen's teammate, without ego!
Albon is the most likable driver on the grid ever since be entered F1.
when was this interview and why was it reuploaded this week?
I've seen it a while ago... well I'm off..
When u are good .. u are good ! .... Max is phenomenal !
OMG, this explanation is on point!
No, this an older interview so they cannot REACT to Max`s dominance in Brasil, how you want to make this to look.
I’ve seen both these interviews but its a good reminder to max’s haters
@@afroheaddudeful yes, they dug out some stuff to make some more content.
Great conversation! Thank you.
When it comes to processing power, do keep in mind that experience plays a huge role as well. And this means that Max at his young age is even more impressive than veterans like Schumacher, Alonso and Hamilton.
Max is the GOAT. Even now that the RB is no longer the fastest car and probably only the 3d or 4th fastest on the grid (after the McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari) Max still is leading in the WDC with a big lead, and 7 wins this season, and on a slippery track with new asphalt in the rain in Brazil, where *everybody* was crawling and sliding off, Max gave a faultless demonstration, going from P17 to P2 before the safety car came out, raking up 17(!) fastest laps, and being more than 1.2 seconds faster than anybody else (including "rainmaster" Hamilton, Alonso, LeClerck and Norris... )
Love listening to Adrian newey talking about max
Alex Albon =. A gentleman
is this a reupload? I feel like I have seen this before
Same as Dan Ricciardo. They LOVE a tight as front end. They both , steer by the rears.
Like all REAL legends. Makes you think.....!
Is this a re-upload?
It's probably just like jet fighters. In order to get the best maneuverability the plane has to be inherently unstable. In a jet fighter keeping it within the borders there are the avionics, in the RB car there's Max.
just in time.
a talent like max or hamilton need a driver like sergio or bottas..matured,talented,grateful and silent rear gunner
Max has never needed a rear gunner, whereas Hamilton is useless without one!
Nice comparison to mouse on high speed. Only Max can control that.
This interview is months old why re upload like it just came out lol
Older, but good timing.
What nobody talks about...
The simpfle fact behind all this ist just that he practiced more in the past :)
Russel has alot od capacity left over. Norrisis maxed out
Stroll is the one that most obviously lacks that part, when all he has to do is drive he's a capable midfield driver and even good in the rain.
Albon speaks so articulately
It is perfectly fine to be arrogant if you are very good at something PERIOD
1 Senna, 1 Max, 1 Lewis, etc. the cream rises to the top, always. there are good drivers, and there are masters.
Looks like a compilation of previous episodes.
I know exactly what Albon means, Max is playing on hardcore more all the time and he thrives on it
Amazing insight from Albon
Nearly all F1 drivers cry like little babies when they're talking on the radio to their engineer.
To hear someone say that any of them are mature, or philosophical, does not fit with what they reveal about themselves when they use the radio.
Well try being philosophical when driving at those speeds 😂
"as ist goes sharper and sharper, he goes faster and faster"
I wonder why 2021 affected Mercedes and didn't really affect red bull. I can't possibly imagine why that could be...
why in the world is there an app. even the people who made the app don't use the app.
Nothing left over: Norris. Fast as hell around a track, no extra capacity on race day.
I think the british attitude would expect bias when watching foreign media and wouldn’t be bothered by it, where as there seems to be a big thing about sky at Adrian mentioned
Alex Albon, Class Act!
Albon will make a fine broadcaster
The honey badger was showing up elbows, but they didn't like that,...they prefer watered down competitors like...poor guy can't hold his lead to the...
LOL, Max outclassed him in the last year together on about every level. Ricardo KNEW he had it coming against Max. And that's why he left.
I think Newey is bang on with most things, but it would be nice if Max once would have contrition. He never ever admits fault. Now that could be read as self-assurance, but its also certainly arrogant.
Recycled intervieuws, but always nice to hear the explanations.
What is so bad about not having the F1 King in England? There are hundreds of other countries in the world that suffer the same unbearable, intolerable injustice.
