  • The REAL Reason Your House is Always Messy!!! In this video, I'll be discussing some of the bad habits that keep your house messy and disorganized. We all have those days where we don't feel like cleaning up, but when these bad habits become a regular occurrence, it can lead to a cluttered and chaotic living space I'll be covering everything from leaving dishes in the sink, to letting clothes pile up on the floor, to not putting things back where they belong. These seemingly small habits can have a big impact on the cleanliness and organization of your home. But in this video, I will also be providing tips and tricks on how to break these bad habits and create a more tidy and functional living space!!

We have a small desk top shredder and we shred all junk mail immediately and also personal papers that are no longer needed and then recycle it. I also put a stamp and return address on any bills. I like acronyms too! OHIO rule, Only Handle It Once. Thanks for another excellent video!

Great tips. I’ve saved this in my organising folder so that I can watch it again.
In the UK our post comes through the letter box at the front door, so it’s quite easy to deal with.

You are my absolute favorite TH-camr! I love your common sense tips. Always well thought out and shared with enthusiasm! I love the reminder to appreciate the space you currently have. The baskets for papers ... hangers ... clothes were they are actually dropped ... Just makes sense! Thank you!

We're about to embark on our 27th move in 21 years of marriage, and I'm so appreciating listening to your videos while I pack. My donate pile is getting nice and big!! 🙌🏻 I literally want to light a match every time we move, but my husband doesn't want me to downsize, or even get rid of clothes with holes if he loved them ever. Any advice about that?! Right now his biggest "problem" is our first aid... He was a nurse, and now a Resident doctor, and we literally can't fit all our first aid stuff into one large tote. I'm just hoping he doesn't find out that I've thrown some away lol!!

I use sticky notes also. I keep daily “To Dos” on the front of a kitchen cabinet and remove them as I complete them. If you don’t need them as visible, you could keep them on the inside of a cabinet door.

I hate paper clutter also! I get the mail and deal with it ASAP! I learned that a a young age....I sadly have no kids so no trash left around and I know some adult friends leave wrappers everywhere. Yikes! Not in my home And I make sure my sink is clean all dishes washed before bed BUT its easy for me living alone. I love your tips and tricks and I admire how clean your home is with your beautiful family!

My suggestion is only handle things once that I learned over 20 years ago
    The game changer
As soon as you come home take everything out from your car and put it away immediately ( it takes only about 7 min)
Before you leave a room clean it ( after I eat I put my dishes in the dishwasher , wipe the counters etc )
Kitchen sink should never have anything ..wash it immediately or put in the dishwasher
Quick Vacuum daily or 2x a week as this will force you to make sure things are picked up ( I have a stick vacuum so I know on high it the battery dies under 10 min so it’s a game to see how I can vacuum the whole house 4 bedrooms 3 bathrooms)
Paper shredder - I immediately shred or deal with my mail daily

Be careful with digitized stuff, cuz you never know when there will be a power outage or internet connection problems. I learned these lessons the hard way.

I already shared my “dirty dish bucket method” lol but what I also do is quickly eyeball the dish categories. Such as barely dirty (throw in dishwasher right away), greasy, cruddy, germy (cat dishes lol). Then buying that Dawn foam spray stuff was a game changer also. All except “germy” can get a squirt and a soak while I do other things. Later come back and rinse and load. After that there is so little to deal with that it’s easy to finally finish it off. Germy is the most complicated tho (kitty wet food, meat saucers, general raw meat handling, etc) but all that really requires is a squirt of bleach in the dishwater. It was also helpful for me years ago to learn about sanitizing. We had a flood in our town that affected the water supply for awhile and we all had to learn quick ways to safely clean our dishes etc. And idk. I just have been doing that ever since Bcuz I’m dealing with kitty germs every single day. Lol. So if it does pile up, then the whole shebang just gets the bleach in the water. Or if I’m behind and tired, the bleach squirt just goes in the dishwasher (my older model doesn’t have a sanitize feature). What I’ve found very helpful tho is to just have a pre planned thing like Plan A, Plan B and Plan C. That way, at least SOMETHING will get done one way or another.

We don't have a dishwasher. I try to wash most dishes right away. Sometimes dishes get left and are washed later, especially by certain people. 😊

What I am finding is that I organized under the cabinet shelves like under the bathroom sink or kitchen and its not working so I have to think of a better way. And reorganize..is that common?

I live alone, and I keep a basket for paperwork on one of my dining room chairs so it’s not cluttering up the table.
